Playing a track backwards

Yeah,

Record the solo.

Then on another track, duplicate the solo,[option click and drag].

On the duplicate press ctrl click and select convert to new audio file,

which makes the region independant from the original.

Now open the new region audio file in the sample editor by double clicking on it and in the sample editor under functions select reverse.

Now you have the original forward solo and a reverse solo to play around with.

You could re record by sending it to a bus,and creating a new track with the input selected to the bus that you sent the solo to, but the above will achieve the same thing.

Hope that helps.

No. That's wrong.

The whole point of backwards solos is that they are recorded forwards over a backing track that is being played back backwards. This way the guitarist can play to the (now backwards) chord progression.

It used to be a simple matter of turning the tape over, but now we have to do it like this:

1. Bounce down the backing track to stereo and reverse it in the sample editor

2. Play the solo to the reversed backing track

3. Reverse the solo

Remember to keep the locators in the same place for each stage or the tracks won't sync.

Also keep in mind Gilson Lavis's wise words:

"I've never liked backwards ideas. It always sounds like you've run out of forwards ideas."

There's something else you could try too.

1. Record a solo as you would normally.

2. Reverse the solo

3. Learn how to play the solo as it sounds backwards

4. Play the solo backwards!

5. Reverse the solo

That way you get a solo that makes sense musically as you listen to it, but also has the cool reversed effect!

This was done with all the people in the "Black Lodge" in twin peaks too. It's insanely good fun trying it with speech!

Daft's suggestion is also correct, but the original question was Does anyone know of a way to record a guitar solo, play it backwards and re-record it?

The way i suggested also produces a very backward sounding solo,i just did it on a couple of my projects and it works and sounds great.

Horses for courses I think, just have fun with it.

Woodenboy's idea is cool too.
