"Launch Event without associated track found" erro

"Launch Event without associated track found" error "changed to track 1"

I'm getting this when trying to merge a bunch of folders together. Anyone know this one.

(Of courser searching "launch event" in the help files or this forum give me hundreds of uses for "launch" or "event")

I know this one well. Aren't you glad to know that you're not the only one who gets the weird ones?

This will occur if the track count and/or track assignment order within two folders aren't absolutely identical.

So if you have in folder A:

TK  assignment

1.   thing 1

2.   thing 2

3.   thing 3

And in folder B you have:

TK  assignment

1.   thing 1

2.   thing 3

...then merging these two folders will result in that Launch error message.

Same thing will happen merging two folders with this content:

Folder A:

TK  assignment

1.   thing 1

2.   thing 2

3.   thing 3

Folder B:

TK  assignment

1.   thing 1

2.   thing 3

3.   thing 2

So by re-arranging the tracks in each folder so that they all line up will the error go away?

(Thought I'd ask this before trying it as this particular folder merge has about 16 segments to it)

Correct.

The most basic thing to do would be to put your tracks (with their assigned instruments) in the same order, even if the track count doesn't match to start. But here's an example of the worst case scenario where the folders have mismatched track count and assignments.

Here are two folders that you want to merge:

(A)                           (B)

1. thing 1               thing 1 

2. thing 2               thing 3

3. thing 5               thing 4

What you'd have to do is modify both folders so that you have the same track count and order of assignments:

("X" = new, empty track, no regions)

(A)                           (B)

1. thing 1               thing 1 

2. thing 2               thing 2 (X)

3. thing 3 (X)          thing 3

4. thing 4 (X)          thing 4

5. thing 5               thing 5 (X)

These two folders will now merge without resulting in a LAUNCH error.

Wait until you try to open a bunch of virtual instruments and/or plug-ins and see how far fewer you can open than in Logic.

2) Don't get me started on that one... The manual needs a complete overhaul, but that's fodder for a whole 'nuther thread...

3) I've been looking at DP also. The thing that's keeping me with Logic, aside from 10 years of familiarity (like you) is its score editor and the hope (based on credible info) about it being upgraded in the near future.
