I use Kontakt 3 in Logic 8.
I find it easier to work using multi instruments when writing.
When mixing, I find myself separating Kontakt multi instruments into single instances, or bouncing to audio, in order to process sounds separately.
Has anyone done a test to see if, for example, a Kontakt multi with six instruments takes less CPU power (and RAM) than six single Kontakt instances containing one instrument each?
Thanks

The Kontakt multi is definitely more efficient regarding RAM and CPU but the difference depends on several factors, in particular DFD settings (# of voices).

For example, with instruments from Garritan's JABB library using the lite versions and minimum DFD settings (128 voices) I get the following rounded numbers:

- Multi with 8 instruments: RAM 200MB, CPU 40%
- Same 8 single instruments: RAM 400MB, CPU 50%

PS. The numbers are from Kontakt 2 but I guess Kontakt 3 is similar.
