  1. I know this thread was from a looooong time ago but had a similar question. Is it possible to have 2 keyboards and change patches for each on the fly, without needing to pre-write or pre-determine the patches? I sometimes need to be playing a piano/rhodes on the bottom and may have the need for either horns, strings, or synth on top depending on the moment.... and then with the bottom keyboard to B3 or something. How are people handling this in MainStage 3.3? Thanks in advance for any input.
  2. Hi All, - LogicPro 10 - MacPro 3,1 (2008... yes, I know - but it's been rock solid) - OS 10.8.x - 14gb RAM - 7200rpm SATA Drives Scoring a movie and having a problem that I haven't run into before; When I play my session from the top, the sync is perfect and stays locked. When I want to start from a couple or few minutes in, then the dialogue audio plays fine (it's exported from the QT into the session) but the picture remains frozen. Every once in a while it will catch up and work ok, but for the most part it just stays frozen and I can't watch the video with my score. The film is in 5 reels given to me as QT files and each is between 15-17 minutes. Project specs are: 23.97fr video 48k/24bit audio The score is not that thick... maybe 8-10 instruments at any one time so I know the RAM isn't an issue. As a possible solution, I have ordered SSD drives and mounting trays from OWC and I plan to transfer my files to those and install them tomorrow. Since they are so much faster than 7200rpm drives, it should help the problem I would think. Again, this is something I haven't encountered much before but the last film I scored was about 2 years ago (everything was fine then) so maybe the drives are just getting old and full. Any input, comments, or ideas are welcomed and appreciated.
  3. Correct... in the bin (audio browser) it will select the REGIONS of the FILES that are unused. It will NOT select the region/portion of the file that IS used. Then... 1. I move the unused files to a folder I have called UNUSED PROJECT AUDIO. 2. I then hit DELETE while they are still selected. This is where it goes wrong.... 3. It will delete anything that had any portion of the file selected as unused - even if PART of that file was being used. I've been wrestling with this for a while but need to sort it out. Thanks so much for your response David - I really appreciate your time and expertise!
  4. Hi, I have used Logic since Emagic 2.0 so I feel like an idiot asking this but here goes... After I'm done tracking and want to delete my unused audio files something is not behaving as in the past. Say I have a guitar part and I used 8 bars of a 16 bar take. Logic Creates 2 regions called Guitar#01.1 and Guitar#01.2 as it always has. These are from the SAME audio file. I'm only using Guitar#01.1 in the Arrange/Tracks window. When I go to the bin and Select Unused Audio to move and then delete them, it selects Guitar#01.2 as expected. BUT, when I go to actually delete the unused audio, it deletes the entire audio file. In the past if a fragment of any audio file was in the Arrange/Tracks window, it wouldn't get selected in the Select Unused Audio command. I tried CLEAN UP in project management but nothing happened when I clicked OK. This is really a pain in the ass and I wonder what other people have done to work around this. Thanks in advance for any input or help. Chris LogicPro 10.0.6
  5. I'm sure this is an idiot question but I can't seem to solve it. MacBook Pro 13" os10.7.5 Mainstage 2.1.3 M-Audio Keystation 88es (also tried a 49es) connected via USB cable Several different sustain pedals including an M-Audio brand No sustain pedal will work and I can't seem to set a mapping control to make it work. The keys play fine and octave shift works as well. Ideas and thoughts are appreciated. Thanks...
  6. Hey Logic X users... Anyone having issues with "select unused audio" and deleting it? It seems to also grab audio being used in the session - which never happened in previous versions. I also tried it in several projects and have the same problem. Prior to archiving a session - or when it gets too big - I always did the following: 1. "Select UNUSED" Audio 2. "Move Files" to an unused audio folder I have on my drive 3. Delete files from session (which left them in my unused audio folder I created but removed them from the project folder. Currently when I "Select Unused" it also takes many of the audio files used in the Tracks window and when I hit delete, they disappear. This is a pretty big problem when trying to manage session file size. Thanks in advance for any help!
  7. Hey David - thanks for the reply! I'd like a few more outputs than that box but may have solved it and found a used MOTU UltraLite - original FW version on Craigslist.
  8. Hi, I looked around the forum and couldn't find a direct and recent thread so I'm here with a common question... What is everyone using for live interface boxes for MainStage? I need to replace my dead MAudio FW410 and was looking at the Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 or one of the MOTU boxes. I need it for live situations; I usually rent actual kybds and tap into my MacBook Pro for many of my sounds via midi. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated and yes - cost is a factor Trying to stay under $300ish. Thanks so much for your time! Chris
  9. I did get it to work with the Marquis tool but I agree with Nathan... this is a pain in the ass and a time waster. What can be done to use the old key command? Thanks!
  10. Thanks so much for the reply but it didn't work. The search continues....
  11. Great tip... but I have a further question about this. In v9 I could create double nodes at each end of a selected area by doing this: Hold down SHIFT-CTRL-OPT and CLICK, drag the mouse over the area you want to automate, release. There would then be dbl nodes at the left and right points you selected and it was easy to just grab the automation between these points and raise or lower it. Very easy - very fast. Any idea how to do this in v10? Thanks in advance for any help!!! Chris Horvath
  12. Hmmm... I guess that's what they are. I just kept upgrading but haven't needed the XSkey in years so I assume these are stand alone versions. A couple are when Apple needed to do a fresh start and it was a new install as opposed to an eMagic style upgrade. But where is my XSkey? Good question...
  13. Hey Peter, I think yours is a pretty common dilemma and here, fwiw, are a few thoughts... If you are primarily a producer or engineer you might want to stick with ProTools because it's so common among the production crowd and commercial studios. If you are primarily a creator of music like I am (songwriter, film/tv composer, etc.) you might want to move to Logic because I do think it's geared more toward that line of work. It's definitely cheaper! My mix engineer uses PT and I use Logic. One of my main co-writers uses PT and other folks I work with use DP or CueBase. I can seamlessly interface with them and the various platforms are never an issue. Also - when I look over my engineer's shoulder as he's working in PT I have yet to see something I can't also easily do in Logic. I haven't had a crash of Logic in probably three years - and I do hear a lot of grumbling from my PT friends about upgrade costs and compatibility issues. Good luck on sorting it out...
  14. Hi Peeps, So I'm cleaning/purging my studio as one does from time to time... and I found full boxed versions of Logic 6(emagic), Logic 7, and Logic Studio 8. Anyone have a need for any of these? Let me know and I'll let them go to a good home. Thanks! Chris 310-391-1826
  15. Hey Peeps... I was wondering if anyone else has the following issue in Logic 8; When locating bars via a key command (mine happens to be "." on the 10 key pad) I don't always get the exact bar start (2 1 1 1). I often get something like 2 1 1 18 or 5 4 4 232. Odd... Any thought or help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
