  1. Zakkleifeste is absolutely right, you need a faster drive than 5400rpm for audio recording and if you are recording to your system drive...don't. Get an external firewire drive dedicated to audio and It also wouldn't hurt to boost your ram if you can. I think you'll see a big improvement in your system performance.
  2. I converted an Akai version using the EXS converter and they work fine.
  3. I don't know if ownership and permissions have anything to do with this but if they do, here's how to change them. Navigate to the file in the finder. Highlight the file and "get info" Command + i. You'll then be able to change ownership and permissions from "read only" to "read and write".
  4. Not sure about Logic 8 but in 7 you can turn backups off by going to:Logic preferences/Global/Song Handling/Auto Backup/drop down menu for options.
  5. So, something with a little societal content is "contentious". Don't question? Just obey? Sounds ominous. I'm out.
  6. Could you explain to me, privately if you must, what the issue is with this topic?
  7. I think the original post on this topic got taken down but for those who were interested in it while it was up, my wife is a choreographer in LA and she gets notices about various things going on in the stage world. This was an email she got regarding another job opportunity with the show. For those unfamiliar with the term, dressers are backstage help that work with the costumer and assist with wardrobe etc.. Names have been deleted to protect the "innocent?" And you thought musicians got paid badly!
  8. I don't use these plugs but the first thing I'd do is make sure you have the latest updates from IK's support page and I'd send them an email if you still have difficulties. If it's an issue, I'm sure they'll know about it. Good luck.
  9. I just tried to recreate what you said is happening and I see what you mean. If you start by clicking on the track name, go into record and then hit undo, the last take is removed but then all the regions remaining in the track are selected. You can either select the track and then click on the empty background of the arrange page before you record, as David suggested earlier, or you could try using Command-X or delete to erase what you want? Neither of these methods affect anything else on the current track.
  10. My guess would be that you are inadvertently hitting Command-X with all the regions of a track selected. If you're working on long pieces with lots of regions, it's a good idea to check the number of regions selected which shows in the upper left hand box on the arrange page (Logic 7) where the quantize, loop, transpose, etc. info is displayed. If you click on the track it will show how many regions there are selected, if you click on only one region in the track it will say 1 selected.
  11. Thanks for the answer and based on that, I think I'll find something else to delete!
  12. I just realized how much disk space Logic uses to store undo files on my system drive. My drive is getting a little full so I started looking for things I could move/delete etc. I found that my undo folder is taking up almost 4g of space. I assume that if I delete the contents of that folder and recall one of the old sessions that I would just have a blank undo file list. Is this correct? Please enlighten me if not and thanks.
  13. If your on a Mac the best way to keep any eye on cpu and other things is to open the activity monitor in the utilities folder and you can see everything that's happening with your system. Run you own test by adding and subtracting things in Logic and watch the numbers and how they might change.
  14. I have a Unitor 8 and an AMT and started having the same problem about a year ago. It used to work just fine and I didn't change anything in my system configuration so I don't know what started it. However, my work around is a little different and always corrects the issue. I just power down the Unitor and AMT then power them back up. I then go to Midi Preferences in Logic (7.2) and hit "reset all midi drivers". That always works for me but I wish I could correct the problem.
