  1. Right -- Mo Money Mo Money! That's why I thought I'd stay down in the bargain basement with the M1 Pro 16/16/1TB. I don't do serious video so working in Logic, a few other DAWs and some graphics apps I'm hoping it does the job. If money was no object I'd just go for the 32/32/2TB. But as we discussed earlier, according to those test videos the lesser model might be enough -- for $1000 less. Good luck with your decision!
  2. I haven't watched that video yet but I wanted to mention I ended up buying the 14" M1 Pro 16GB RAM with 16 core GPU, mainly because it was the only one in stock locally. I intend to use an external monitor so the 14" I thought would be more portable when I'm not in the studio. I had it delivered on Nov. 1, the same day Apple extended their return policy to January, so if it isn't big enough or powerful enough I have time to upgrade. It'll take me a few weeks to know how it performs. Lots of files to transfer over. I just wanted to mention that if you start out with M1 Pro 2TB 16GB RAM and you decide to upgrade to 32GB of RAM ($400 extra) if It was me I'd add another $200 to get the 24 core GPU and automatically be bumped to the M1 Max, with double the memory bandwidth and all the other video benefits. I think Apple is charging too much for RAM upgrades, but once you hit 32GB with an M1 Pro that extra $200 bump to an M1 Max 24 core GPU is an xlnt value for the money. In my case I'm hoping the 16GB 1TB does the job, however.
  3. That's what I was thinking.
  4. I hear ya des99. It would be nice to have 2 TB of fast SSD. Early on I was considering a 16” M1 Max 32/32/2TB @$3899+tax! But if an M1 Pro w/16GB of RAM works out I’m inclined to go low budget with 1TB and avoid that extra $400 altogether.
  5. Thanks aviorrok -- xlnt video. Of course he wasn't listening to Logic audio playback continuously, so no way to know if there might have been audio glitches -- but with the impressive RAM performance in his testing it looks promising. 16GB would probably be enough. Cheers!
  6. A request to those running 16GB of RAM in their new MacBook Pro -- can you please report how your machine is performing with Logic Pro RAM-wise? So far in this thread Thorny reports he's had no problem with his M1 Pro 16GB. Like the OP I'm trying to decide which MBP to purhase. I originally pre-ordered the M1 Max but it wouldn't ship until late November, so I cancelled the order. After checking out several reviews I'm thinking the M1 Pro with 16 core GPU will do the job. I can pick up an M1 Pro 16/16/1TB locally but I'm not sure if 16GB of RAM is enough. (I'd go with 32GB but that puts me into a Dec. shipping date) So the question is -- assuming the M1 Pro is good enough GPU-wise -- will 16GB of RAM do the job? Thanks if you can chime in!
