External MIDI Channel Strip bug found?

Postby mattcon » Fri May 11, 2012 8:12 am

I'm trying to send a prog. change and bank change to an external MIDI module through MainStage. However, when I try to save my channel strip settings to send this MIDI OUT info on patch change, the information is erased when I change patches.

Am I saving this incorrectly, or is there a bug in MS that prevents the channel strip from saving the Bank and Patch info to send?

I'm fairly competent with MainStage, and I know this is the correct place to enter the data. Yet, I'm at a loss!

For those interested, MainStage requires the user to input the MSB, LSB values and then reinforce by pressing enter. Or to use the arrow scroll buttons.

I was manually entering my MSB/LSB and thinking that MianStage would remember the value without pressing enter.

I like this because I can use a VAX77 with MainStage in their Host Control mode and still control external sound modules. Cool stuff.

Hi

Are you attempting to save the MS MIDI Out Program Change messages as part of a Channel Strip Setting?

If so, you are out of luck: The PG send info is stored as part of the MS Patch, NOT the Channel Strip Setting. Try saving the Patch instead.

Hi CCT,

Thanks for the suggestion. I was able to figure out what was happening.

I am applying the settings on the Patch level, but I couldn't get the patch to "remember" my adjustments. I thought it had to do with saving channel strip settings. But in the end, as it usually is, a simple miscommunication between myself and the CPU! Once I focused my efforts towards the Patch info things are working well and I can control my hardware synths through MS. Like I said, cool stuff, and the Host Control mode of the VAX77 makes the whole thing really easy to control on stage.
