Logic 9 on iMac w/ LaCie external drives help...

Postby sebrobertson » Sun Jul 22, 2012 9:47 am

What is the most effective to allocate workloads to my drives. I'm on an iMac 3.06 ghz with 4gb ram (snow leopard). I use a LaCie rugged for all of my sessions. Logic 9 sits on the main drive. and I just got Kontakt5/Kopmplete 8 and some other plugs. It's running a little slow now and I was curious if putting all sample libraries and plugs on another drive would be a smart move. Thanks in advance for your time.

Kontakt and Komplete are gonna eat a lot of resources and they need lots of Ram. 4 gigs is not gonna be much with those plugs, so I would upgrade to 8 gigs if possible.

And also remember that to take fully advantage of those 8 gigs, you'd have to run Logic in 64-bit, so make sure that all your 3rd party plugins are 64-bit ready.
Otherwise, Logic in 32-bit will use less than 3 gigs of ram.
Kontakt I think has its own memory server, but I don't know the impact of that in 32-bit.
