logic8mine
I'm having difficulty mapping many of the Motif XS knobs and faders to Mainstage. The learn function is not recognizing them... Does anyone know of a reason why? Or a way around this?
mmm42
I'm having difficulty mapping many of the Motif XS knobs and faders to Mainstage. The learn function is not recognizing them... Does anyone know of a reason why? Or a way around this? Launch MIDI Monitor http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/ and post the output for a fader here. I can then tell you what is going on. logic8mine
There are 8 knobs, (only one of which I cannot map) and 8 faders, (none of them will map). I've recorded the output of the 1 knob and 1 fader... 11:55:11.922 From MOTIF XS:1 Active Sense 11:55:12.123 From MOTIF XS:1 Active Sense 11:55:12.149 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.158 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.169 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.178 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.192 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.201 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.211 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.223 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.235 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.244 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.254 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.264 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.278 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.287 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.292 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.297 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.309 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.321 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:12.324 From MOTIF XS:1 Active Sense 11:55:18.752 From MOTIF XS:1 Active Sense 11:55:18.953 From MOTIF XS:1 Active Sense 11:55:18.974 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:18.992 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:18.996 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:19.011 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:19.019 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:19.019 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:19.031 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:19.039 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:19.050 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:19.068 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:19.078 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:19.087 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:19.109 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:19.113 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:19.125 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:19.143 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:19.152 From MOTIF XS:1 SysEx Yamaha 10 bytes 11:55:19.152 From MOTIF XS:1 Active Sense [/i]
mhuisman
I have an ES, not an XS, so this may or may not help... On the ES, the sliders and knobs *only* xmit MIDI controller values when the ES is in Master Mode, if in Voice or Performance mode, it xmits SysEx values, like what you're seeing. Check the Motif's manual, but my hunch is you're running into the same thing I did... good luck with this Michael

MainStage can't learn SysEx. You have to reconfigure your MOTIF to send standard controllers
logic8mine
Thanks, I don't believe this is adjustable from within the XS but, I'll do more research...
logic8mine
Posting the answer in case someone else needs it: OK, the answer is really very simple once you think it through... And, actually, it would be good to read pages 254-257 of the XS manual... From Master Mode on the XS, I selected the Full Grand Piano Voice. Selected edit (Page 254 of manual) followed by [F2] (Other). Made the following changes: Zone Switch=ON Knob Control Switch=ZONE Press the Part Select #1 Button (and exit Common Edit). Note: If you press [F3], then [sF2] both 'Knob' and 'Slider' should be checked for each zone... Press [F1] Change the transmit channels of Zones 1-8 to MIDI channels 1-8 respectively... Turn on the Ext. Switch all 8 Zones Store the Master and have fun in MainStage...
