  1. Doesn’t playback fade out on Stop if you have super high latency in a session? I feel like I have heard Logic doing this when I’m in very high latency mastering sessions. If so, you could emulate that by adding instances of that free Voxengo latency simulator. It will require some inconvenience though with all that latency. I do wish they’d let the user control this…
  2. I’m not recording. I left it on after recording and attempted to edit the event in a docked Piano Roll. That’s when I realized in this case that having Replace mode enabled will cause the notes to be invisible after playing even though the region is still selected. No idea why.
  3. This may not be the OP's situation but I noticed that if Replace mode is engaged this happens. I'm not sure if it's a bug or not. It's really annoying when I forget... sometimes I wish Logic was a piece of hardware simply so I could write "TURN OFF REPLACE" in the Piano Roll!
  4. That’s a reason to do it sparingly, but the bigger one for me is the latency can’t/won’t be re-compensated so it will go out of sync. I do it with zero latency plugins only, and only when there’s no better way to bypass the effect.
  5. Automating the internal bypass parameters is a much better choice. My money's on this or leaving the original drums on.
  6. Hard to say without seeing your mixer routing and what inserts are located where. After 10.8 I tested it and it was fixed in most of the situations I personally encountered it, but I know from others users there are still some situations where PDC is an issue. It's interesting that you're getting the issue when Bouncing in Place, because I think Bouncing in Place and Selection Based Processing have their own issues with PDC separate from the bus/track side-chain ones they fixed. Who's to blame? Ultimately the DAW developer. The remaining issues may stem from Logic's longstanding way of not compensating the latency for a track feeding the side-chain of a latency inducing plug-in. Is it going to get fixed? No idea. Do other DAWs have this problem? I'm not sure. I know Studio One and Ableton have their own situations where their PDC can behave illogically. I don't ever recall it being an issue in Pro Tools or Cubase.
  7. It’s usually not stuff like that. are you automating any bypasses? This latency doesn’t (always?) get re-compensated during bounces so it could cause phasing for part of a song I suppose. are you using Flex Time at all? This can be problematic with drum multitracks sometimes.
  8. It’s not something I do based on concerns of CPU power, but there have been times where I did this with Freezing as a troubleshooting method and it helped me find the real issue pretty well. In my case it led me to a Dual Mono instance of Slate MetaTune. That revealed the bug where the first bounce of Dual Mono plugins doesn’t properly account for latency if you haven’t opened the plugin GUI so far in that session.
  9. All I can add to this is since 10.8 I’ve had a small number of my projects do similar things where the metronome would get changed to a different instrument or be deleted altogether without my action. In one instance a bunch of other channels switched inserts and instruments. Projects can get very unstable when the metronome channel is messed with or deleted, too… I haven’t seen it since I switched to Rosetta mode (could be a coincidence), so I’m not sure what causes it. There’s a chance it was related to this bug:
  10. ARA stands for Audio Random Access. It only works with audio.
  11. Melodyne ARA only works with audio tracks. You will have to bounce audio tracks from your virtual instrument to do this.
  12. There’s a few ways. I don’t think how you’re working is inefficient. I work in a similar way. Logic has a lot of ways to approach this. The only downside (in my opinion) is I find using a blend of the tools to be better than any one of them. You can save and recall Comps with the drop down menu of the Take Folder. That way after recording you can easily go back to your previous Comp. You can use the auto punch system, Replace, or Quick Punch-In where you’re pressing record while playing. That does minimal damage to your Active Comp and doesn’t require juggling Comps. Or you can convert the Take Folder with your current Comp to Track Alternatives with the Take Folder dropdown menu. It will create a Track Alternative for the Active Comp and then create individual Alternatives for the takes. This makes working with a new recording using the previously mentioned punch-in tools more like working on a fresh track without the quirks that come with Take Folders. If you create a new Take Folder on the same track, you can always convert it again and it will add the takes as new Alternatives. I use a combination of these methods depending on what I need to do. Generally I try to convert to Track Alternatives as soon as I have the beginnings of a Comp. I just find it easier at that point.
  13. Aside from automation which @wonshu mentioned - which occurs fixed points and will probably impact some mixer functions - all methods I can think of for doing this all within Logic are going to run into some problems with focus. There aren't commands that can make that switch in a way that won't collide with you moving around the DAW and mixing. If you want to do something like this without hardware Rogue Amoeba's Audio Hijack is probably the best bet. You can setup things in its Editor that will toggle between Logic's audio and something else, and you can run it with really basic scripts. https://rogueamoeba.com/support/knowledgebase/?showArticle=AH-Scripting-Center
