    Tempo Changes

Hi, What is the best way to approach an arrangement where there are tempo changes? I forget the correct theoretical term here... For example, how would you set up the project if you plan on playing live piano which features several sections which are sped up or slowed down in relation to the primary tempo? This isn't really for me (since I can't play!!) but a colleague of mine is a very accomplished pianist and I can't answer this query effectively beyond programming the tempo changes post-record.. Live keyboard / pianists throw your best practice this way...
  3. In short, just make sure your meters are not red.. Some producers (particularly in dance/club genres) aren't as OCD about this as I tend to be, but personally I adopt a zero tolerance rule for any meters exceeding 0db's on the display. Just avoid it! All the best with your music, and update this thread if it you find there is something else going on...
  4. For the record, when I swap between a finished arrangement in Logic and listen to the bounced version in iTunes or QT, there is hardly any noticeable difference - which suggests to me there may be an issue with your software settings. BUT either way: Leave the stereo output AND master faders at 0.0db - don't touch them. Make sure nothing is clipping and focus on good mixing first and foremost, then worry about overall volume once your balance/mix is good.. The file did not work and the video was your track I assume?... It is noticeably quiet but there are potentially loads of reasons for that....
  5. Yes the arrangement is the main screen.. Try what I suggested to try and gauge the difference between your track and one from iTunes - that'll give you a reference point to aim for. You shouldn't really ever need to over compensate using extreme volume increases on the master faders so you clearly need to do a bit more reading up on a few basics. If your mixing is good enough and you are leaving enough headroom for a decent stab at some DIY mastering then you should be able to get your track up to a good volume that sits well within your iTunes playlist. Also, your meters should not really be hitting the red (but you know that! ) I don't really know what the issue is - whether there is indeed a problem with the way iTunes is playing back (you say it's clipping and playing back loud in Logic) or your final master just isn't good enough?! Can you upload a demo and I'll have a listen on my system?
  6. There's no reason it should be lower - what level are you mastering to? (But check the playback settings in iTunes).. Are you limiting your song / making sure it is at it's loudest? Try importing the track that seems LOUDER than yours into your Logic arrangement - are they sounding very different in terms of volume? Andy
  7. I most certainly feel your pain there... But it's Christmas, leave it!
  8. I am using a Macbook Pro - I use CTRL+OPT+arrow keys (or click left mouse to select a section) to zoom in and/or out, Z to fit arrangement to window and ENTER to reset timeline to start of cycle area (or twice to return to the beginning of the first bar).. PS. I am using US (non numeric) key commands Does that help? Andy
  9. How can I un- [sOLVED] this really annoying problem.. Space Designer has made an enemy in me... :-/
  10. Well.. I thought it was sorted. I've just selected another textured reverb effect from the presets and it's asking for "texture 38.aiff". From this, can anyone tell me what I may be missing from my system here? And, how I may go about reinstalling whatever it is.. Very annoying. Andy
  11. Anyone else having this issue, here is all I did: The impulses were in my main hard drive (not User dir) Library/Audio/Impulse Responses so I copied them back across to the User folder. Seems to have done the trick.
  12. Strangely, any project which uses Space Designer takes at least 5 minutes load... It seems like it's trying to find the IR files at startup.. But I don't know why all of a sudden. I have changed my system recently so I guess that could have done something... No issues during installation, though. How do I reinstall Space Designer or "re-index"? I read online it may just need to be told where to point again, but even now with a project open and Space Designer present it fails to load 90% of the IR's.. Is this sounding familiar to anyone? Andy
  13. Ok so I have done this (I was looking for a check box, you have to 'add' a location). But now SD is looking for presets in Finder - like it can't find them?
  14. How do you do this - in my Snow Leopard prefs there is no way of disabling Bootcamp in Spotlight. I am having crashing problems every time I change presets in SD...
  15. Very kind, I will try a few things out and upload a project if I can't get to the bottom of it, thanks very much for your help
