  1. Hi, Stop! I wouldnt record a trumpet with a condensor. The blast of air can destroy the membrane, especially in front of the bell. use a dynamic. I use a sm57 Nigel Mk II
  2. Hi Jamie, I just went to the apple store, and it gives me the option to add SATA drives, so you should be ok. Nigel Mk II
  3. Hi, I know nothing about 10000rpm drives, but 7200 is usually fine. Yes, buffer memory is a factor. I mostly use Samsung spinpoint f1 S-ATA drives, and just get a 1 terabyte one, which has a 32mb buffer. Theyre cheap! Another factor to consider is the bridge chip in the external box. I would get one with Oxford 924 chip, I use these: http://www.macpower.com.tw/products/hdd3/pleiades/pd_scombo They also make a RAID type box, but I was advised to avoid these, due to the fan design ie the constant whirring noise. If you have clients, keep them away from the drives, actually dont let them touch anything! EDIT From reading your sig, I guess you are gonna put it in your mac pro, I think that has a SATA bus. cheers, Nigel Mk II
  4. Hi all, How is the processor hit? I was using the old transient detect/slice method, but on my 2core 1.8 ghz, 1.5 gb ram 1st gen imac, I could only really detect on 2 tracks, otherwise the processor hit slowed everything right down so much as to be unuseable. Is this still the case? Do I need a new computer to really take advantage of this? Would grouping / ungrouping still work? cheers, Nigel Mk II
  5. I would definitely say that. The new: slice at transient markers, Audio quantize and new Back and Forward by transient, where the Playhead actually moves to the next transient, are really awesome and very easy to grasp. Hi Eric and all, Has anyone tried this out with multi-track drums? does it work well/easily? How is the processor hit? I was using the old transient detect/slice method, but on my 2core 1st gen imac, I could only really detect on 2 tracks, otherwise the processor hit slowed everything right down. Is this still the case? Do I need a new computer to really take advantage of this? Would grouping / ungrouping still work? cheers, Nigel Mk II
  6. Horse!!! Long time no read! Clippitty clop cheers, Nigel Mk II
  7. Hi, The exs sampler has a sine wave, if you just open instance, without any samples loaded. Then you can just play the keyboard. cheers, Nigel Mk II
  8. Hi guys, @ Mtl yep, its not the end of the world, and you gave some sterling advice. @ Mozza. No problem ,thats why we are all here, to learn, right? The apogee is good, a step up from rme, Ive heard, never tried it meself though. What you get depends on your budget of course, but I would say you could get a cheaper usb all in one sound card, with one or two built in mic preamps, and a few line ins, maybe a DI for an gtr/keyboard, theres a lot of boxes that do that, for quite cheap. You could try that for a while, till you want to get more quality gear. I think you would see it as an big improvement over what you have now. And you could still use your pod, of course. Cant really recommend any specific models, m audio is a good place to start looking, check for solid drivers and software, a "latency free" monitor type feature would be good, though I always monitor through a mixing desk, for recording. A little cheap mixer can be handy too, for monitoring, just a few channels, though Id stear clear of Behringer. You could consider this after you get the sound card. Hope this helps. YMMV Cheers, Nigel Mk II
  9. hmm, not so sure about an adapter. i would go with the preamp box. Of course you dont have to get an RME, you could go for something cheaper with preamps, m-audio for example, but the OP said he would be getting more into beats etc. cheers, Nigel Mk II
  10. Hi Mozza, Mtl has some good suggestions, I would add though, that the podxt doesnt seem to have any mic preamp inputs, only guitar inputs. There are a few different audio signal "types", the main ones to think about: guitar signals microphone signals line signals Sounds like you are trying to put a mic signal into a guitar input, you can do this, but you might find it sounds thin and muffled. I take it you mean this when you say "down a well" rather than echo-y or reverb-y. You are trying to put a low impedance signal (mic) into a high impedance input (gtr), so maybe you do need to get another box with mic preamps on it (RME is a good option). You can keep your pod for gtr stuff. You dont say how you are getting your acoustic gtr into the pod, is it a pickup? I always mic acoustics. cheers, Nigel Mk II
  11. have you checked out paul frindles new plugin: http://www.proaudiodsp.com/products/dsm/ sounds like what you want, nest pas? check out the videos. its a pretty good deesser, too cheers, Nigel MK II
  12. Hi, Could it be you have too much stuff in your undo list? I got this problem, couldnt save, when creating hundreds of edits, when I deleted the undo history it worked again. Cheers, Nigel Mk II
  13. I just put them in a group ( the box under the output on channel), open group settings, select "region select (edit)". then any comp you select will be selected in all the group tracks. cheers, Nigel Mk II
