  1. I'm about to go to Mojave, the last OS I can run on my 2012 mini, so I can move to L10.5. My setup has been to put Logic's assorted sample folders and apple loops folder, onto an external. That comprises the Alchemy Samples, Apple Loops, EXS Factory Samples and Ultrabeat Samples folders. I left all the their associated instrument files, plugins, etc etc, on my system drive. For sanity sake I did keep all samples on my system, however once I copied them to the external, I placed those folders into a differently named ones just so Logic won't see them. As for the additional content with 10.5, I'll put those sample/loops folders back in place in the system and Logic will download to them. I'll then replace or merge (whatever the copy procedure wants to do) to update same on the external. Question then..... would I need to redo a symlink or does it automatically recognize added files? Thanks
  2. Bugs me too when it does that. You can play around with the cycle prefs. https://support.apple.com/guide/logicpro/cycle-preferences-lgcpf5b44689/mac Sometimes its also because first note events in a looped section aren't quantized to where the loop begins again so the note on message doesn't happen. Also, it dawned on me after years of this infuriatingly intermittent quirk that it could be a synth patch itself... how its been programmed to re-trigger stuff that makes its sound. It was happening to me recently and iirc I tried switching to a more basic sound with fast attack and the loop worked properly. So I'm thinking that can be an issue in and of itself and not necessarily Logic.
  3. No one responded to my thread from the other day with this issue that happened to me however I seemed to have remedied that problem by my own wits. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=144697&p=752073#p752073 Upgrading to High Sierra, (as described in that thread) I got 2 broken aliased folder. The first one, user/music/audio music apps, is the one that gave people problems and that forum member Eric Cardenas worked out a solution. (which didn't work for me. I was able to rescue the missing items with time machine though) However, I found a second broken folder, user/library/application support/logic Perhaps this simpler question I have now might garner a bit of help though. In restoring both the missing contents from both those folders, I notice that both those folders contain the exact same items. So now I'm thinking that perhaps the move to High Sierra and Logic 10.4.7 might've made the contents in that Logics folder redundant? Short story is that it seems if you had both Logic 9 And 10 on your machine, the upgrade to H.S. & 10.4.7 deleted and put in a hidden folder the contents of those folders. Now that I restored both and both have the same files, did Logic 9 perhaps use the Logic folder and installing H.S. & Logic 10.4.7 orphaned that one and replaced it with Audio Music Apps?
  4. Haven't been here in a dogs age. But looking into my problem I found this thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=133530 It might've been all well and fine except when I c&p'd what was recommended into terminal: open /.HFS+\ Private\ Directory\ Data?/ I get a 'does not exist'. How this came to be is this. I finally decided to go to High Sierra so I could get Logic's latest update. I made another partition on my Mac hdd. I cloned my Sierra system onto it then upgraded that to High Sierra to test it out. Before I did this I updated the clone of my system as well as updated time machine. Using the H.S. system, I just found this issue when I saw that all my own Logic templates were missing. Then of course I came across this broken alias thing.....the 'Audio Music Apps' and also the 'Logic' folder located in User>Library>Application Support is broken as well. Now I get from reading the thread about this issue why this thing happened to me. I also have Logic 9 (which, afaict, is the cause of this issue?) in my applications folder and that got cloned over to my H.S. test partitions well. However, this also wound up affecting Logic on my Sierra system! So I'm confounded as to why that separate H.S. system wound up 'reaching over' and making the same mess on Sierra? Questions... Why would that hidden file not exist? I suppose worse comes to worse. I delete the H.S. partition and clone my Sierra system back tp pre-eff'd up condition. I read that apparently this whole thing happened because Logic 9 is in the Application folder. So, when cloning my system back to normal and I delete Logic 9, can I go back to remaking a H.S. test partition and this issue won't repeat itself? Because of Logic 9 being there? Thanks
  5. I had found a developer discussion page at apple that was all about this issue. Sometimes I like to use enclosed drives for archiving stuff I have collected if just for the ergonomics of them. Oddly enough I tend to find that enclosed drives of a particular size are less expensive than the same size drive bare. I forgot to say.... just having a hub connected to the mini without anything plugged into it caused problems! I had to buy a bunch of new hdd's to replace ones that got trashed in a vehicle accident and recover the files over to. They're new so right now I hate to rip the enclosures open to get at the drives. However, good idea... I'll go look at OWC enclosures get a second 2 bay dock. All the drives I do use in the operation of my DAW are from OWC
  6. Haven't been here in a dogs age but I have a nasty issue that appears to more more an issue with DAW setups than casual use so I figure this'd be a good place to ask. Sierra does not like USB3 HDD's or USB3 hubs connected. I have never experience the crippling done to my system by way of merely connecting these items.... mouse won't work, audio interface won't work or connect, startup crashes, kernel crashes, software not working or behaving very oddly/badly. USB2 drives work. I've lookup up this issue and I'm not alone. Ever since Yosemite some report, it seems USB3 has s*** the bed. I just went to Sierra from Mavericks a few weeks back. Since I can't use a hub, I'm connecting keyboard/mouse, various controllers, Waves & iLok dongles in the usb ports of my displays. I should add that the external hdd's having issues are in their own cases, which especially Seagate enclosures, can be a bit problematic in the first place but these problems are different and way severe. Again, connecting a usb2 hdd doesn't cause problems. Recently I needed to boot from an external.....usb3 wouldn't let me but a usb2 drive would. The exception to all this is an OWC 2 bay usb3 dock for bare drives that I have 2 drives in there for all my audio content and sample streaming. That sucker works knock on wood. Any one else having issues like this?
  7. Thanks fellas. I should remember. 64 can contain 32. 32 can't contain 64. 3 dimensions can support 2 dimensions but not the other way round.
  8. Ok, so know we should be straight. I'm not caring whether or not a plugs 64bit capability can't be used in 32 bit mode. All I care is that they'll run properly at all. So I should be fine being that I assume all my 64 bit plugs are also 32bit capable then, right? If so, that's my answer!
  9. How come mine do? I have L9 open in 32 bit. I have an apple loop looping and all my 64 bit plugs are available, they open and appear to work I also have a 32bit synth running with 64bit audio insert plugs and its working apparently as well. That's the thing. I know 32bit plug with 64bit app was no no, but 64bit opened in 32 bit was okay Wait... I think its coming back to me. Off course I've been able to use my 64 bit synths even when using Logic 8 and 9 32 bit. It wasn't until the beginning of the year I got the new mini that I started using Logic X and Live 9 64bit. So I now know I was perfectly capable of using 64bit synths in 32bit.
  10. I can find a million places that mentions 32bit plugs and 64bit Logic but I'll be danged if I can find an answer for the reverse. I know that using 32bit plugs in 64 bit Logic is basically pointless because you'd need the 32bit bridge (which doesn't work well) but I can't recall whether or not using 64bit plugs in 32 bit Logic was perfectly fine to do. I'd like to do some projects using 32 bit synths in L9 32bit mode but wonder if using my 64bit plugs would cause any problems along the way Thanks
  11. That blows. As far as I'm concerned, Gozzi did a hit and run. IIRC, he was selling his apps even up to the very time he closed down and split... and they were being sold in Apples App Store as well. Then him and his apps all disappear just like that. You could try going over to the Redmatica forum, start a thread about what happened and ask nicely if someone might send you an installer with a serial# The board is going no longer gangbusters but there's people still posting, albeit not much. http://www.macosxaudio.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=33
  12. The best time to buy plugins is around the thanksgiving thru new years holidays it seems. I never bought any third party audio plugs till this past holiday season. Absolutely ridiculous discounts (to suck you in, lol) I got some Waves, Slate, Softube, McDSP plugs while they were going for like around 80% off. I suggest getting an account with a place called AudioDeluxe (its free) and make sure you check to have them email it their deal specials. Waves REDD is on sale right now, that'd get your feet wet as far as the old analog , in this case, 'Abbey Road Studio Console' emulation if you want the big 'name brand' thing. McDSP G Console Compact will give you both a number of compressor and EQ emulations which is less expensive than the full console but same quality with less parameters I believe. and probably one of the less expensive entry to their line. There is Slate stuff as you mention, but again, I'm looking at the current dealer prices and folks where able to buy this stuff way less than now unfortunately for you however sign up to some of these online plugin dealers because there's always some kind of sales happening for something. However, ghood news is is that there are a whole bunch of small software developers that have the same old analog EQ's, compressors, tape, console, etc emulations that people say are very good and very inexpensive. Searching Gearslutz or KVR or simply googling something like 'best inexpensive audio daw plugins' for example will list a bunch of topics on those sites Sonimus's Statson, Sweet Tone and SonEQ (that ones free) for example get high marks it seems. I think the other two are something like 40 bucks each. Oh yeah, check out IK Multimedia's T-Racks stuff. You can buy their 'Classic' suite for $80. (you just misses their sale for $40). Their Racks have all been upgraded to 64bits and its a inexpensive entry into their new Custom Shop system. Basically you buy a version of T-Racks, or even download the free version which comes with a free classic plug, and then you can start buying their other audio plugs (large selection of compressor. eq's, effects which are old 'holy grail' analog emulations) and add them to your rack as you feel like. Like the other poster said, don't knock Logics own plugs. Yeah, they're not 'sexy'....but they work. FWIW, I did a whole lot of hair pulling research this past holiday season and wound up with Waves NLS, Slate VCC, Softube Mix Bundle, McDSP G-Console as well as IK's T-Racks Classic. I would never had bought any of this stuff if they weren't practically giving them away at the time! LOL
  13. With me I have a new mac and I installed all my software from scratch. No migration. Steveo, you're probably right.... it's the Slate stuff at least. As I said, I'm not getting them loading Logics stock templates it seems, just the template I created that has VCC as well as a Native Instr. plug across something like 20 channels. So, apparently at least VCC wants to connect as its being scanned and loaded. So being I just set my firewall to block everything (except basic necessary services), that works and until I find that may cause some sort of glitch, its gonna be my solution for now.
