  1. two years and still not fixed? Looks like Logic no longer saves window positions with screen sets either? Trying to run Logic on a laptop is now extremely frustrating as plugins open with the top left of the plugin in the center of the screen, so the right hand side of most plugins is not visible on my laptop screen. I then move them more left so I can see the whole plugin, and Logic remembers these for the one track I opened. If I open another, even with the same plugins, I have to move them again. And to top it all off, when I save the project and quit, when I reopen it the next day, all instruments and plugins default back to opening in the center! This is hell!!
  2. Thank you Robin!! I tried your method and I like it better as I can better organize and control the tracks. Thank you!! The last piece of the puzzle will be figuring out how to control the mono button in the gain plugin from either my midi controller or ipad. Any advice?
  3. I’m setting up my audio monitoring in Logic to switch between speaker monitors. I have 2 sets of monitors (near and mid) and one mono mix cube. To do this, I have routed all my tracks to a “sub bus” and on this sub bus I’m using stereo sends (post fader) to the separate outputs on my audio interface for the different sets of stereo monitors. For the mono monitor, I have a gain plugin last in my chain on the sub bus that I’m using just for the mono button, which I engage before sending to the mono speaker (if I dont, I only getting the L channel and not summed mono). Then its a matter of opening the mixer and un-muting the monitors I want to hear. This seems to work ok so far, but wanted to ask if there might be a better way? I also want to know if its at all possible to use the logic remote or some other ipad app to act as a monitor controller, with the ability to mono my signal for all monitors, and quickly mute / unmute the different output channels for monitor switching & mute the master in case of a problem. Is this possible? Or should I bite the bullet and buy a monitor controller (those things are expensive!!)
  4. Did you accidentally enable "Auto Set Locators?"
  5. Sometimes I want to use the same plugins on multiple tracks and adjust them at the same time or relative to one another. Cubase has a function you can toggle which made it so on all selected tracks, whatever you did to one, it was done to the other. So for example, if I have acoustic guitar panned hard left and right on separate tracks, but feel that the compression is too much, I can open the Compressor plugin (3rd party or host) and I can adjust the threshold on one and it will change the other by the same amount. Whats really cool is even if the thresholds are set differently, the adjustment is made relative to the settings, so the individual settings I dialed in are maintained. Is there anything similar in Logic to allow for two of the same plugins on different tracks to be edited together like a group? I know you can bus tracks and add effects to the bus, but that wouldn't work in my above example as I have the compressors set individually for each guitar track (e.g. one needs a ratio of 4 while the other was played harder and needs a ratio 8, different thresholds because of different volume spikes, etc) but I now want to adjust the overall compression amount on both tracks relative to each other.
  6. I'm getting back into Logic after a long absence, and I ran into an issue that I've never experienced with any other DAW. I have all my DAW's set for Desktop 1, and run VE pro on desktop 2. When working on a project in Logic I'll have a track selected in the lower part of the arrange page, I'll switch desktops to make changes to VE pro, and when I switch back, Logic will default to the top of my arrange page, so the track I had selected / was currently working on is no longer visible. This is obviously a bit annoying. Is this a bug or is there something that can be done?
  7. Wow! I dont know why but it works now. This is a new Logic install on my system and I noticed that all the Preferences -> Additional Options were turned off so I turned them on, tried again and now it works. Must be something in there that causes this to now work? Very strange.
  8. Hello, I'm trying to import multiple audio tracks from one logic project into my current project, however it seems that using the "File -> Import -> Logic Projects" functionality is not transferring the fades & gain changes that were made on the tracks. I've gone back into the original project and tried "Normalize region parameters" since gain and fades are region parameters, but that doesn't seem to actually do anything (maybe that only works on midi?) Any idea what I'm doing wrong or is this just not possible?
  9. I'm confused by this situation. I have a project saved as a continuation of another project (mixing vs tracking), and I want to remove unused audio from THIS project (mixing), but keep it available in the previous project incase I need to grab alternate performance, etc. So I go into browser -> Project -> edit -> Select unused audio. Now from here if I choose "Delete" (from the edit menu) it seems to just remove the files from the bin and not from my HD, which is exactly what I want currently. However, I'm unsure how this will effect my future archiving procedure. When the mix is finished If I later consolidate this project onto a backup HD and choose to "copy audio files" will it only copy what is currently in my project, or will it still copy these unused audio files as well?
  10. Yup! that was it!! Thank you so much! BTW, I tried searching your forums for my question (as I would imagine its been asked before) but couldn't find anything. Perhaps I'm bad at searching, but either way hopefully this will help someone else in the future.
  11. Actually I figure out a better way to do this - just use the "midi in" button on the piano roll. Awesome!!
  12. Ok, this is probably me being stupid, but in the piano roll I cannot seem to get it to select the midi CC's when I select the notes. For example I have a keyboard solo that has pitch bend & mod wheel all over the place for expression, and I want to copy - paste part of the solo in another place, but when I select the notes in the piano roll, it is not selecting any midi CC data. I know I could chop it up in the arrange, but seeing as how I want a specific phrase its easier for me to see it in the piano roll editor. Advice? Is it possible to have logic select the midi CC's when you select notes in the piano roll?
  13. Hello, I'm currently going through a midi instrument part I wrote and recording live keyswitches for articulation switches. So I play a section, hit the key switch when I want it, then using "capture last take as recording" capture the midi trigger. However this creates a new region when I then have to glue in order to see it in the track. I thought I remembered a setting in Logic 9 where it would automatically glue regions together but I cannot seem to find it. Maybe I'm wrong? Any advice would be appreciated.
  14. Thanks for the tip, I'll for sure try that out. (very cool website - bookmarked!!) Though I do really like how easy it is to draw multiple automation shapes really quickly in DP (one of the few things I like about DP, lol) and wondering if Logic can do the same? Or am I stuck creating one shape, and then having to option drag each to create more?
