Two Systems on one Mac Pro?

Postby Blue Monkey » Tue Apr 24, 2012 1:33 am

I just received my new Mac Pro yesterday. I installed 3 additional internal HD's. It came with Lion installed (no install discs so I would like to keep Lion on an HD for the future).

Can I start up on Lion, install Snow Leopard on one of the extra drives (Bay 2) and then simply change the Start Up Disk in System Prefs to run SL? Or do I have to remove the HD in Bay 1 with Lion on it and replace that HD with a new one and then install SL?

Yes.

Thanks Erik.

SL install successful!

One question regarding both SL and Lion. I noticed that the HD icons do not show up on the desktop anymore, only in the Finder window (in Leopard the HD icons are on the desktop). Is there a preference/setting for this or have the desktop icons for HD's just been written out?

Yes, there a Finder preference for showing disk icons. Finder > Preferences > Genenal.

Thanks Jordito!

I was never aware of that preference since on Leopard 'Hard Disks' and 'External Disks' were selected by default (just checked Finder Prefs on Leopard since your reply). I guess they just changed the default settings since SL. Fine by me as long as I know my options.

Thanks again Jordito.
