  1. Perhaps, but I do not see it. I have figured out that, if I ⌘D one of the channel strips that is causing the problem, then move the MIDI region there, the problem goes away, i.e., the new TrackA behaves independently of the TrackB and vice versa. I just cannot see what is causing the issue in the first place, though.
  2. I do not believe that is the problem. Every single track is "No Group". However, looking at Mixer view again, there seems to be some confusion in the VCA section.
  3. I am currently working on a large project (100+ tracks in 14 separate track stacks) and am experiencing an odd problem that I have not encountered before. When I modify one of a few particular tracks (I will call it TrackA), it is changing the same parameter on a completely different track as well (TrackB). For example, if I change the Instrument in TrackA from NI FM8 to AAS String Studio, it changes the instrument in TrackB. Another example is muting TrackA results in the muting TrackB. This is not happening on ALL tracks; this phenomena is always occurring between the same few tracks. It seems like they are, somehow, linked in a way that I did not intend; perhaps I somehow linked them accidentally? They are NOT in the same Stacks, either. Any insight into this would be most appreciated. 2010 Mac Pro macOS Sierra Logic Pro X, 10.4.4
  4. Thanks for replying, triplets. The MP will be less than the iMac (including a USB3 card), unless I opt to go for 12 cores over 6, in which case they will be roughly the same. The warranty on the MP will be a little bit more than AppleCare for the iMac, but that is OK with me for the peace of mind it will provide with purchasing an older piece of gear.
  5. Looking to get a replacement for my completely unstable 2010 MacBook Pro (due to the well-known graphic issues that became really bad AFTER the recall ended), and it is down to two options for me. The 2012 Mac Pro would be a 3.33GHz Intel Xeon 6 core 16GB RAM refurbished by a third-party vendor, while the iMac would be a refurbished 27-inch with 3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 with 8GB RAM refurbished by Apple. I would definitely want to install Sierra on it for the most recent version of Logic. The dealer for the MP does offer a three-year warranty, while I can get AppleCare with the refurbished iMac. One advantage (?) for me with getting the MP is that I already have a Firewire audio interface. I do not know how reliable Thunderbolt-to-Firewire adapters are, so I might have to get a new interface for the iMac. I already have an external monitor that should work with the MP, though I could perhaps replace it later on. I will MOSTLY be running soft synths and doing MIDI on it, but there will be some audio as well. One project I am presently working on, which is approximately 35 minutes long and currently features over one hundred tracks of soft synths (though no samples), simply WILL NOT PLAY on my MBP; there is too much going on and playback screeches to a halt less than one minute in (most of the time, anyway). I do not expect this to be typical of future projects , but it establishes a hurdle I want to be able to cross. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  6. Well, I'll tell you what I ended up doing, but I can't tell you what I screwed it up the first time! I started the lesson over, and had no problem performing the Control-Option zoom procedure exactly as the book describes. I deleted the original project, so if I'd done something to screw it up, I can't tell you what, nor can I re-create it.
  7. Thanks David. I am trying to make the blue rectangle exactly the same size as is pictured in the book but, no matter how tall OR how squat I make it, the vertical is not zooming at all; it is remaining exactly the same.
  8. Hi. Just got David Nahmani's book and I am working on the first lesson. In the Zooming In to Edit the Intro section, step four (page 30), it describes the procedure for zooming in on a portion of the selected region. However, when I perform the Control-Option-drag action and create a small blue rectangle as described, it is only zooming in horizontally. The photo in the book clearly shows an workspace view that is expanded both horizontally AND vertically, with the stereo nature of the tracks clearly visible; for me, however, I am only stretching out the regions. I already know how to zoom by using the sliders, but want to be able to do it this way as well. What am I doing incorrectly? --------------------------------------------- 2010 Macbook Pro, Logic 10.2.2, Focusrite Saffire interface
  9. Yeah, that's what most people are saying. Certainly, I can upgrade to a SSD later, while I'll never be able to upgrade the processor. Thanks.
  10. I'm in the market for a new MacBook Pro, and am trying to decide between a 13" and a 15". If I get the 13", I'll be able to afford to upgrade to a SSD, but if I go with the 15", I'll have to go with the base model. Do the advantages gained by going SSD outweigh those of the i5 processor, or vice versa? I mostly record 1 or 2 tracks at a time live, with VSTs or other audio tracks added later, rarely more than 16 total; I also will be using this for other typical computer applications. In addition, I do have an external monitor, so the size of the screen isn't a primary issue. Thanks in advance.
  11. I know this is mostly a Pro user's forum, but I've been unable to locate on Apples's site a feature comparison between Pro 8 and Express 8 - has anyone run across run? Thanks in advance.
  12. Thanks yoink, that's pretty much exactly what I wanted to hear. If it DOESN'T accept unbalanced outs, what would be entailed in adapting?
  13. I have a Focusrite Saffire firewire interface that, so far, I've only used with headphones. I'll soon be hooking it up to an old AMC 3050 stereo amp and B&W speaker setup for monitoring. I'll be using this setup until I can pony up the cash for some dedicated studio monitors. Problem is, the Saffire only has TRS jack outputs, and the AMC amp only has RCA plug-type inputs. Will this be as simple as just having adapter plugs , or will some other type of conversion be required? Thanks in advance.
