Thanks Emile..

Nothing 'bad' going on there, as far as I can tell... with your connection to that server..

Back to the drawing board I guess...

...And the Story Continues!

I recently updated my studio machine to 10.7.2 and I'm now experiencing the 5 second stall.
When Logic has finished loading there is a small gap of unresponsiveness until I can open my start template.

The only solution to get rid of the lag is to disable my Ethernet connection.
Did anyone find another solution to this problem?

PS. This is only happening on my Mac Pro which isn't configured with an Airport card.
Everything works perfectly fine on my Mac Book Pro.

Nigel, belated thanks for your replies to my previous posts.

Curious about something... looking at the sharing prefs in 9.1.5, they're all unchecked, and I think those are the default settings (I've trashed my prefs once or twice in the past and never even looked at those settings before, so that's what's leading me to believe that "unchecked" is the default for all). Wondering if in 9.1.6 they're enabled by default?

Ski,

I believe that for whatever reason my "Backup all my settings on MobileMe" setting was checked and I unchecked it but that could well be because it was checked prior to the update to 9.1.6. I have to do a fresh install of Logic on a clean computer this weekend so I will take a look and see if 9.1.6 changes any of these preferences from all unchecked to all/some/only one checked or not...

Eric,

First, make sure all sharing prefs in Logic are turned off and unchecked and then test...

If that doesn't cure it.. then...

Did you have MobileMe set up on your MacPro prior to upgrading to 10.7.2?

Did you also turn on iCloud?

If so.... Go to Lion's Prefs/MobileMe and Turn off iDisk if it is active.... and see if that improves matters

If not... then also try.... If, when creating your iCloud account, you had to change your MobileMe password in order for you to be able to use iCloud.. Go to Lion's Prefs/MobileMe and sign out and sign in to MobileMe using your new Password and again, see if that fixes things for you...

Yeah, good idea to check up on those checks to see if they're checked; but if you've checked the checks and they're checked then unchecking those checked checks might be the way to checkmate this network checking chicanery.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

You are a star in the sky. :D

n6smith wrote:Eric,

It has never been checked so that's not the issue.

No

Yes, i did.

It is not active and has never been.

This doesn't apply to my situation.

It's really strange. Switching of the ethernet in System Preferences certainly works... but that is not a good solution. ;)
Any other thoughts?

Thanks for your answer jordito!
I do not want to bother with little snitch on my studio computer. I could use it on my MBP but everything works fine on that computer.

It must be something else that we are missing...
I'm going to try connecting the MacBook Pro via Ethernet and see if i get the same problem.

Only that you mentioned earlier that you are not using an Airport in your Mac Pro.. but I don't see that being the cause of the 'delay'

All I can tell you, is basically what i posted up earlier in this thread. Logic 9.1.6 does up to three online checks and for some reason it is taking longer than normal with your setup to complete one or more of those checks..

The known reasons so far, for such delays have been found to be

Having the wrong MM password after upgrading to iCloud
Having iDisk incorrectly authorized
Having an incorrect MM password in the Keychain
Having Logic Sharing with iDisk turned on without iDisk be activated/correctly authorized

But as none of those apparently apply in your case, then I'm afraid I'm stumped...

and yes I know... No perfume for me....

Hi

With all this talk of Logic 'phoning home', I wonder why Firewalls have not been mentioned?

How have you got your OS firewall set (or any external ones)?

Yes. It is set but I have tried with all options, Off or On.
If on I've tried both blocking or allowing Logic I don't see any difference in responsiveness. :?

Yes, setting or unsetting the OS's firewall won't change anything as the 'phone homes' are passed through not matter what.

This has to be something to do with whether or not Logic (or one of it's connected routines) sees if there is an active network connection and if there is, it does the checks.. otherwise it skips them, hence no delay. The issue is... why is it that for some people, the 'check' doesn't cause a delay and for others it does?

All I can offer, from my own experiences with my systems and network, is that I get no delay at all with any of my different computers. I also took my main iMac and one of my MMS's.. to a client who has the delay issue (and has an identical iMac computer/OS/Logic version as myself) and plugged both of them into his network and i still didn't get a delay so it has to be computer/Software specific rather than some kind of external network problem...
