No sound in system [SOLVED]

Postby rozzy » Thu Jul 05, 2012 11:38 pm

Hi all, i have a problem with my Mac Mini and Logic Pro 9.
Once I lost my sound system. Maybe it was because I changed something in the settings of Logic Pro. I have an Akai MPK mini, which I use for writing music. In the system there is no sound, does not work flash, sound in itunes, except in a logic pro. What could I do wrong? help, do not know what to do.

Have you checked your Sound prefpanel? In >System Preferences. You can also check it in the Audio Window of the Audio MIDI Setup utility (found in Applications>Utilities).

When you say "sound in iTunes", I'm unclear as to what you mean: is there sound when playing from iTunes, or not? And is there sound from Logic, or not?
I have to add, when altering sound settings in Logic Pro, this does (or should) not affect anything else but Logic.

"Talent hits a target no one else can hit..."

(...) :?
...the rest I sort of forgot, but it was a really awesome quote!

Yes, I've checked Sound panel. There are all checkboxes disabled.

The Audio Midi Setup crashes every time i run it. Image :(

When i say “sound In iTunes” i mean, I'm trying to play some songs, but it don't won't. Image
It doesn't start and doesn't play anything.
Also, in other music player all the same. Such as flash in safari and chrome doesn't work.

I understand, that Logic preferences can not influence on the system settings, but i think it is problem with Logic, because only there sound plays.

Sorry for my bad English, I'm Russian

If it is, it were too simple:)
I tried, but it is disabled. You see? The opacity of the checkbox is lower than of the checkbox below.

Right. Well, at least we are narrowing down the problem. Now we have to figure out why that Mute box is disabled.

The same thing in the top bar. I can't change any value at all. I tried to change value via terminal, but it doesn't work.
Code: Select all
sudo osascript -e "set Volume 10"

I've only ever seen this when the constituents of an aggregate device are muted, then you cannot unmute the aggregate device itself. But there are no aggregate devices here. Also, the crashing of the AMS utility is not OK.
So, rozzy, could you also show a screenshot of Logics' coreaudio prefs? And do you have a choice? There seems to be just the one output device, so...

It would also help if you could add your setup to your signature, as the forum rules (esp. 5 & 6) request:

Yes, that is.
But how many should be output devices? Is it the problem? But why Logic sounds in contrast of other apps?

I have logic pro 1.9.7, OS X 10.7.4, Mac mini 2011, Intel Core i5 2.3 GHz, 8GB RAM, default Toshiba HDD, default audio interface.
I use AKAI MPK Mini which connected via USB, the problem appeared 2 weeks ago, i ve reboot my Mac Mini and sound appears. but then the sound was disappearing more and more and now there is no sound at all. Exept Logic pro, of course. A week ago i tried to connect ASIO sound card (via usb) and sound had appeared.

What do you mean by "default audio interface"?

So after reboot everything sounded normal but then slowly the sound disappeared? That is very odd.

Also, what is plugged into your Headphone Jack? External speakers (if so what kind) or headphones? Not that it will explain why Mute is grayed back but just curious.

he-he. i just don't understand what is audio interface in Russian.
I mean default Mac mini dynamics.

No-no-no. Not slowly disappeared. It worked fine until next power off.

Well, I'm sorry rozzy but I'm out of ideas and I can't reproduce your problem. Hopefully someone else will have some idea what is going on. Also, it is very strange that Audio Midi Set-up is crashing when you try to launch it. Seems that may be the source of the problem.

If I think of anything else I will post it.

Good luck!

I did a search on Google and found a few threads. It seems that this is a Lion issue (bug).

Read through these two threads and see if any of this information helps.

Thanks, Scott. I hope, someone will help me. Because its too difficult to live without any sounds and music.

May it be because of installing the Adobe CS6 Master Collection? Flash doesn't work. Maybe something went wrong during installation. But why AMS crashes.

Yes, i got it. I tried to write into the terminal following command:
Code: Select all
sudo kill -9 `ps ax|grep 'coreaudio[a-z]' |awk '{print $1}'`

And sound appeared. But all applications were slow and i decided to reboot. After rebooting there were no sound, but i tried the command again and his appeared once again. AMS launched. I saw all CS6 apps in the left column. Then i removed them and started the iTunes. works good, flash too, everythingg works good, Logic too. :P
Now i will reboot mac again to see the progress. Wait some minutes, my friends.

Yes, it works! Thanks to all, thanks Scott. It works, i just removed all Adobe applications from ASM. It seems to CS6 installed sounds to audio inputs. Now it works perfect. Thanks to all again!
