  1. sorry for resurrect this old thread but even doing file/export all tracks as audio file it does the export for all tracks simultaneously but it still uses 1 cpu only, basically there is a minimal change on the time required to export each track individually, for example with ctrl-click all regions and do export as audio file (that is good in my case as i was doing multiple masters)
  2. some great news today, i've done some test with yosemite and i can say that performance are slightly better on Yosemtie than Mavericks. i pushed a project to max in yosemite and i had issues back in mavericks, it looks yosemite kernel manages better multithreading or else it's just a matter of all the other services that simply works better in yosemite (like windowserver or coreaudio). I've tried identical project and also cared about the highlighted track, and checked audio settings and multithreading configuration. This is an epocal moment, for the first time i'm happy to upgrade my OSX!!! tried also comparing logic 10.2.2 and 10.2.4 and here are no differences in terms of cpu usage I've discovered also what was causing many processor overload over the last months, they have added a multithreading option that i haven't noticed, i don't even know when they have added it, but the "playback + live" option simply doesn't work for me in most cases, I've reverted back to "playback only" that is basically the old behaviour i had on 10.0.7 for example, it works much better for my workflow (expecially when i highlight an empty track while playing). i think i'll skip el capitan directly as there was documented issues with core audio so i'll upgrade to sierra on my test partition and i'll let you know the results.. stay tuned
  3. Although I agree 500% with you re optimization and stability. OTOH, adding more features is inherently stepping into the opposite direction from the two others... Considering Windows XP full support from Microsfoft for more than 12 years, the new Mac OS yearly pace appears rather frantic! i did pure cpu test with windows, while xp still have the best performances (but it has so many other problems, starting from disk usage just to name one, that is not worth using it anymore), there has been a performance gain between 7 and 8,1. windows 10 gives basically the same performances of 8,1, the drop is minimal, something about 1%, while the gain from windows 7 is noticeable. The question is, at microsoft they added more features and they did it the right way, with minimal impact on the performances, and they even get better results with newer versions, so focusing on optimization and not only adding fancy stuff that nobody cares. Are MS programmers better than Apple's one? probably they are all on the same level, main difference is how they want them to work, investing 0% resources on optimizations and 100% on new features. In addition they kill older system because they force you to update xcode, and newer xcode automatically kills older systems, so you release an app that is automatically incompatible and you need extra work to keep it compatible with older frameworks, this is crazy to be honest and is only a matter of policy and bad decisions (at least from the user perspective)
  4. main problem moving away from 10.9.5 where i am right now is a weird bug with pro-tools, it's fixable changing resolution back and forth, upgrading is NOT an option, we're talking about several thousands euro, this is something that will never happen, i would drop avid stuff but i have some really nice tdm plug-ins that i'm still using... so i want logic updated but i don't want to lose pro-tools, i'm on a dead end, i can live with that bug if i don't lose again performances, the way i work is already pushing my mac at max, i can't get another cpu drop, i'm going to do some tests and i'll keep this post updated once i have some numbers... another way would be to purchase vienna ensemble and use my powerful brand new pc to run my heavy reaktor istances..
  5. Hi everyone, unfortunately it's time (again) to move on a newer osx version, i'm stll in mavericks and obviously i want to use the latest logic release.. Despite all the rants i say with this absurd version restriction that forces me to move on a newer osx build for apparently no reason because someday the logic/apple team decide to not support older releases (i think that is not that hard or tedious to support older frameworks too, and Mavericks release date was 22 October 2013, so based on apple's point of view an osx version become obsolete in less than 3 years). Upgrade should be nice, more features, more optimization (?), more stabiility (??). Based on my latest 10 years experience with Macs, and based on my tests (with numbers, no placebo effects), every time i've moved to a newer osx version i've lost about 5% performance in logic, so from 10.6 to 10.9 i've lost 15% performance, no joking. Now please does anyone has noticed a performance GAIN with newer osx releases ? i have to choose where to move on, and i want the most performing osx release with logic, wich one is the best performing between yosemite, elcapitan and sierra (compared to mavericks)? If nobody has done (real) tests i have to install again all the 3 and make that tests myself (another day in the trashcan), i really hope i can go directly to sierra so i'm ok for 3 years (maybe less?) until the crappy apple policy decide i have to move on again... Any word from anyone? thanks.
  6. have you checked the smart status of your hard disks ? the spinning ball could be also some hard drive issue. you should try also making a small partition and do a clean install osx+logic to see what happens it may be a sysop/software issue too.... only way if you have a strange issue is to exclude everything once by once doing several tests
  7. Choose Track > Hide Output Track. ok so it looks that stereo out (out 1-2) has special rules and a special menu option just for it, thanks for the head up. can be changed too to other outputs just in case, even if it diplays out 1-2 you can use other outs too changing the physical stereo out on logic's preferences under audio -> i/o assignments.
  8. i saw there is the manual available only for some regions on ibooks, what about the rest of the world? first time in my life i own a software and i don't have a manual, that's funny ! anyone been so smart to convert it in pdf for the poor countries??
  9. well i'm not alone at least!!! please someone that has NOT the issue can upload his preferences? maybe the issue is only with a particular preference enabled ? it's the only thing i can think about right now...
  10. i've uploaded the song with the issue. i've cleaned up everything, only 1 channel with exs24 and a channel eq on the master. -try to edit the automation on channel eq. -most of the times the exs24 stops playing. -if you wait for a new region when you are in play you will get a sustained note that never stops, even when you stop the sequencer, you need midi panic or a retrigger of the same note to send the note off midi command. -if you stop and play everything goes back to normal. basically once you get the issue on the project it will never go away, the project is broken. i was not able to recreate the issue from an empty project, need more tests. on both project i've worked on last week i imported some tracks from an earlier project, don't know if is the cause of this, need more tests. this is serious issue in my opinion. please confirm if is not working on your system too, thanks broken.logicx.zip
  11. in 10.1 it looks it's impossible to delete the output 1-2 channel from the arrange once you have done the ctrl-click "create track" from the mixer. also that channel want to stay at the bottom of the arrange, no way to move that anywhere. it's a bit different bug but still this channel has issue. this does not happen with other outputs. also if you delete the output from the old mixer in envroinment it will be automatically recreated, even if there is nothing on that out. if i remove any output1-2 out for all channels the output-12 disappears from the mixer but still it is shown on the arrange.
  12. expect a rough 5% performance drop in mavericks compared to mountain lion, just tested, 10.1 is a no go in mountain lion, even if you modify the plist there are differences on some system frameworks so when logic recalls them it crashes. i'm working on it by the way, just cloned ML to find a solution. i'm bored to upgrade OSX and become slower every time.
