  1. I think the most interesting part of this is the round-trip between iPad and macOS. It will be interesting to see what their vision for this feature is. It might lead naturally to multi-user remote collaboration tools, which would be great. The biggest challenge with device sync (and also with multi-user collaboration) is when one of the systems is missing some of the plugins. This will be especially true when syncing between iOS and macOS, because the plugin ecosystems are so different. One solution to this would be bounce or freeze tracks - which is normally a lot of work (and waiting). I would love it if Logic would transparently bounce or freeze all my instruments and effects (as a low priority background task) for every project I work on and then when opening a project on another device it would use the audio track alternatives when the plugin is not available. Of course, I expect their initial version will just sync the project file to iCloud and let us do the manual work ourselves 😀
  2. You can set the left and right locators around the section you want to move. Then choose Edit -> Cut/Insert Time -> Cut Section Between Locators (Control + Command X) to cut the section. Then move the Playhead to the beginning of the project and choose Edit -> Cut/Insert Time -> Insert Section at Playhead (Control + Command V). This should move everything that was between the locators to the beginning of the project. You could also use Arrangement markers: Set up one arrangement marker for the first 24 bars and then an arrangement marker for the part you want to move. Then drag the second arrangement marker so that it is before the first.
  3. It's a little hard to see in the capture I made, but I think it doesn't work when the clip is focused? When I click away from the clip so it's not focussed, then the gain tool works. As I say, it's finicky.... Gah - maybe I just ended up focusing the take instead of the folder? I could have sworn this worked earlier today when the folder was not disclosed though...
  4. Ah, ok, thanks. I see that happening now in audio take folders. I can't find the velocity changes made by the tool with MIDI take folders. I would expect it to be in the Velocity parameter of the individual take regions, but it's not there.
  5. MIDI volume would definitely be more analogous to gain than MIDI velocity is. Velocity changes the timbre of the notes. But I guess the product decision they made is that they expect this tool to be used to even out uneven performances: the singer sang this phrase too loudly, the pianist played that phrase too quietly. In that case, velocity makes sense. It's just not as useful to me personally as MIDI gain would be. I see your point that the edge cases would make the implementation messy, but I think it would still be a good feature.
  6. I am finding it very finicky. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I just noticed that when I drag with the tool on the top part of the clip/region/folder, it seems to work. But not when I drag anywhere else.
  7. I have noticed that you can use the gain tool on take folders as well as plain regions. Nifty! It also works on Midi regions on instrument tracks (yay!). But it changes velocity instead of gain (boo!). Anybody know how to change this tool to affect the gain of the instrument? I can't find anything in the Sefferences. Also, when it changes the velocity for a MIDI region, you can see the velocity value change in the region's inspector. But when you're working on a take folder - where is it stored? I can't find it.
  8. It is an interesting workflow idea, and it would allow organizing instruments into categories instead of one big flat list. I didn't realize this, but creating a layer in the environment creates a corresponding sub-menu in the "Reassign Track" menu. Dragging and dropping from the environment to the arrange window is an interesting idea, but it's too much mousing for me. I prefer a keyboard-based workflow
  9. OMG - that's fantastic! You have saved me so much time! Thank you! (I still support the feature request to make it more discoverable)
  10. Yeah, that makes sense if the track is available in the current view. When I'm inside a folder (not a track stack, but a classic folder), I often don't have the track available, so I have to create a new track (or duplicate a track in the folder) and then reassign.
  11. I can't find the shortcut for stopping a bounce that is in progress - does anybody know what it is?
  12. Logic has the ability for regions to display their own individual color, or to display the color of the track they are on. The preference for this is here: Like most people, I color tracks to indicate which type of instrument they are (bass, drums, strings, etc.). But I also color regions individually as a part of song organization. For me it is to indicate which part of a song the regions are in (verse, chorus, etc.). I've seen other people use region-specific colors for other purposes. What is missing is the ability to quickly toggle region color between "Individual" and "As Track Color". You can dig into the preferences, but it's a lot of clicks (unless you automate with something like Keyboard Maestro). It would be great to be able to toggle this setting with a Key Command.
  13. Digital Performer has this great spotlight-style command search, where you can search for commands by name and then run them instantly: The benefits of this are: instantly run any Key Command - including those that are not mapped to any key access Key Commands that are only available as Key Commands (not in any menu) discover new key commands
  14. Often I have a bunch of plugins already loaded in a project and I want to change an existing track to use an existing plugin. The way to do this is to right click, "Reassign Track" and then dive into some of the menus. This is pretty cumbersome and time consuming. It would be great if there were key commands for the following: Reassign Track (Software Instrument) Reassign Track (Audio) Reassign Track to Next Channel (Software Instrument) Reassign Track to Previous Channel (Software Instrument) Reassign Track to Next Channel (Audio) Reassign Track to Previous Channel (Audio)
  15. I like @sambosun's mock up with filtering. It would be great to just steal some additional track filtering ideas from Digital Performer. In DP, in addition to filtering tracks by name, you can also hide or show tracks based on all sorts of criteria: track type (Instrument, MIDI, Audio, AUX, etc.), whether the track is empty or contains content, etc. Logic already has the ability to select tracks based on certain criteria: All Unused Same-Colored Instrument MIDI Audio Drummer Aux Sub/VCA Summing Stack Folder Stack Folder It would be great to add: Used Used (within locators) Unused (within locators) Enabled (Track On) Disabled (Track Off) Right now, acting on filtered track selection in Logic is pretty clunky. To show only empty tracks, you have to: Select all Tracks Toggle Show/Hide until they all appear Select Tracks -> Unused Invert Selection Toggle Show/Hide So it would be great if in addition to selecting tracks using the Track criteria, a user could also do the following: Deselect Hide Show Show Only This would allow for very powerful track filtering.
