Not Automatically Saving Files to Correct Spot

Postby sullyblime » Wed Jun 20, 2012 6:22 pm

Hello. First post.

Usually, if I want to save a channel strip setting or an EQ setting, Logic automatically goes to the appropriate file location and all I have to do is click save once. However, now it doesn't recognize where to go and just opens up to my desktop. How can I return it to its original setting? I'm not sure why this happened but it's a pain in the ass

In the save dialog,

Navigate to:

Your-home-folder/Library/Application Support/Logic/Channel Strip Settings/...

or

Your-home-folder/Library/Application Support/Logic/Plug-In Settings/...

As for your issue - have you tried to trash the Logic preferences yet? Let me know if you need help with that.

Thanks David. I located the spot of where the files are, but how do I get Logic to automatically open to that spot when I go to save something? Before it did it automatically.

Maybe you just told me and I'm missing something.

I'm not sure how to trash the Logic preferences. What's the benefit of that? Should I look into it?

Trashing the preferences could solve the issue. It's easy to try and costs nothing:

1) Quit Logic
2) Move {your-home-folder}/Library/Preferences/com.apple.logic.pro.plist to your desktop
3) Open Logic

Did it change anything?
- Yes? Great! That means your old preferences were corrupted. You can trash the old preference file that is on your desktop, but you'll have to reprorgram any custom preference (including key commands).
- No? Too bad. That means you can quit Logic, move the old desktop pref file to its original location, replacing the new one Logic just made, and reopen Logic.

:!: Suggest you back up your key commands before trashing the prefs. Do this from the Key Commands window itself. Then follow David's instructions for trashing prefs.

I'm just trying this now, David. Sorry about the delay. But I think I may know the problem. I can't even locate that file in the directory you gave me. I've scoured it many times. I have prefs to many of my other plugins, but no file like you said listed.

Could this be why it's happening with all my files? Native Instruments can't find any presets. UAD doesn't save or load automatically the presets I designed. Same with all other plugins. It seems it's effecting everything

Can you post a screenshot of the Finder window where you're looking with the alphabetical location where the pref file should be? My guess is, you may be looking in the wrong spot (Logic can not run without that pref file). Make sure you start the path from your HOME FOLDER.
