  1. Just get one of these: http://www.cecompass.com/minidvitohdmiadaptercableforappleimacmacbookpowerbook.aspx I have a couple, they work fine on my 40" HDTV. I still prefer to use a monitor myself, but if your TV can be worked in to your setup effectively, why not? Anyway, it's great for watching movies and videos on your TV from the computer...
  2. I think everyone's forgetting that logic1 told us that he's not used a computer before to make music. So he won't be familiar with the term "bounce." Logic1, looking at the arrange window, in the upper right hand corner you'll see some icons. Bounce, colors, lists, media. Push Bounce. "Bounce" is the term DAWs use for exporting your project to an audio file (wav, mp3 etc) or making a cd of it. A dialog window will come up. In the lower half, where it says "Destination," make sure PCM, MP3, and M4A: AAC are unchecked. Check "Burn: CDDA" Make sure that the "Start" and "End" measure numbers match with where you want the burned song to begin and end. I don't usually burn CDs directly out of logic, so I'm not sure about choosing realtime or offline. I'd go with realtime. Leave Normalize unchecked. Use some kind of dithering if your project is in something other than 44.1Khz/16 bit. Hit the Burn button in the bottom right corner. Page 603 of the manual (using the bounce window) will explain all this better. And pg 611 has the burn options. Good luck, Brent
  3. Make sure you have any Stealth-type settings on your browser turned off, and that you have cookies enabled.
  4. Hi David. I wonder if you could explain this a little more. I have a few female vocal tracks which have some problems with sibilance and don't really care for the sound with the de-esser either. The vocal is the main point of the recording, so I'm happy to do whatever it takes, just not sure how the approach you mention would work. Thanks.
  5. Try this: Open the automation view and select the track you want to adjust (in your case, the master, so you need to have it showing in the arrange). Then cmd-drag the yellow value fader up or down to adjust. This'll scale the overall volume up or down, while preserving any automation you have in the track (so your fade will still be there). I might not be explaining well, but if you just watch the automation in the track as you adjust, you'll get the idea.
  6. Hi Ants. ChicoSatis' reply was exactly correct. It's not a workaround, it's "the way things are done." Looking at your steps, when you get to "select the track," reach up and put the cursor in the top area of the arrange window, where the ruler is. click and drag from where you want the bounce to start, until where you want it to end. You should end up with a green line over that area. This is how you select the area to bounce, unless you want to bounce everything, or adjust it in the bounce window, which as you mentioned, is a pain. Camillo Jr's advice about using fade ins and outs is also important, especially with vinyl, which will have maybe a high noise floor. just look in the manual at automation, if you're not familiar. David's great book explains all this in detail, of course. You might find a program like Audacity would work well too, and you could just chop things up, quickly add fades, and save your tracks. There are also utilities like AudioSlicer for cutting up MP3s that you could check out. I find Logic's way of doing things to be fine for me, but Audacity's way may suit you better. And it's free. Good luck with the LPs
  7. Fader8's method works for me too. And Protools 6.7 certainly has BWF, so I think 6.9 ought to also. I just wanted to add that I had a problem using the Move to Original position command when importing from protools in the past, and it turned out to be because the default smpte setting for the start of a project in Logic is 01:00:00:00.00 After I set the project to start at 00:00:00:00.00 (Project settings>synchronization>general) everything lined up fine.
  8. OK. On the UA-25, there's a volume knob to the left of the headphone output, the label below it says DIRECT MONITOR. Turn that to zero. Do you hear any sound? If you don't, then you're just hearing the microphone through the direct monitor in the interface, which has nothing to do with sound coming in or out of logic. Now, check the channel strip of the track you want to record. In the slot under I/O, select Input 1 or Input 2, to correspond to which input on the UA-25 you have the mic plugged into. Press the R button on the channel strip or in the arrange window to record-arm the track. At this point, you should see movement in the meters when you make a sound into the mic. Adjust the SENS knob (on the UA-25) to get more input level, when the peak/limiter light comes on, you've maybe gone too far. Press the record button and see if you get anything. I hope it works out. Basically, I suspect you've forgotten to record-arm the track, or most likely, you haven't chosen the right input on your channel strip.
  9. Hey Jeff, I'm glad it worked out for you, and that you posted how you solved the problem for the next guy to find. Good luck, Logic's a blast. Brent
  10. From http://www.sweetwater.com/feature/garageband/ : To make Digi hardware available to GarageBand, do the following: 1. Start the Digidesign CoreAudio Setup application 2. Click the Supported Applications button in the resulting Digidesign CoreAudio Setup window 3. Click the [Add New Application] button in the window that appears 4. Navigate to the [GarageBand] application, and click Choose. 5. Your Digi hardware will now be available from the [Audio/MIDI] tab within GarageBand's Preferences window! I did this for a friend who uses garageband, but I'm sure it's the right process for Logic too, just replace Garageband with Logic.
