  1. Great news Rev - the clean install worked! It looks like the re-install in place just left the PPC code, even though it ran for hours. Anyway it's fixed now, thanks to you catching the Code Type PPC. Again, thanks so much! Dave
  2. Yes. I'm obviously not sure but from the Technical Note it seems to be the wrong version. OK, clean re-install here we come. Thanks for catching that!
  3. Hmm. Good point, but I don't think so. I thought maybe an AU but it doesn't even get that far. The crash is immediate. I ran GarageBand to see if it choked on any AU but it read them fine - if that means anything. For now I'm taking the Rev's advice and reading up on crash logs. Fun? Wow.
  4. Thank you for your help. that PPC line has me scratching my head too. It was originally installed on my old PPC iMac but I did a re-install yesterday from DVD. I did a fresh install over the non-working copy, so even though I hate to do it I might just clear it off completely and re-install from scratch. Yuck. Thanks again.
  5. Well when 32-bit kept failing I figured I had nothing to lose trying 64-bit, although I didn't expect it to work. Yes, I fixed the permissions and the disc checks out OK. Here's the report I get: Process: Logic Pro [3631] Path: /Applications/Logic Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/Logic Pro Identifier: com.apple.logic.pro Version: 8.0.2 (1502.22) Build Info: Logic-15022200~9 Code Type: PPC (Translated) Parent Process: launchd [143] Date/Time: 2011-05-28 13:12:16.342 -0400 OS Version: Mac OS X 10.6.7 (10J4138) Report Version: 6 Interval Since Last Report: 238 sec Crashes Since Last Report: 2 Per-App Crashes Since Last Report: 2 Anonymous UUID: CA9802BB-75A3-462A-AD4F-CEE4011E32D7 Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGTRAP) Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000 Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread Thread 0 Crashed: Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread 0 libSystem.B.dylib 0x8023950a __pthread_kill + 10 1 libSystem.B.dylib 0x80238dab pthread_kill + 95 2 com.apple.logic.pro 0xb80bfb30 0xb8000000 + 785200 3 com.apple.logic.pro 0xb80c0037 0xb8000000 + 786487 4 com.apple.logic.pro 0xb80dd8e8 0xb8000000 + 907496 5 com.apple.logic.pro 0xb8145397 spin_lock_wrapper + 1791 6 com.apple.logic.pro 0xb801ceb7 0xb8000000 + 118455 Thread 1: 0 libSystem.B.dylib 0x801430ba mach_msg_trap + 10 1 libSystem.B.dylib 0x80143827 mach_msg + 68 2 com.apple.logic.pro 0xb819440f CallPPCFunctionAtAddressInt + 206231 3 libSystem.B.dylib 0x80170819 _pthread_start + 345 4 libSystem.B.dylib 0x8017069e thread_start + 34 Thread 0 crashed with X86 Thread State (32-bit): eax: 0x00000000 ebx: 0x802fc540 ecx: 0xb7fff9ac edx: 0x8023950a edi: 0xb8211640 esi: 0x00000005 ebp: 0xb7fff9d8 esp: 0xb7fff9ac ss: 0x0000001f efl: 0x00000286 eip: 0x8023950a cs: 0x00000007 ds: 0x0000001f es: 0x0000001f fs: 0x00000000 gs: 0x00000037 cr2: 0x80239500 Binary Images: 0x80000000 - 0x8005dff7 com.apple.framework.IOKit 2.0 (???) <4389DF74> /System/Library/Frameworks/IOKit.framework/Versions/A/IOKit 0x8007d000 - 0x800e7fe7 libstdc++.6.dylib 7.9.0 (compatibility 7.0.0) <411D87F4> /usr/lib/libstdc++.6.dylib 0x80142000 - 0x802e9ff7 libSystem.B.dylib 125.2.10 (compatibility 1.0.0) /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib 0x8036b000 - 0x804e6fe7 com.apple.CoreFoundation 6.6.4 (550.42) /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreFoundation.framework/Versions/A/CoreFoundation 0x805de000 - 0x805ecfe7 libz.1.dylib 1.2.3 (compatibility 1.0.0) /usr/lib/libz.1.dylib 0x805f1000 - 0x805fdff7 libkxld.dylib ???   6. I just got a new iMac with 10.6.7 and ported over my apps with Migration Assistant. Everything works fine EXCEPT for Logic Studio 8, which crashes as soon as I start it. Same thing in both 32-bit and 64-bit. I re-installed the entire thing yesterday, but still crashes in either mode. So, does anyone know if it will even run under 10.6.7? I haven't upgraded to 9 because everything I need right now is in 8, or at least it was... Any help greatly appreciated. Dave
  7. I use SwarPlug. It's great! It works like any other plugin. Terrific sounds.
  8. I've got a Firebox, and I am very unhappy with it. The mic pre's are way too quiet, and Presonus's "great" tech support suggested that I buy ... "a good mic preamp to use with the Firebox". Since it was recommended to me - by Sweetwater - FOR its preamps, I am pretty unimpressed. If you use the +12 dB switch you will get lots of noise added to the signal. The 48V button is the phantom power switch. It lights up blue when it's on. Good luck.
  9. This seems to be an ongoing problem Here is the link to Edgar Rothermich's personal manuals: http://homepage.mac.com/edgarrothermich/Manuals.html Dave
  10. I really like Martin Sitter's macProVideo tutorials from macProVideo.com. They are indexed by topic, short, and to the point. I bought his book for Logic 7, but went to the videos for Logic 8. As a disclaimer, I do have a product sold by macProVideo, but it is Macintosh Security, nothing to do with Logic. (Martin knows a LOT more about Logic than I ever will!) Also, I was a customer of theirs long before I became one of their "authors". And I do NOT earn any money or other consideration from recommending them. I'm just a satisfied customer. They have free sample videos available, so I'd say check them out and see what you think. Dave
  11. I've been happy with the Firebox for instruments, but for some reason my mics just don't have enough volume. My main mic is an Audio-Technica AT3031 (and yes I do have the phantom power on! ). I have had to use the Firebox Control panel's 12 dB boost just to get enough volume to be adequate, but that's only at the highest volume settings. Surely I don't need a preamp before the Firebox do I? BTW, I've tested the 3031 with a couple of amps and a hardware recorder and its volume is fine.
  12. A lot of sample libraries are starting to add alternating up- and down-bows, which you need to create a realistic run from single notes. Some also shift notes slightly out of time so that they are not exactly on the beat (or sub-division), which sounds machine-like. The alternative is to find a library that has the runs that you want. I've never had much luck with these, since I always seem to want something slightly different, but your mileage may vary.
  13. Wow. Just, wow. Is anybody organizing a group buy of this? I'll bet that any of us could find 5 friends that would also join the group. And again, wow.
  14. Thanks for all the help guys! You're the best. I've just found the Amplitube demo download site (duh! ) so the guitar's coming out this afternoon. For anybody who hasn't tried the demos, they're at: http://www.amplitube.com/Main.html?Download.php
  15. Thank BetaControl. Good advice. My main amp is a Boogie, so maybe Amplitube has little to offer me? I really like the distortions in Tone Heaven too!
