easily customize the channel strip arrangement in the mixer

It would be real nice if we could move any channel strip or aux track in the mixer window anywhere we'd like within the mixer without first having to use 'Create arrange track for selected channel strip'. Its a huge 'groove killer'

In case you don't know... :)

Open an Environment window and choose the Mixer Layer.
You can freely move any channel strip.
Save it as a Screenset.
Manual...WTF is that!

I appreciate your response. However doesnt it seem to you that that approach is rather archaic and a 'groove killer'? Just about every other program allows you to simply grab the channel and move it..how can that be so difficult ...or actually how can the simplicity be so easy to overlook?

Well, for now, that's just the way it is in Logic.
Maybe a future version will be more "modern".

As far as a groove killer, I don't know.
To stop and move a channel strip "at all" is technically a groove killer. But, we do like to move them from time to time.

Since you have to open a window to move a channel strip anyway, I just hit one key to open my environment mixer screenset, move the channel strip and I'm done.

Again thanks.. I just tried that. I opened the environment window to the mixer layer and am trying to move my 'Drums' aux track to the left to place it next to the drum tracks..and it wont move at all. Is there a modifier Im not aware of?...Im sure its OE (operator error) but WTF? I hope I made myself clear originally. What I want to easily be able to do from the mixer window is configure my channel strips in a way that works for me when Im mixing. For example..I have 10 drum trax/channel strips on the left (channel 1-10) I bus all of them to a stereo aux track and then want to move that aux track to the left to be next to the drums.

Drag the channel strips by their name (underneath the channel strip). Or you can hold shift, and then you can click anywhere on the channel strip to drag it. If that doesn't work, first choose View > Protect Cabling/Positions, then try again.

like a NEVE,AUDIENT or SSL..
think off a combination between slate vcc and harrison mixbus

I really miss the ability to move a group of faders ( i.e. all drums) to a different position. If I want the drums to appear first I have to drag them up one at a time in the arrange page . This is just too tedious.

There is a Group function.

Yes there is, but it does not allow you to move 5 tracks at once to a different position in the arrange window.
The scenario occurs when I start mixing a song and I want to organize my tracks. Ie drums ( kick , snr hat, oh, toms, etc) may happen to be on tracks 20 to 29. When I want them to show up on the very left of the mixer window, I have to drag them to track 1 - 9 each individually. Even with group enabled Logic doesn't let me move a whole group of tracks up or down in the arrange window.
I either have to construct a new mixer in the environment or drag each track one by one to where I want it.

I misunderstood. I thought you were after synchronized fader movements - but it's about layout.
Yeah, I dare hazard a guess that if and when Logic X (or Logic 9.2.0) comes out, this feature (to freely move around Aux Channel Strips in the mixer) will be implemented, it is one of the most requested features, and it should be relatively easy to code.

I'ld like a vertical Piano Roll window...

Yeah, I'm with Jeff...not being able to quickly customize the main Mixer window is really a nightmare...
I do appreciate everybody else's suggestions about working in the Environment mixer window, but my color schemes
and visual organization isn't as cool, as well as the ability to cut or duplicate plugins from channel to channel.
I'm not the religious type, but I *really* pray that some update in the near future gives us the ability to simply move faders around to our heart's content...amen to putting our Aux Groups and Parallel Compression channels anywhere the heck we want.

Now that I've had a night to sleep on it...
I want to first off apologize about my whiney tone last night...
The very easy fix is that now that I've created all the groups and parallel comp aux's that I need, I simply created arrange tracks
of those and moved them around to my heart's content...guess what?: I have a beautiful looking mixer, all color-coded and
logically grouped by instrument family...and my MC Mix consoles now reflect the same clear layout.

phew - anyway, thanks (dear computer) for letting me rant...sorry if I've bored anyone to tears...and please forget that I sometimes
get cranky...

On with the music!
