I am a light Logic user, mainly guitar tracks via amp plug-ins (WOS, Bias) along with backing tracks on 2 MacBooks with latest Logic versions. Scarlett 18i8 interface. As I monitor input, not even recording, the software monitor output begins to lag. If I play a pre-recorded track, things re-sync, the lag disappears only to reappear after a minute. Eventually the track output becomes unusable with stuttering and complete breakup of the output. I have plenty of SSD available 260GB storage and lots of memory. This happens on both my 2015 and 2011 MacBook. Sometimes just sitting idle the lag will appear.
Looking at CPU monitor, I will see spontaneous spikes that settle to zero and transients in the LED VU meter.
Happens even if I create a test project with only one track and no other programs running. I look at activity monitor and core audio runs at around 12%.
Sending audio output over Zoom makes things even worse (use for guitar lessons) - completely unusable. Have to bypass Logic altogether using direct Focusrite output.
I do have a Behringer midi foot controller attached to allow start/stop/record.
This is not standard buffer latency, but things do improve if I go to an unreasonably large 512K buffer where inherent latency is clearly heard.
Garageband has similar problems.
