Mainstage for iPad, Please

This is an obvious winner for Apple.
Can they see the writing on the wall?

If Apple can't get MainStage to run without audio/system resource issues on a top-end MacBook Pro, how will they be able to achieve this on an iPad?

I'd love MS on an iPad too but really can't see it happening, especially in light of my above rhetorical question.

My pal here on the Big Island uses Mainstage on a MacBook Pro for his church gigs.
What's the problem?

You could use GarageBand for iOS as an amp.

Maddcow, spoke to my pal who uses Mainstage on his MacBook Pro at his church gig.
He is the manager of the Mac store here in Kona and is a certified Logic specialist.
He said you can find YouTube videos for the workarounds you would need to make Mainstage happen on
your laptop. Good luck.

Thesherwood, I appreciate the info but my MainStage rig is working fine. However, there ARE ongoing issues with MainStage that often require workarounds or upgraded hardware (audio or computer) as you've intimated. There are numerous other DAWs that don't have these issues and yet MS is still plagued with them. If Apple can't get it right on a computer-based platform, how on earth will they get it right on iPad?

Someone else will do something similar...e.g. Roland, Fender, Vox, Kurzweil, etc.

We're all hoping that the future Logic update doesn't turn into Logic Lite, as Final Cut Pro did.......iMovie Pro. Ha!

It's not quite the same thing, but I use a program for the iPad called LiveRig which allows me to control MainStage running on my laptop wirelessly. Which means I can put my Macbook Pro and Duet interface and all those power cords and USB cords and Firewire and audio cables backstage or on the backline, and just run MainStage from my iPad on stage via a wireless connection, which is way cleaner. No internet connection is necessary; I set up a quick computer-to-computer wireless network, which I didn't know about before. LIveRig even comes with a MainStage template (I'm not affiliated, but the way). No problems yet, though of course I play a real sound-making keyboard on stage (Yamaha S90XS) so no heart attacks over computers or wireless connections failing (again, rock solid so far). I love the S90XS, and have had pretty much everything, but am a Hammond and Leslie snob, so use MainStage to play the incredible VB3 organ, Scarbee electric pianos (S90XS are better though) and Moog Modular, for incredibly fat (no not phat, fat) vintage Moog sounds. I use ForScore on my iPad to hold all my charts and fake books, but have yet to try running it and LiveRig at the same time (just haven't had time for an off-stage test). Not sure if it'll multi-task like that, in case anyone knows. Anyway, this sounds complicated, but it isn't really, and is a killer way to clean up the stage rig.

Hey there...liverig looks great from looking at the website. Any chance you could share your experience using it with main stage? What is the template like? Any nasty bugs?

Well, just recently I found a really great app called lptouch (note that's "l" as in "logic"), which I have to say blows away LiveRig, great though the latter is. LPtouch has 5 different tabs, so a lot of information, setup is stupid-easy, it includes even a tab for editing instrument parameters that updates upon track (patch) change, wow, deep. By having 5 tabs the controls are a nice size. Nice big mixer, transports, easy solo/mute, track set, a separate tab for Channel Strip, EQ, Pan-Sends, Instrument, and Main/Volume. However, I haven't tried it with MainStage, nor live. Right now I've tried it in my studio via a wireless network, not a computer-to-computer network as with LiveRig, though a c-to-c network should work fine. If it doesn't play nicely with MainStage I'll have to decide between using Logic live with lpTouch to change tracks or use program changes to change patches and having less control (although that may not be a problem, we'll see), or using MS with LiveRig and having more control (because of MainStage's design). Stay tuned.

I've thought about it and I think it could happen, sort of. Maybe make separate apps, say, MS Playback iOS. Or,
MS Audio iOS, MS Keys. Maybe a mix & match type thing where, you only get what you need. I for one, don't use
soft synths. Just Playback and audio stuff. Now if only they made a multi-output interface for iPad. Like 4 in 6 out.

Ha, another genius thinking the most bleedin' obvious is missed...

...or 16m, or 20m, or 13% of American(= 0.13x314 = ± 40m etc. etc.)

...these statistics are at best "educappearancing guesstimates" - the validity of the number depends on the used definition of guitar player. In this case that definition is probably this equasion: guitar owner=guitar player. Not a great definition.

Yes, I know, it is the "greatest country on earth" - still, I have a hunch that Apple looks at the global market. 50 million guitar players worldwide.

But, wait, Apple people probably realise/suspect/are aware of the fact/have been told that there are more instruments than just the guitar. My guesstimate? 150-200 million people globally regularly make music one way or the other. 2 %.

...the rest I sort of forgot, but it was a really awesome quote!
