  1. well.... i was playing guitar for a while. got blisters.... decided to restring it, played it for a few days. got a new hook stuck in my head. went to buy some headphones, since i don't have any speakers to record. they sucked and cost too much. so i took them back. (i don't like noise canceling headphones) ordered a real pair off the web. waiting for them to arrive hopefully tomorrow. discovered the game Portal 2, which was a mistake. hopefully i will complete it soon so i can move on. did i answer anything in that mess of letters and syllables ? or is a size 12 boot in my near future? oh, most importantly i got to say the word "archipelago". which was relevant in a conversation. that was the most important thing i did this week i guess.
  2. iPad apps are a good way to get back into things, I have Garageband/iMaschine on my iPad. When I'm out and about I can still play with music. Very handy IMHO. How about joining a small band? That would get you back into things again however; you'd some discipline around schedules/jamming sessions etc. The band thing might help with this (one-to-many vs one-to-one). Just some thoughts.... Thank you for the thoughtful advice. I'll have to check out imaschine as well. And I was typing on the iPad falling asleep last time. That's why there were so many typos. I kinda lost my amps somewhere in the last couple of years so jamming or live is out unless someone would let me borrow, or I go purchase them. And plus I don't know which instrument I would want to play or what type of music. .... Wow, I just realized imma very indecisive person, more than I thought. Or maybe I just like to do everything.... Or I could be the random thin... I think i see something shiny over there. Brb
  3. Nublu, Wow, thank you for the thoughtful advice! I've been somewhat doing dome of those things. I've been playing around with the animoog iPad app. That's been a good quick fix for creativity on the go. Also, I discovered that the new guy in my group records as well. I've heard some of his tracks, he is pretty talented. The catch is that I'm like a NIN fan, as he is heavily Christian/gospel/R and B type scene. Talk about oil and water. I think we are going to collab a little. I played bass in a John Mayer like band, so I actually could do so,e bass tracks for him. Also, he uses a mutu and what ever Sony has out now. I think acid. I'm going to show him logic this week. I told him to bring a helmet so when it bloes his mind, there will less mess to clean up. My problem with try to meet people, they always end up wanting to be more than friends. I'm actually really tired of this trend. Then they get all pissy because I like to joke around and have fun. So I keep losing people with this trend, especially the musical types. I'm not saying I'm not looking to be with someone, but I'm more picky about who I date than what guitar strings I buy. Or some other geeky music analogu that's escaping me noe.
  4. Hi ski! *waves* I see by the wonderful balloon pictures that not much has changed.
  5. i think i actually need someone in my presence to keep me motivated. all the adderall in the world won't let me watch a non-interactive teacher for more than like 15 minutes. i will take a look though, they look pretty interesting.
  6. ironically, i believe i asked you to collaborate with me a few years ago, and you passed. (i think it was you, or someone with a similar avatar. i actually remember people by their avatars and not their names apparently.) also i'm installing logic on my work laptop, so i can mix in the downtimes. hey! thats what they get for giving me 2.7ghz i7 MBP instead of a bonus.
  7. hey all! i took a two year break from doing music. i actually was a trader and have been working with video instead of audio. well... video compression and live video delivery. there isn't much room for much creativity other than "thinking outside the box" which apparently i also do. anyways, i'm looking for way to kickstart my interest in music production again. i have about 4 years of material already recorded/started. my idea was to create a ton of raw material when i was inspired (and had time) and later put on my engineer/producer hat and remix and expand from that material. my first step was to slip some of the tracks into my playlists and listen to them so they sound familiar. it seems to be working now the hooks and melodies are stuck in my head. i just can't get myself to actually sit down with logic. i think this is because its no longer part of my daily/weekly routine to just mess around for a few hours. i'm motivated at work when i'm bored, but i'm so exhausted when i get home, i just lose interest. so i was thinking maybe i should attend some sort of music recording classes? i've seen advertisements on signs and tv. they don't say logic, per se, but i'm wondering if being in an environment and actually speaking with someone that knows what i'm talking about will help motivate me and get me in the right mindset. i don't want to waste my money and time if its for people that "think" they want to record, and teach too simple. but i also don't want to sound like a pompous ass and make myself sound like i'm a pro. and these "colleges" for music seem to be a bit too involved for me, meaning i'm not interested in getting a "degree" and pay huge amounts of time/money. i'm thinking of attending David's classes in the near future. i don't know if i should wait for the next version of logic or not. i'm also not sure if to take the 1st or 2nd class. i finished his book long ago. and learned from macprovideo tutorials for logic 7-8. i don't know what i'm trying to say, i'm looking for an environment to help get my motivated again. i miss is a lot, and have literally been dreaming about it. so i know its not like it was a phase and i was over it. thanks for reading this long post, you get a free balloon animal for reading. leah
  8. Matt: what are you using as your source sound to fuel that? i think the randomness is actually the source. i was thinking of taking a drum sequence into some simple synth and speeding it up to cause the random notes triggers, but have some sort of rhythm to it. I like matt's signal chain idea as well. i love unique sounds, they always stick with me.
  9. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TIE_Fighter i love the simplicity yet unique sounds he used.
  10. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Burtt Its pretty interesting to hear the history of sound effects. i actually stumbled across this researching: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_scream and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howie_scream i always wondered why there were like only two different stock screaming sounds. and now i know why... well... not really, but at least i know the history and they have names for them. thought would share
  11. LOL! i don't know why STDs came to mind as well with those names. as for Eriksimon, thank you for taking a stab at it. i really appreciate it. Does anyone know of a simple way of automating a range of notes to reproduce the random tones? i was thinking of an arpeggiator, but logic kinda lacks in that dept. I know there are some tricks with some of the matrix (piano roll) tools to alter notes. i was wondering if there was just some quick way of setting some arpeggosor something?
  12. so no one wants to take a stab at how to create that sound? no one likes a challenge? what.... are you chicken or something?
  13. i'm adding everyone down this list. it might take a while.. sheesh! here is mine if you would like to add me before i add you http://soundcloud.com/leahbasskitten i'm slowly putting up material. i'm trying to put up only new stuff, and not have the old stuff a lot of people have heard. i would GREATLY welcome some comments, i will do the same. i just have a lot of catching up to do!! edit: now that i read the thread i will put in my 17cents... i agree there is a lot of .. um... crap there. i'm hearing a lot of very similiar material, and i try to use the comments as a reference to find something cool in the song. lots of time i am disappoint.. i do like the comments system, i think thats pretty cool. i've only been playing around for like an evening or two. i will report back when i play around a bit more. i always wanting people to be able to tell me what they like in my clips, but no one ever really took the effort to say, "at 2:33 i like the bass line". at least with this interface its kinda effortless to do something like that. so i like the way it works and hope to have people tell me what they like in my music. it will be nice to get some feed back finally.
