change Audio region key [SOLVED]

hello,

if i have an audio region that has a bass sound that is in the note of F. How can i take that region and change its sound up and down the keys? lets say i want to make it in the note of A instead of F. what is the most efficient way to change keys of an audio region? :?

You could load your sample into an EXS24 sampler, then trigger the sample using MIDI notes. The pitch of the MIDI note determines the playback pitch of your sample.

Or you could open the file in the sample editor and use the Time and Pitch machine to destructively change the pitch of the audio file.

Both will yield different results, the first one will change the pitch AND the length of the note (much like playing a vinyl or a tape faster or slower) while the second will only change the pitch.

it sounds like the time and pitch machine will be best in keeping the sound authentic.

Not necessarily as to keep the length intact it has to perform some kind of stretching that introduces artifacts, while the EXS24 simply plays the sample faster or slower, which does not introduce artifacts but does denature the sound a bit, making it sound "smaller" or "bigger" especially if you're trying to play it at a pitch that's very different from its original pitch. So if you record your voice and play it an octave higher you'll sound like Mickey Mouse.
