"Preview Sample in Ultrabeat Voice" - Broken in L9

Postby Hint » Mon Jul 27, 2009 10:47 am

Can anyone help me confirm this please?

When browsing for replacement samples in an Ultrabeat voice, ticking the "Preview Sample in Ultrabeat Voice" box no longer works for me.

The currently loaded sample continues to play unless I click "Play" and then "Stop" for each replacement sample.

My thoughts exactly!

I use Ultrabeat all the time and this is a pretty fundamental feature.

Fingers crossed for a speedy fix. Logic 9 doesn't appear on the drop-down list for the feedback page yet though. Are people reporting L9 bugs through the feedback form yet?

Works fine here!

Hmmm.... interesting.

What format are the samples you're browsing / replacing?

Just to confirm - you can set a sequence playing, tick the box, and then scroll through sounds in the browser and they play back through the selected voice in Ultrabeat when highlighted?

I have tried it in an old Logic 8 project and a fresh Logic 9 project with no joy. The equivalent feature in the EXS24 is working fine though.

I tick the check box and then pres play and then I can scroll around.

In Logic 8 you did not have to press play again. (after it got fixed)

Try this:
Press preview sample in Ultrabeat Voice.
Press play.
Scroll down.. Now you hear all your different samples.

Works great. BUT.

If I then deselect preview sample in Ultrabeat Voice,
and continue scrolling down, the voice still changes,
and you can see a new sample being loaded in the waveform window,
but when you escape out of the window the sample does not stay loaded.

It was different in Logic 8.02. Better.
But it is not the drama as in Logic 8.01.

I can live with it, but its not perfect.

Play in Logic or Play in the sample browser window?

For "Preview Sample in Ultrabeat Voice" you shouldn't need to press the play button in the browser window at all.

Ok... but when you do this it works. (play in the sample browser window.)

It replaces the sound, but for me it triggers it twice (once on note on, again on note off). I need to click stop to prevent this double-triggering. Is it the same for you?

Having pressed stop, I then can't preview another sound until I've selected it, pressed play, then pressed stop again. Having to click play and then stop for each sound is pretty awkward. I regularly scroll through long lists of drum hits.

Is there an official procedure for bug reporting in L9 yet? The feedback form doesn't list Logic 9 in the drop-down menu.

Nearly 6 months, 3 app updates and several polite emails to Apple support later... it's still broken in 9.1.0.

Very disappointing

15 months later... it's still broken.

22 months later, it's still broken.

I guess I'm the only person that cares about this, including the development team?

Yep, still not working. Very annoying. There shouldn't be bugs with something so fundamental.

Still broken in 9.1.5

Can someone please explain this to me? How can bugs like the Delay Designer zipper noise be created and squashed within a couple of months, but bugs like this get ignored for 2 years?

Who decides these things?

Finish album, look for a new DAW.

I would truly love to know the answers to this. I've also been finding it very difficult to work with Logic recently. The most bizarre experience I ever had with it happened the other day.

I inserted a reverb on the next free bus which happened to be bus 5. Using the sends on any track I could send signal to this bus no problem except for one track (the lead synth) which would not allow me to send any signal to this bus!!

To prove I wasn't doing something stupid, I changed the input to the bus 5 aux containing the reverb to bus 6 and low and behold, I could send signal from the lead synth track to the reverb using bus 6.

I then changed the input to the aux back to bus 5 and again I could not send any signal from my lead synth to the reverb using bus 5.

This is just one of many serious issues I have had with Logic recently. I only seemed to start having these issues since 9.1.4.

I really think it is time to look for a new DAW.

Exactly.

Bugs - fine, normal, acceptable.
Taking a bit of time to fix bugs - fine, normal, acceptable.

Not fixing certain bugs after 2 years, despite several app updates, and giving users no indication that you're even trying? That's crazy!

I get the impression that there is perhaps a smallish pool of "trusted" Logic users who Apple deal with. If a bug is introduced that affects a few of these privileged users, they are listened to and the bugs are acknowledged and squashed. If the bug does not affect these users, it doesn't seem to exist as far as Apple is concerned. The Feedback form is a black hole.

OK... so they claim it's fixed in 9.1.6... I got excited, have just upgraded from Leopard to 10.6.8.

But it isn't fixed.

Delightful.

In addition, the Ultrabeat volume control has no effect on the previewed sample when "Preview Sample In Ultrabeat Voice" option is selected.

Hey!

I ended up completely changing my workflow and switching to EXS24 to avoid this issue about a year ago, but I would love to move back to Ultrabeat, so I still check on this bug.

Anyway... just in case anybody who is any kind of position to get this fixed happens to read this:

- It's November 2012. In Logic 9.1.8 // OSX 10.6.8 "Preview Sample In Ultrabeat Voice" still does not work.

Over 3 years since it first broke.
