Troubleshooting Logic 8

Postby David » Thu Sep 13, 2007 1:01 pm

If you are experiencing unexpected behaviors or frequent crashes in Logic 8 and suspect that your preference files may have been corrupted, you need to know that the location and names of the preference files have changed in Logic 8 to conform to the Apple standard.

You now need to backup and delete:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.logic.pro.plist and
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.logic.pro.cs (control surface preferences)

Anyone running AMT8's or Unitor 8's under Logic 8? Would like to hear if you've experienced any problems as someone has reported over on the Apple/Logic8 forum:

I've got an MT4. Works fine, but I only use Port 1.

I've noticed a bug on my PPC machines is the library always shows me twice a certain MIDI Port. So if my MT4 is plugged, I will see

MT4 Port 1
MT4 Port 2
MT4 Port 3
MT4 Port 4

If it's unplugged and I use Network MIDI Ports I will see

Network MIDI Port 1
Network MIDI Port 2
Network MIDI Port 2

No problem on Intel.

Sorry that doesn't really help you but that's all I can offer.

As you know, my setup is identical to yours. Unitor8 with AMT8 daisychained.

He's having problems with port 6&7 but I can confirm that 6 works great and 7 at least shows activity but I haven't got it plugged into anything. Maybe I will today.

I have port 6 I/O of the U8 going to a CM Motormix. Working great.

I have port 14 I/O (port 6 of the AMT8) going to my old G3 Soundiver-Kurzweil rig. Also working great.

Note that when I installed Logic 8, there's an option to install the Unitor8 family drivers. I checked that. (Just in case).

I replied to Steven "over there" too.

Seem to be having a problem:

Just installed logic studio and trying to get my mackie control universal to work. So far Logic wont see it at all just asks me to check connections and the only port it see are my midi controller keyboard ports. I have the midi lead running out of the mackie control to my maudio firewire interface and for some reason it wont see those ports or the mackie control

Im using the m-audio firewire 410 interface with all latest drivers.

firmware: 2006-02-08 12:21:16 +0000

Panel 1.3.2

Driver 1.8.2

build: 2

A second person with the same set up has reported the same too :( Any solutions you know of David?

paulm,

Out of curiousity, have you tried booting the MCU into Logic Control mode and then trying a manual install as a Logic Control instead of a Mackie Control?

My Logic Controls are working perfectly here, so it makes me wonder . . .

When you say booting in logic control mode, could you tell me how one achieves that?

Turn off the MCU. Hold down channel 1 & 2 Select buttons while you power it up. After the fader calibration, the display should show Select Operating Mode: -Logic Ctrl- or -Mackie Ctrl-. Yours will probably have HUI as an option too. Push in the Vpot to select LC.

I have done that. In the apple audio midi window I only see my m-audio radium 49 and can see my firewire solo interface.? Should it be there?

No. You would never see it there as it doesn't have a driver that it installs for CoreMIDI. As long as your M-Audio driver shows up, you're golden.

Turn the MCU off, launch Logic 8, open Control Surfaces, Setup. Turn on the MCU. Does it announce and install itself about 5 seconds later? If not, manually add it from the New-Install menu and dialog and set the ports yourself.

Done it. Reinstalled the firewire drivers and noticed there was a little upgrade 1.2.2 (d) so that has done the trick. Thanks for help mate.

Then your M-Audio MIDI driver has gone wonky and you need to reinstall it. When you look in Audio MIDI Setup, does it show the driver online?

Hello,
I'm not an experienced user and I had to move my things, inncluding my Mac Pro (not by choice, I was hit by 2 cars and wound up in the hospital for 50 days).

Thankfully, I'm alive today and, more to the point, just installed the LP 8 upgrade. Manily, I record auio and soft synths. Since my M-Auido external sound card/MIDI interface is in a box somewhere, I just installed, for the time being, my USB MIDI keyboard to Logic 7.2 and would listen to the soft synth output through the Mac Pro internal audio out (actually, through headphones connected to the Mac Pro).

After I upgraded, I can see that soft syths record output, but I can no longer hear it through the headphones.

I didn't change any of the settings, either in Logic or in the Auido/MIDI set-up. What went wrong? What setting do I need to re-set??

Thanks for any replies and apologies for my relative ignorance on this (I'm rather new at this: I had just bought the Mac Pro in May and was planning on recording all summer, but wound up the hospital instead).

Try going into logic preferences>audio>drivers and make sure it hasn't selected your external card, if it has switch to built in output :)

Where to send bug info

Postby rjtemple » Fri Sep 14, 2007 5:32 pm

When I find a bug, does Apple appreciate getting info about it? Is there an email address I should send the info to?

It seems like th Solo Tool isn't working in the arrange window for frozen tracks. (soloing the track works fine) It seems mess with other tracks though when you try to use the solo tool on a frozen track, then it doesn't work for some of the software intrument tracks either... If I freeze a track and then use the solo tool on a software instrument track, it works until I try to use the tool on the frozen track... then it's hit or miss

Yes, definitely send your feedback with that form:

That's pretty cool, easy feedback from the users!

I also noticed that in the "Late Breaking News" PDF fro Apple's site, they say that you should periodically check it for changes to the documentation since apparently Logic 8 was altered in a few ways after the documentation was produced. YOu can do this it says by going to the help section of the program and selecting "Late Breaking News" and that it will launch the latest PDF in your web browser.

That's a pretty efficient way of communicating those changes.
A fool doesn't learn from his mistakes, but an absolute idiot doesn't learn from other people's.
