comp editing question

Postby rycwdstn » Thu Jun 14, 2012 10:10 am

I am working with an open Take folder containing five takes. Quick Swipe Comping is enabled (it is checked in the Take Folder Menu). I can select a section in one of the takes, but when I then try to select a second section in another of the takes, that first section becomes de-selected, and the expected behavior of all remaining sections of the other takes becoming de-selected, as well as the top most track reflecting my comp selections, fails to occur.

In other words, I can't seem to Quick Swipe Comp. I bet I'm missing something obvious.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I don't think you're missing something obvious - from your description it sounds like you're doing it right.

Can you post a screenshot?

Thanks, David. I have a screen shot ready, but I'm not seeing how to attach it to my response. I'm in the full editor and thinking that the Img button looks good, but don't see how to browse for my screen shot.

You have to use the tab that's below the full editor that says "Upload Attachment". (the img button is for an url to an image that is already on the web).

missed that

ok. in the screen shot, i am attempting the comp edit on track 14. i made the first selection on take 19, which behaves as i'd expect. i attempted the next selection on take 21. this time my prior selection on take 19 was not de-selected, but the selection on take 21 does not seem to fully execute as a Quick Swipe Comp.

Open in preview and save as a .png. Or use Command-Shift-4 and drag around an area to take a .png screenshot.

Hi

This is an issue I've posted on several times and seems to be a bit of a mystery. I have projects where comp swiping works flawlessly and others where it behaves as you've described. I've never been able to isolate what triggers this. Have you tried importing everything into a new project?

Shout out for a bug fix?

Fascinating. I didn't think of importing to new project because I am a new Logic user and I was pretty sure I was missing a step somewhere. I figured I needed to stick with it to learn something about the program (e.g., I learned through trouble shooting this that in preferences you can assign marquee behavior to the pointer).

But yes, might be time for a work-around, and thanks for the suggestion. I'll attempt to import only the Take folder to a new project, make the comp edit there, bounce it, and re-import it to the original project. Then I'll try a comp edit in some other project as a test of the general availability of that function in Logic. I'll be a bit disappointed if it doesn't work.

Might be quicker to import everything (audio, settings etc) into a new project and work from there.

Thanks much. I didn't find that thread, searched only as "comp editing". My issue is not a group swipe issue, but i'm certain that the end points of the takes in question do vary slightly, so I'm looking forward to trying David's suggestion in the thread you offered.

I did make certain that all takes were of identical length, and sadly, I got the same result as in the screen shot above. It does look more and more like a bug, but I'd still love to hear any other ideas. It would be a bit of a hassle to import everything from the current project, but perhaps I'll have to.

The Quick Swipe edit is a function I'd like to be able to count on.

Very strange, I've NEVER had any issues whatsoever with quick swipe, even when the takes were of different lengths.
You have more take folders in that project, does it happen with those too or just that particular one?

Very strange indeed. Have you tried unpacking the takes to new track, and repacking the take folder?

I did try unpacking to a new track and then packing a new take and the same thing happened. There is also another different take folder in the project, and the same thing occurred trying quick swipe with that one. The only thing I haven't tried yet is to record a test Take Folder in a new project just to see if I can get it to work.

Since I discovered this problem I have found folks complaining of the same on other sites. They say Quick Swipe works sometimes, in some projects, and then doesn't in others. Folks seem to think it's a bug. I can't figure out what I might be doing wrong. Do you think it might be unaddressed bug?

I ended up making my comp by cutting and pasting the components into a new track and then manually crossfading. That's how I used to do it in SONAR 5. Pretty frustrating.

I meant I tried unpacking the takes to a new track and then re-packing the takes into a new take folder on that new track. Didn't work.
