  1. Hi folks, looking for a replacement for my Novation SL MK II. It's been a great controller, but with Big Sur, a lot of its functionality seems to be nerfed (even the sustain pedal doesn't work anymore) unless going through some tedious workarounds. Considering Launchkey, the SL MK III, and M-Audio. Hoping for good integration with Logic and its plugins. I prefer light action rather than weighted/semi-weighted, but have flexibility on that. Thanks in advance for guidance!
  2. I've read Korg forum about it and i don't even want to try the DIY fix (alas, poor toaster, ye will no longer pop up), and i don't know if/when/where I can get it repaired at this time. I'm honestly surprised it lasted this long (17 years). Is it possible to control an 01 W completely using the environment? Would it even be worth trying to create an environment to do this (other than the experience of learning about the environment...and midi)? I imagine this could be a rather major undertaking, but certainly less risky than turning it into a large paperweight. Also, this is the only midi control i have for Logic, other than the caps lock keyboard. (grumble...guess i'll fork out for another, on top of repair cost) Thanks in advance for any advice/input/evil laughter
  3. After 2 weeks of using 10.5.7, my comp started getting slower, windows took forever to open/update, then itunes wouldn't read/import CD's, then started hanging, then wouldn't boot. Out with the Boot DVD, Disk Utility chokes on "Invalid Node Structure" and can't repair the drive. And I don't have a backup (hits head against wall many times). And I don't know what Invalid Node Structure means. Scrambling to find a solution I researched and found the unix utility "fsck_hfs -fy" (built into the operating system!!) and ran it from Terminal from boot disk. Took 3 passes and repaired the directory enough to be readable. MADE BACKUP (Whew!). Did Archive and Install. Backed up again. Zeroed internal drive, restored from backup. Updated from combo package to 10.5.6. Backed up everything again. So far, everything is working fine (had to reenter Logic Studio registration & serial #) LESSONS LEARNED: 1: Backup, backup, backup, and do it some more 2: Never install OS X from software update, only use combo package 3. Wait a while before upgrading ANYthing. 3: Macs are not invincible. 4. I was an idiot for not doing regular backups, but I'm smarter now, and humbled. If you should ever run into this "Invalid node structure" problem, check out TheXLab. Without their useful info, my work would have been lost forever from an Apple Store Wipe and Reinstall (or costly drive swap) Hope this may help anyone else that may run into this problem.
  4. buzwah, the song containing all the intrument setups you linked to above is version 7.02 (i think...been a few months since i checked). To my knowledge they have not been updated to logic 8. I tried it, because I use a Korg 01W, and have never been able to utilize the combi feature from within Logic with my current environment setup. Also haven't been able to get the bank change to work consistently either. I suspect that with more recent hardware there's fewer problems, since MIDI implementation is more consistent than it was in the early 90's. But hey, I keep trying!
  5. You shouldn't have any problems using Logc Pro on a MacBook Pro. I've been using mine for about a year, and everything works great. I do recommend backing up your files to external drive(s), because you just never know. But of course it all depends on what you intend to do with your rig.
