My XP-10 needs an expression pedal!

Postby bobsbarricades » Wed Apr 11, 2012 4:06 pm

And I don't want to buy one from ROland because they charged me 40 bucks just for the power adapter. Can I just buy any used expression pedal and it'll work or will I have to get a roland?

Any should work; it's only MIDI after all.

The Internet should pay you for those kinds of posts.

Question though. When I said expression pedal, here and to Roland who said to ge the ev5, I meant expression like on a piano where the dampened are released to get that o so beautiful sustain. Maybe I meant sustain pedal?

I believe you mean a Sostenuto pedal - don't know if technically that differs from a sustain pedal though; could be that it's just a different controller number... 66... so a sustain pedal plus a transformer cc 64>66 should do it...?

I'll be honest I'm quite confused at this point. On the piano , I went to wiki because this was buggin me, I should know this... the sustain undampens all the strings, while thte sos pedal is the middle pedal that undampens only the keys being depressed at the time of the pedal.

BUT! I'm still confused about this sustain business. How is the EV-5 a sustain pedal? I kind of like the idea of getting it because i could use it to control effects in Guitar rig (please say yes.. or in the guitar amps that come iwth LP9...yes?)

BUT HOW IS IT A SUSTAIN PEDAL! it looks like a volume pedal. A Pot sending out info... wouldn't a sustain pedal be a switch? 0, or 1, on or off?
sorry for my density

Well, the EV 5 (by Boss) is a volume/expression pedal - I don't know why you thought it was not, as you did ask for an expression pedal originally, and this seems to fit that description. and indeed a sustain pedal is "just" an on-off switch.

o I should've known when I saw that smiley 0.o

the reason I ask when looking for tutorials is that I hate wasting time going through BAD ones. So I was curious if anyone had been down this road.

... -.- ....
