  1. Thanks des99, that sounds perfect.
  2. My 2013 iMac is very slow these days so I am looking into a new machine and am interested in a Mac Mini. It has been suggested to me that I can save money by buying a TV instead of a monitor from Apple and that certainly seems accurate. Is anyone out there doing this? Is there any drawback?
  3. Hey there, A few months ago I used varispeed to create a slightly faster version of something I was working on. I just got back to it and decided to overdub some vocals. I seem to have accidentally written in tempo changes from 105.0021 to 105.0012, and then back to 105.0021 again. I was hoping I could simply delete the "nodes" and get the tempo back to 105.0012 (the tempo I actually want) but it doesn't seem to work that way. In my experimenting I created another erroneous tempo change to 105.0021. What's the best way to straighten this out? Thanks, Andy
  4. Thanks guys. I went ahead and tried my idea and it went well, except for one track I had some volume automation on. That automation is nothing difficult to recreate, so I'm going to delete it and then re-do it once the track is at a comparable volume level to all the others. I didn't think of inserting a gain plug-in on the stereo out. That's a cool trick. I never insert plug-ins on the main to, but why not? So, it wasn't too hard to fix the mess Id made, but I will definitely give gain staging more attention when tracking in the future!
  5. I know, I'm supposed to be careful and organized about gain staging, but usually I don't think about it too much, and everything works out all right. Now I have a project with numerous tracks and effects, and some automation, and the output meter really slams into the red. I like the basic mix and I don't want to start over, so my thought (and please let me know if this is insane, or if there is a better way to approach it) is to create a group for all the tracks, choose "volume" in group settings, and then pull everything down, so that the relative levels are kept intact, but I can put the master output level back up to 0. Does this make sense? Should I bounce all the tracks first, so the newly created tracks will be at unity, or is that just extra work? Thanks, Andy
  6. David (and anyone else reading) I figured it out. Simple solution, as usual. I did a test project where Quantize was working the way it always does for me, took a screen shot of the Piano Roll menu bar and Quantize parameters, then I compared the settings in the screen shot to those in my project. I discovered I had the "strength" parameter turned off completely. Moved the slider back up to 100% and all is good!
  7. You can see the entire Quantize control panel is greyed out. The C1 kick is selected properly, and it, and the Center Snare are audible when I play the region. And you can see that, although I've selected a region, it says there are none selected. I opened a new project and didn't have this issue, fyi.
  8. Hi all, I just created a few measures of a drum part and tried to quantize it and nothing happened. The notes wouldn't move when I selected them and hit the Q button. I deleted what I had and started over, and now I hear what I keyed in but I don't see visual representation in the Piano Roll. I'm using the Retro Rock Kit. I've never had any trouble doing this before and I'm not sure where to start looking. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks, Andy
  9. Do you know of any blind people who record themselves? My cousin, who I actually don’t know that well, has asked me for advice on how to get started. I think his budget is probably fairly low. I’m not sure where to begin. Any suggestions on software and/or devices that might be a good bet for him?
  10. I didn't try that, but I'll tell you what just happened: I opened up a project and was able to scroll horizontally just fine. I closed that project and opened up another and it also worked. Then I opened up a third one and scrolling horizontally didn't work! I went back to the previous projects and was once again able to scroll any way I wanted. So, maybe there is something in the preferences for each project that is set differently? I don't have time to investigate at the moment, but I thought I'd fire this off to see if anyone had suggestions about where to look when I get back into my studio. Thanks!
  11. Atlas007, I have all the mouse system options checked too, but horizontal scrolling still doesn't work. What else could be the problem? This was happening with my old Magic Mouse, but I assumed it was just worn out. It used to easily disconnect if I bumped it into my keyboard. Anyway, I want to get to the bottom of the horizontal scrolling issue!
  12. Mouse preferences, that is. I wouldn't expect it to be in Logic prefs.
  13. Is it me, or has the ability to scroll horizontally along the timeline gone missing? My original Magic Mouse has been acting up in various ways, so I bought a Magic Mouse 2 and although it's an improvement, it doesn't do this and I don't see the feature listed in preferences. Thanks, Andy
  14. That was it - the MIDI Out button! Thanks!
  15. Hi all. That's my current issue, right there in the subject line. Ordinarily I click on a key in the keyboard at the side of the piano roll, or I might click directly on the note in the piano roll, and I can hear the sound of the note. For some reason this isn't working now. My MIDI controller works fine - I can play and enter notes, and I can edit them with all the usual parameters. I just can't hear my editing choices without playing the particular section of the project I'm working on. Not practical for me! My go-to fix for MIDI stuff (reset all MIDI parameters) isn't helping on this one. I've looked in Preferences but haven't found an answer for this. I'm not sure where else to look! Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks, Andy
