  1. When I select a MIDI region and hit convert -> separate by note pitch, the resulting new tracks are somehow connected to each other. If I mute one, they all mute; if I pan one, they all pan, etc. It's like they've been automatically created into a group - but they're not. Any ideas? My workaround has been to create new tracks and move them into those, but that's becoming a headache. Thanks for your help.
  2. I see! So it's only an issue if bussing a submix manually, and is NOT an issue when using a summing track stack. Thanks
  3. Thanks. I tried disconnecting the MIDI In from the TD-8 and that didn't work. I'll buy a new MIDI to USB cable and check to see if that's the issue. Unfortunately my interface does not have MIDI in. What's odd is that I've had a similar issue with a USB keyboard and running Logic on a different machine, where sometimes notes on the keyboard (which is fairly new) get "stuck" in the Piano roll and continue for many bars. I chalked it up to the keyboard at the time (maybe something about the MIDI "note off" info not being sent properly).
  4. Hi Polanoid - you're correct! That's not what I thought or expected, but I created a new project and ran an "experiment" like the one you posted and I didn't have the issue. I found this video, though, which does replicate the issue:
  5. Hi, I tried recording from a Roland TD-8 digital drum kit into Logic. I connected the Roland directly into my computer using a MIDI to USB cable. When I recorded the drums, there were numerous instances of extra MIDI notes recorded. For instance, when recording a simple four on the floor bass drum, there would be instances of double bass notes. I confirmed that it was not the drummer, and not due to the sensitivity setting. I also noticed that some notes seemed to last too long, i.e., note length was multiple bars long. Has this happened to anyone before using Logic?
  6. Thanks. The issue is with post-fader sends, since the fader level affects the amount of the sends. If you create a Track Stack and then adjust the fader on the master track for the stack, the amount of post-fader sends on the individual tracks within the stack doesn't change. So say you turn down the fader on the master track for the stack, and the stack contains a vocal track with a post-fader reverb send. By turning down the fader on the track stack, you make the vocal quieter, but the vocal will sound proportionally wetter because the reverb send on the individual vocal track is not also being lowered.
  7. If you route multiple channel strips to an aux track, (i.e., create a submix [or is it more properly called a subgroup?], or create a summing track stack), and some of the individual channel strips utilize post-fader sends for effects like reverb, then you hit a problem when trying to adjust the level of the submix in the overall mix: When you change the fader for the aux track (or the master track in the summing track stack), you change the volume of the submix but not the volume of the effects send. So, for example, if you lower the fader on the submix, then you lower the volume of the submix but the reverb on the individual channel strips will sound more prominent than it did before. As I understand it, the solution is to either stop using effects sends...or use a VCA group on those same channel strips. My question is, how precisely do you use the VCA group to avoid the problem described above? i.e., after lowering the fader on the aux track for you submix, would you then also lower the fader on the VCA? So would that be the workflow: after adjusting an aux fader, make a similar adjustment on the VCA? It sounds a little clunky, which is why I'm asking. Also, can anyone provide some real examples of how you use aux tracks and VCAs together when mixing a project? In my amateurish mixes, I use a summing track stack for guitars and a summing track stack for vocals, and I use post-fader sends for reverb and delay on the individual channel strips (and might want to experiment with parallel compression in the future), but I have not been using VCAs. Lastly, I understand that folder track stacks are the same or functionally equivalent to VCA groups. If this is true, then are mix engineers who use Logic somehow employing both summing track stacks and folder track stacks for the same channel strips to deal with the problem described above? Note: there is a high chance that I am misunderstanding something fundamental here because I'm relatively new to this. I do read the manual. Many thanks!
  8. Hi - is this still the best way to name busses? Set Logic to automatically choose busses above a certain number, say 64, and create an organized list for numbers before that, like recommended above? (I might also leave 1-15 blank in case I load up older projects that preceded the new naming approach). I'm new to mixing and Logic and find it hard to navigate the mixer when the busses are numbered, rather than named. Thanks.
  9. I see, thanks! The manual is incorrect. I just sent Apple feedback on it. Thanks again, David.
  10. How do I use the "Suspend Content Connection option" to just delete all the arrangement markers and start fresh? I cannot understand the manual's instructions: "In Logic Pro, Control-click the title Arrangement in the arrangement track header, then choose Suspend Content Connection from the shortcut menu that appears." Where do I Control-click? I realize this is sacrilegious, but I just cannot seem to understand the Logic user guide. I try.

    MIDI oddity

Thanks, I'll check out that program. No sustain pedal. My first thought was that the new (inexpensive) keyboard is faulty. I saw something online regarding a keyboard not sending a MIDI note off signal. But the problem in my case seems to be limited to one particular Logic project. Haven't been able to replicate it in another project.

    MIDI oddity

Hi - has anyone had a problem recording a MIDI keyboard live into Logic Pro and the note lengths being way too long? I'm using a MIDI keyboard to record drums and some of the notes seem to get "stuck" and record at 4 or 5 bars in length, rather than a 16th note or 8th note. I'm using a new M-Audio Keystation. Thanks!
  13. I just saw Atlas007's response...that might be the trick! Thanks; very helpful. I am still surprised that the arpeggiator doesn't do that by default. Or maybe I am just too focused on being able to see the notes, rather than just rely on my ears....
  14. Correct - and thanks! I am still curious whether folks here use some method to get the actual notes of the arpeggio into a MIDI region so that they can more closely manipulate and use the arpeggio in the arrangement. I find it odd to not be able to see the notes when recording a MIDI region using the arpeggiator.
