Beat this you Loudness freaks!

Recommended Posts

Ok.. so I was listening to Justice (the frence house artists) and while I was listening to Phantom (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zbSKnU5ZwJg), I was wondering how the audio file would look like (yes I know, that's probably pretty kinda audio obsessed) and I would like to share this magnificent piece of audio production with you:

Any song that can beat that? Impress me!

the second one is aphex twin. you can the song through its spectrograph glory in an awesome audio listening bitrate.

skip to the end for that image i linked to.

and the kitties can be found here:

i researched this many moons ago and came up empty handed in the mac realm. i _really_ don't want to install parallels to run just one fun program. i don't have the hd space for that.

oh yeah, best explanation here:

http://www.bastwood.com/aphex.php

oh yeah, thats right the mac software that he used was:

http://www.uisoftware.com/MetaSynth/index.html

but i found metasynth to be more of a music studio than a tool, and it was crippled too much to do anything unless you dropped like 500 bucks for it. so, someone has a hidden weapon to do the same, i'm up to knowing.

i want something reasonably easy to work with logic. a plugin would be excellent. but i will work with anything. i just didn't want to waste moon hours learning something totally new. i'd rather sharpen my logic skill, ya know?

Read this:

 [/url]

What are you talking about? That's pure dynamic genious!!! Just look towards the beginning where they go to pianissimo for a millisecond! I wish my music could be that expressive!

I was thinking it was one of those "Error Trying to Syncrhonize Audio and MIDI" messages that slipped by when no one was looking...

Yeah, you're probably right :D

Wow.

That's disgusting to even look at let alone listen to. I've heard a few of the songs off the album, which I like, but this is the major issue I have with it. To be fair, it's not only their stuff, but a lot of today's music. I guess I just listen to too many oldies.

Seriously though, I literally can't listen to songs that are THAT loud. My ears get fatigued very fast. The New Opeth Album comes to mind.

I'm always looking for ways to add MORE dynamics to my own songs and if it means shaving a few Db's here and there then so be it. The best stuff I've done has been when I stopped being concerned with how loud a song was and started concentrating on how GOOD or NOT SO GOOD it sounded.

Sometimes I forget this

But not so much anymore.

HAve a good one.

Here's the original, supposedly. You gotta wonder why Ted Jensen had to take it any further than this? Maybe some EQ and some subtle mastering tricks but it looks like it didn't need any more squashing than it already had. Maybe expanding it might have been a better option.

If that post is legit (but who knows) then Ted Jensen had nothing to do with it.

I can't tell you how bad I felt the Metallica album sounded.

But there was hope in the distance ....

Guitar Hero 3 has the whole Death Magnetic album for their game ... and it was made before the tracks were sent off for mastering .... so that means there is a (so-called) new and improved version out there.

(FWIW)

i dont wanna know how much are dogs suffering with this limiting. i mean, this is overflown with above 20k frequencies :)

Not very many consumer systems will produce frequencies over 20kHz, so I'm sure it's not too much of a problem.

im not talking about consumer systems :D

i know my monitors go over 20k (couple of K at least)

also opentype headphone go as much as 40k!!

and high class monitors go as high also! :)

well if I zoom out a little all of their songs are solid  ...too many variables to tell just by looking at a waveform from multiple computers...not that I am saying that I'm right, because I'm most likely not...i just mean you guys should hear that crappy album (Coldplay's X&Y), because it's unbelievable. The meters are at sitting at 0dBfs before the drums even come in.
