  1. haha try pulling up on the faders...or maybe don't.
  2. Axiom Pro is another story. That things solid as a rock. But have you felt up the regular Axiom? Its knobs click, faders stick, buttons pop off. I mean, I just bought one, but just saying...
  3. mpk feels more solid to me. the regular axiom is cheap feeling, but you can't beat the price.
  4. you'll never outgrow an sm-57. you'll outgrow the 990 by next week.
  5. haha damned monkey! tried ground lifting every piece in the chain to no effect, and my audio stuff is the only thing going into the socket. I'm not sure whether ground loops can happen between sockets? i live in an apartment and i'm starting to think that this hum could well be from my neighbors on the same circuit or some such.. by going from line to mic im attenuating around 50 db... so any little thing is gonna show up. I've heard a good rule of thumb with power conditioners is that if you can lift it, its not conditioning your power. has anyone installed one of these and benefited noticeably?
  6. Im running into noise issues with a weird setup that might sound unnecessary- but hang with me anyway.. I've got a 60 cycle hum probably caused by either a ground loop- or due to the fact that I'm monkeying with impedences and ruining my signal to noise ratio, making a minor hum more apparent. signal chain is: d/a converter at line level -> active direct box set to line level (lo-z) in, mic level out -> neve clone from 7th circle audio. The purpose of this is to get the color from the 7th circle preamp on to digital synth tracks. It sounds beautiful were it not for the noise issue. Where should I start trouble shooting this? are all these impedance switches from big to small to big again just inherently a bad idea?
  7. Does it print the channel effects? What about the master bus? using logic 8
  8. thanks lagerfeldt. I wish i knew the goals of mastering compression. my infantile guess is to set the attack fast enough to tame some transients to the tune of 2-3 decibels, and set the release to groove on the quarter note. am i being vague again? i want to ramble off mastering questions, but i suppose this is useless. the only answers i've been getting from our engineers are, "i dunno, depends on the song" which is probly true... i just wish i could squeeze some guiding principles out of somebody. ah well, not your problem!
  9. in my bedroom, I have 3 mattresses set up like gobos. 8) Get creative with couch cushions, packing blankets, and walk in closets, whatever you can get your hands on. it'll be a lot cheaper, and probly more effective. we have some se reflexion filters at our real studio, but no one really ever uses them. seems to freak some singers out. i dont think they do that great a job either, but definitely better than nothing.
  10. depends on the singer really.. when i record the singer of my band, i wont use anything BUT an sm57. it just flatters his voice perfectly. don't just assume b/c its cheap its useless. but the M-audio Sputnik is right in that range and works really well on some singers too.
  11. haha i suck at stating audio questions clearly... *clears throat* How many decibels are appropriate to reduce in a master limiter in the genre errr, "beat driven electronic pop"? P.S.: im peaking at -.3
  12. I'm putting the final touches on my mix...electronic beat, synths, swirly sounds... was wondering how many decibels you would take down. any takers?
  13. my gf yells at me for a song and i make one quickly to shut her up
