  1. Hi ppl, i am trying to remove some digital clipping from a track with the sample editor...i am wondering how logics sample editor compares to other programs? what other features are in other sample editors that are missing in logic? I was thinking that there should be something more than the pencil tool. for example its really hard to draw nice curves with it - shouldn't there be some auto curve/round off peaks function etc? removing clipping must be a pretty common function. you can do curves for automation why not for samples! anyway just after ppls thoughts...any other good sample editors for os x? cheers
  2. thanks! thought about it, maybe when i get more time but at the moment I'm just trying to put up different techniques... I put them all into the exs and if you have a velocity sensitive keyboard then the exs plays them at different volumes..
  3. hi ppl, I just put up some free high quality violin samples on the web. whack 'em in your esx 24! search for user ldk1609 over at www.freesound.org note - the freesound audio player previews audio at reduced quality, the downloaded file will be ok. btw for those of you wondering about the quality of the apogee duet, there you go (albeit with earthworks mics). enjoy Leo

  5. actually, the limiters work on the master out channel strip, but not the individual track channel strips...weird. any reason why?
  6. hey ppl, I am trying to push up the gain of a track using the limiter or adaptive limiter. despite setting the output max at 0db the track still clips in the channel strip meter. the audio itself was not recorded clipped and the limiter is the only thing in the signal chain.... the only thing I can think of is that the limiter takes a bit of time to kick in so misses the initial clip at the start of a peak. but doesn't that defeat the purpose of a limiter? any ideas? thanks
  7. ok thanks! I think i'll just try riding the gain and adjusting levels with automation because I'm mainly doing classical stuff...but thanks for the posts! cheers Leo
  8. ah ok then.... but how does the amplitude of the waveform affect the timbre? I thought only changing equalisation ie the frequency affected the harmonics and therefore thee timbre of the sound? I can understand how on an instrument hitting it with difference forces will produce different timbres, but how does that work with sound already recorded?
  9. Hi guys, does a compressor simply reduce the peaks of the signal, then brings up the soft parts (without shaping) when you push the (output) gain up. or does a compressor perform the shaping effects on the peaks and then also (in reverse) on soft parts which fall below a threshold? then you adjust gain ie is it top only or top and bottom where shaping is applied? also how much does compression change the timbre or something? I know it is used to fatten drums, does that mean if used too much on something more (timbre-ally) delicate like voice it would begin to sound a bit unnatural? I guess i should experiment and find out! cheers
  10. hi! I have been stupid - the clicks are actually in the original wav files! i guess because i normally click on them to play them the mouse clicks were covering up the audio clicks. I wasn't listening carefully enough! But is still doesn't make sense. one lot of files are smooth from zero crossings and there is no clicking. another lot are from zero crossings and they do click. If the waveforms start smoothly from zero crossings, why would they click?? I have set the buffer max to 1024, and have a macbook pro is it possible my interface can't handle it even so? there is definitely no distortion happening levels wise.
  11. for some reason the ahdsr controls don't work for key release group 2 samples , only for the group 1 key down samples. any ideas? what does h in adsr mean too - its not in the manual! Even though the clicks are not in the original wav file....I had a thought that because they are stereo tracks when I searched for zero crossings the feature would stuff up since each (mono of stereo) track crosses the zero at slightly different times. This turned out to be true, i could see when one track was at zero, the other was slightly off - maybe this was the click? So i redrew with the pencil tool in the sample editor each track to zero at exactly the same time...but still the click on key release!! I think modifying the attack for the group 2 key release samples might work (tried that before but didn't realise it wasn't working). any ideas for why its not working? cheers Leo
  12. sorry for the late reply! and thanks for replying no its not an envelope issue or a zero crossings one, and there are key release samples because the samples are church pipe organs, and the reverb tails for each note in the nice church acoustic are triggered on key release. looks like other people have had the same problem http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1986825 Pretty dissapointing because this was the main reason I upgraded from logic express, to get a full featured sampler. The organ samples cost a lot too. the clicks are too noticeable to use so i'm stuck with just using the key down samples and sticking some crappy reverb on it.
  13. Hey all, I have some organ samples loaded into the esx24, there is one sample for key down and one for key release. All the wav files are edited at zero crossings, however there is a slight click/pop when I release the key, which then triggers the 2nd sample. Any ideas on how to get rid of it?? They are not in the original wavs so must come from the esx 24. Has anyone else experienced this? It has got nothing to do with the buffer setting. Also i have tried fiddling with crossfade parameters in the esx24 but that doesn't work.... cheers Leo
  14. I got pro today and did exactly as you said - it works! awesome so the conversion process kept the key off samples but the decay was too small. thanks for replying! cheers
  15. that is, logic express manual....downloaded the pro one and it was in there, and a whole lot more that is also applicable to express users - weird. cheers
