10.0.7: Tuning settings bug [Fixed]

Mon May 19, 2014 3:18 pm

When using the scales in the "Fixed" drop-down menu in the project's Tuning settings, unloading an instrument plug-in or switching it for a another one will cause the scale to aurally set itself to "Equal Tempered".

In other words, you see "Fixed" as the active scale but hear "Equal Tempered". Clicking on the "Equal Tempered" radio button and then on the "Fixed" one brings back the expected sound.

Hey Jordi,
Thanks for this. I am a bit confused however. I am working on a project with tuning set to 432hz (-31.8 cents). Each time I stop play, the piano software instrument is resetting to 440hz (aurally, but stays at -31.8 in the settings). My only current workaround is to keep the tuning settings window open and click 'User' and then 'Equal Tempered' after every two minutes and then the piano resets to the appropriate tuning.

My question is twofold: 1.) Is there any workaround that is less tedious? (Remembering to click 'User' and then 'Equal Tempered' before each take has become....less than ideal) and 2.) If I download a piano player like Synthology's Ivory II or Pianoteq, will I still be having this problem?

Many thanks for your time.

I haven't tested this extensively so I'm not aware of other workarounds.

Project tuning settings do not affect third party instruments (although there are some people that are convinced they do affect them). Some of these instruments allow you to adjust tuning locally (on the instrument) so that could be the solution for you.

OH MY GOD

YES

HOLY s#!+

I have nightmares that this is going to not get fixed in the next update and then us dozen micro/macrotonalists will have to wait another year or two to finally compose easily in alternative tunings. :( :( :(

I made a post about this on Reddit and also on Gearslutz: http://www.reddit.com/r/Logic_Studio/comments/2o28g9/custom_tuning_is_broken_in_logic_1007/
https://www.gearslutz.com/board/logic-pro-x/929522-logics-new-update-breaks-global-tuning.html

This is unbelievably frustrating.

It isn't only when unloading an instrument either.

I tried to work on some of my 5EDO/10EDO projects today, thinking "Hey, I'll just load all the EXS/Synths/effect plug-ins I'll need beforehand and sidestep the issue!", but then I found out that if you draw in a midi note anywhere, the audio engine resets to Equal Temperament. If you add a region, reset. If you delete any notes, reset. Sometimes just stopping and playing the session again after making some modulation changes would cause a tuning reset.

There is literally no work around other than having the tuning window open at all times and on another screen or monitor and constantly sweeping over to click on the radio button every time you perceive a global tuning reset.

:(

Logic is the most amazing DAW for being the only one that gives you at least basic global historical/alternative scale settings. I really hope they haven't forgotten about us weirdos.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and just stumbled onto this thread. I've been trying to record a project at A=432 and finding that my software instruments want to stay at 440 unless I go into Project Settings, Tuning, and play with Equal Tempered and Fixed to make it sound in tune. But then it goes back to 440. I am using Logic Pro 10.1.1. with a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 8GB RAM.

I am mainly using the Upright Studio Bass that comes with Logic. Any ideas? Thank you
