  1. I recently switched my audio interface from a Focusrite Clarett to a Arturia Audiofuse Studio. And with that, I have most of my songs I'm working on that used the Clarett for midi. For some reason, midi doesn't work the same way with Audiofuse Studio. With the Clarett, I would create an External Midi track in Logic Pro (latest version) and an Audio track, then click 'R' for each track to arm them and it would work; that's to say when I pressed a key on my hardware synth I can hear it via the Audio track and also record the midi into Logic. With Arturia Audiofuse as my audio interface, I can sometimes get it to work. But it's strange because if I create an audio track and External Midi track, the midi track might trigger my hardware synth, but if i create a Software Instrument track or click on another track and then click back onto the External Midi track, it will no longer trigger midi and I won't hear anything in the Audio track. Also, when I create an External Midi track, the track is automatically named Clarett Midi. I think I must've set this to automatically name every midi track Clarett Midi, but I don't remember how I did it. I have no idea why midi worked with the Clarett and intermittently / initially works with Audiofuse Studio (usually only works when I create the tracks, but then never again in a Logic session). Not sure if this is an Arturia issue or something else. Anyone have any idea what might be going on?
  2. I'm guessing I will have to request this feature, but I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing about the Step Sequencer. Afaik, in order to route each drum (in Drum Machine Designer for example) of the Step Sequencer, you can't do it from the Step Sequencer window. You have to go to the Arrange window and fist convert your 'Pattern Region' to a 'Midi Region' (by right clicking the region). Once you do that, you can right click again to 'Separate bu Note Pitch'. That will separate all your drums (you had in the Step Sequencer) to their own Arranger row, where you can route each like a normal track to different outputs and busses. Is this the only way to do this? I was hoping that routing each sound of the Step Sequencer would be quicker than going through that process, though it's not too cumbersome. I'm thinking the way around this is to just create Sampler or Quick Sampler track (with a single sound) in the Arranger, which would already have it's own dedicated output and bus routing option.
  3. https://www.apple.com/feedback/logic-pro.html Thanks! I'm going to make these two suggestions right now. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel with Logic.
  4. Yeah, I think I see what you're getting at. Are you suggesting to use the Step Sequencer in 16 Step mode and then after I create a 16 step pattern, expand that to 64 steps, which will automatically copy the first 16 steps three more times to fill out the full 64 steps? I was thinking about that as a workaround after I posted this. It seems like that's what Apple was intending people to do. The downside of this approach is that after you create your 16 step pattern and expand to 64, if you want to go back and make changes to the first 16 steps, you have to do that manually for all the other steps too. Once you expand from 16 step to 64 steps, there's no way to copy from the first 16 steps to 17-32, 33-48, 49-64 after that. At least the initial 16 steps can be copied out to steps 17-32, 33-48, 49-64 (before expanding to these steps). I usually like to create a 32 step pattern and then copy that to the next 32 steps and make slight alterations to the last 32 steps (keeping most of it intact). It's too bad you can, for example, select a group of steps to copy in your pattern, and then click on a step anywhere in the pattern and paste the group of copied steps beginning at the selected step. This and having a Push/Launchpad controller functionality is all I want for the Step Sequencer. I bought an new iPad so I can minimize my key commands and just focus on the other key commands that the Logic Remote doesn't have. Logic has made a great stride with this update. Now they just have a little distance to go to make this on par with Ableton's functionality. Funny thing is, I've always preferred Logic linear approach, but I've admired Ableton's integrated functionality at the software and hardware level. Do you know of the best place to make suggestions directly to Apple for feature updates?
  5. Is this possible? Let's say I have a 64 step pattern. I'm trying to find a way to find a way to copy the first 32 steps (first page) into step 33-64 (second page). Copying and pasting rows doesn't work; you can't copy a row of the first 32 steps into the same row's next 32 steps, aka steps 33-64. As far as I know... I was wondering if there was a way to select a bunch of steps, then copy those steps and be able to paste them on either the steps 1-32 page or steps 33-64 page. If anyone finds this out, please let me know. I've been searching the manual and watching videos to no avail. From what I can tell, it's not possible.
  6. That's unfortunate if there still is no possibility to toggle step sequencer steps from a hardware controller. When 10.5 was released, I immediately thought Logic Remote must have that option and display the step sequencer steps to toggle on/off. But instead it seems to have every other possible random function for the step sequencer but this. Seems very strange and makes me think that it's difficult for the programs to create this functionality. I'd glad Logic Remote has those other step sequencer functions too, because I'll be using the Step sequencer quite a bit even if I hate using the trackpad/mouse a lot. I guess I'm going to have to resort to recording my hardware sequencers into Logic and try to piece everything together or resort to using the trackpad/mouse to step sequence in Logic.
  7. I'm wondering if there are any hardware controllers, like the Novation Launchpad or Akai Fire, that can toggle the steps of the Step Sequencer on/off. I'm not sure if this is possible and was trying to find an answer online, but don't see anyone mentioning or doing it. I found out that Logic Remote doesn't have this ability. I have no idea why it doesn't because it would be a perfect pairing. I understand it would be cramped on an iPad mini, but quite nice to use on the iPad Pro. I hope Apple adds this to Logic Remote in a future update.
  8. I've thought about taking the class, but am wondering what covers. I have not read David's book or other Logic Pro books out there either. Wondering how likely it would be for someone to take this course and pass the test for certification. I've used Logic since version 7, but realize there is a lot I don't know, especially key commands. I feel like if someone told me to do something in Logic Pro X, I could do most of it (if not by just searching around), but if asked how to do it or where to go, I think I wouldn't be able to give the correct answer. I like the idea of becoming certified quickly, but I feel like this wouldn't be the case, to just take a class and be able to pass the certification test.
  9. I see. So I see there is two (maybe more that I haven't seen yet) books. One is yours and another is a newer one from 2014 called Logic Pro X: Audio and Music Production by Mark Cousins and Russ Hepworth-Sawyer. Are you familiar with that book? What's the difference your book and that one? If I bought one of these books, I would buy it in electronic form, not hardback, so it's nice that there are a few options/ways to buy it electronically. I will say that I prefer to watch Logic tutorials on Youtube. I've learned a lot from watching Youtube videos about Logic. I would actually prefer watching a bunch of videos over going through/reading the books. Is that something you may offer at some point?
  10. Yeah, it's funny because I've heard the same thing and that's what I was hoping from the beginning, that it would work right out of the box, but it didn't. And their troubleshooting helped point me in a different direction, namely that it was a Logic issue. Which lead me here and luckily Nick Batz was nice enough to work through it with me. Strange after deleting it from my AudioMidi setup a third/forth time it worked. No rhyme or reason for this it seems, but happy that Logic sees it now.
  11. I'm wondering if studying (and practicing) this Exam Preparation Guide for Logic Pro X would be enough to pass Logic Pro certification. This guide doesn't say what level this preparation is for. Does anyone know? Link is below. I would like to become certified, but don't have the money right now to fork over for in person training. I also prefer studying from a computer, rather than a physical textbook, just in case anyone wanted to recommend any resources for studying. http://training.apple.com/pdf/logicprox-exam-prep.pdf
  12. I'm dumbfounded, because the Mio decided to work. I don't know what to say besides.... It's working...and I don't know why I literally didn't do much different. So a week ago I contacted iConnectivity support and they had me go through a bunch of steps. One of them was going into the AudioMidi setup and deleting the Mio that was currently in there. (Somewhere in here I had updated to the latest OS for the Mio via the iConnectivity website) So I did that and then replugged my Mio back into my Macbook Pro and a new Mio showed up in the AudioMidi setup. So I went back into Logic as instructed and still no change. So I tried this again yesterday after you mentioned it again and the only thing I did different was just double click on the Mio to look at it's setting in a bigger window (like the pic I attached). That's it, I didn't do anything different besides that. Then I went back into Logic and for some freaky reason, Mio showed up in the Output list when creating a External Midi/Instrument track. So weird. However this worked, I want to thank you for your help and posting here. Much appreciated. I'm glad I didn't have to return it because I've heard these are solid interfaces.
  13. It's strange, but the difference between my Alesis interface that is working and the Mio that is not working is that, when creating an external midi or instrument track, the 'Output' doesn't show the Mio (like the pic I attached). If I have my Alesis plugged in, it will show up in the 'Output' here. In one of the previous pics in my first post of this thread, you can see that it just shows 'Off - 1' for example. To answer your question, midi is able to be sent out of the Mio using Midikeys, but not sent out of Logic. I'm not sure how to test AudioMidi, other than to using application like Logic or Midikeys. If I use MidiKeys, I can choose the Mio as a destination and play my external synth using my mouse by clicking on Midikey's virtual keyboard. To find out what midi data is being sent from Logic, I used Midi Monitor. Midi Monitor doesn't show any notes being sent from Logic. It only shows 2 midi commands (which is 'Pan' and 'Controller 41') when I press start or stop in Logic. So there appears to be nothing wrong with the Mio, but Logic 10.2.2 won't allow it to be used a midi interface. (My Mio has the latest OS on it btw)
  14. Ok, I'll post on the iConnectivity forum. Doing like you said in the Clicks & Ports still didn't fix it. But for anyone that wants to chime in here, I did go to the Clicks & Ports layer and made sure the Mio shows up in the Physical inputs object. The next object is the Input Notes (keyboard), so I connected the Mio to it. The Sum in the Physical Input is already connected. From here it connects to the Input view object and then the Sequencer Input. Below is my pic of what this looks like. I also posted a second pic of my Alesis usb-midi cable (USB2MIDI in the pic) that doesn't need any extra patching in the Clicks & Ports. This is with a new blank project. I don't have any midi interfaces cabled up in the Clicks & Ports, only the Sum is cabled. Strange that the Alesis USB2MIDI cable is routed correctly, but the Mio is not.
  15. I have an iConnectivity Mio Usb to midi cord and for some reason Logic X won't recognize it (and of course won't send any midi data through an external midi instrument). I have another Alesis Usb to midi 'Audiolink' cable that is automatically recognized by Logic. So what's the difference between these two... I have no idea. Any reason why one midi cable is recognized and the other isn't? I posted some screenshots showing the Mio won't show up in the 'Output' field when creating an External Midi or Instrument track. But somehow it shows up in the Inspector under 'Port'. Any idea what's going on or how to get this working? I contacted iConnectivity and we were able to find out it's a Logic issue. I downloaded an application called 'MidiKeys' (which is just a virtual musical keyboard on your computer) and this actually works sending midi notes from this application to my synth. My AudioMidi setup has the Mio showing there. I've updated my Mio to the latest OS version. What else could be the conflict with Logic? (I posted the websites below of the MidiKeys app and Mio cable.) http://www.manyetas.com/creed/midikeys.html https://www.iconnectivity.com/products/midi/mio
