  1. Hi I have a pair of Alesis Mi Active Mk2 monitors. One's now not working and I'm wondering if I can just buy a new Alesis monitor (the closest one they now make, as my model is now defunct) to replace it and use the old and new together? Or will I just get an incoherent sound? (Sending off the broken one to find out what is wrong and what might need replacing is also an option but could end up being more expensive than buying a new replacement). Many thanks. Juliet
  2. Many thanks. Would I have to reinstall Logic after I've installed the new OS or will it just replace existing OS seamlessly and mesh with all my applications please? Juliet
  3. I have enough power ( 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad Core) and a complex enough version of Logic Pro (8) but it seems my OS (10.5.8) is now finding it difficult to cope with the modern world, and I think an updated OS would help. But I don't want to have to upgrade to a new version of Logic (going from 6 to 8 was headache enough with all it's sophistication). What is the newest OS I can upgrade to and still keep using Logic Pro 8 please? Thank you. Juliet
  4. An 'argosy desk'...well, thank you for the tip. I shall investigate Hope your purchase goes well for you. Juliet
  5. One thing I would like to add....I bought a Mac Pro, but I find the constant noise very irritating, as I work on my own, and write and record all in one room. Wish I'd not got it now. Juliet
  6. Hi I also got the SD09X02.aif not found message when trying to load the Jazz kit.exs - so having read your posts, I reinstalled Logic completely (it wouldn't let me only re-install content) and although that went OK, I still have the exact same problem. My version of Logic is an upgrade from 6 to 8.0.2. - uploaded onto a new Mac Pro. Thank you.
  7. Fabulous! (I was reading the spec from a retailer's site - oops!) That's great. That's so much. Juliet
  8. Thanks for all the info - fab. The only analog instrument I record is my voice. All the other tracks of my songs are created within Logic using ESX24 and Plugsound instruments etc and some imported MIDI drum files. So, in this case, I guess I don't need the extras. On the MAudiophile 2496 soundcard I currently use, I only use the stereo inputs/outputs and MIDI, and then the vocals are recorded through my Mackie mixing desk. So, if I buy a MOTU Ultrlalite 3 with then I shouldn't even need the Mackie, should I? The only thing is 'phantom power ' which I have on the Mackie and need for the mic - I've no idea if the MOTU Ultralite covers this requirement - I don't see 'phatom power' listed on its feature list, but it does have "bus powered. No need for external power" listed. Any idea if that means it will be OK with my mic, please? Thanks again. Juliet
  9. Thanks so much for the reassurance and advice; I'm thinking I won't wait! May I ask a technical question in response to something you said: why is it better to have the ability to get more than 'simple stereo' in and out? Under what circumstances/how does a multi channel interface work better and why, please? (I really am rubbish at the technical stuff!) Thanks again. Juliet
  10. Yes, absolutely anything will be faster than my 733MHz G4 with 1.5 GB RAM! I can't wait to get my new set up. But have been advised to wait til after the MacWorld expo in January as a new Mac Pro is expected, and who knows what else - new iMac?? But I don't know whether this would mean a price drop on the current Mac Pro (which is size overkill for me anyway, so I wouldn't wait just to get a newer, faster one) so I may hang on if I can save lots of dosh. ?? I'm not sure how much the Drive size versus high RAM is more important for running Logic? Nor if having the ability to store stuff like sample libraries on an internal drive is easier/simpler/quicker than having them on my LaCie drive? Does anyone know? If I buy the standard Mac Pro, then I can easily upgrade Driver size, RAM and internal storage, whereas with the iMac, you make the choice of Driver size at point of purchase, then can't upgrade it. And is it easy to do a DIY upgrade from 2 to 4 GB of RAM at a later date with an iMac? I'm not at all technically minded, so this all does my head in, but at least I know that whatever i get it will be considerably BETTER
  11. So, as it's usually just me recording one vocal at a time, then the Mackie could be cut out of the set up? (I'd like to keep it simple.) Thanks, triplets. Juliet
  12. So, if I bought one, along with my iMac, i wouldn't need my Mackie mixing desk, is that right? Thanks. Juliet
  13. Thanks triplets. I see you have a MOTU ultralite - how do you find it? Cheers Juliet
  14. Thank you Shivermetimbers and triplets: I take your point about a control surface, but I'm not recording enough to justify moving on from my mouse. Also, as technology throws me, I have to keep things as simple as possible, which is why I'm nervous about how to get audio and MIDI back and forth: does the Apogee have MIDI input/output? (I see it's on the Apple website as a recommended audio interface). I need to have MIDI for my keyboard as well as Audio for my mic. I'm not sure I understand how if I bought a new multi channel audio/MIDI unit, say MOTU Ultralite (?), why or how I would then use my Mackie Pro mixing desk?? Would you enlighten my ignorance, please Shiv? Sorry, triplets, I didn't mean to disregard your comment about the Pro's silence; I just came across lots of people on the on-line forums who have been getting noise with it. That aside, if I bought one, I would need a new soundcard to put into it as an audio/MIDI interface, wouldn't I, because my current PCI card won't work in it? I get quite confused with all the various permutations; I practically had a nervous breakdown when setting up my first studio in 2002 (which is the same gear I still have now!) Thanks for your help. Juliet
