  1. Thank You for this Post Sir. It's most relevant and helpful. i didn't see Native Instruments Kontakt in Your list of working VSTs but i'm assuming the Kontakt Plugin will be "Natively" compatible! BTW i hope You and Your Loved ones are doing OK in these crazy times. God Bless You.
  2. I spoke with a very helpful Apple Support guy and we found a dumb solution: drag Logic from the applications folder into the trash and then download Logic from the App Store. Worked for me! Thank You so much ! Will try that now ! Was travelling for 4 days and just got back Home ... Very Kind Of You ... Thank You !!!
  3. Same here ... i have a late 2012 imac - i5 2.7 Ghz processor (4 cores) running Mojave 10.14.5 - i'm not getting the option to update in the App store either - why ??? Please do help -
  4. Yes. The other thing is that while working on a project if i want to manually make a backup of the session, the OS (10.13.6 High Sierra) does not allow me to copy and paste the session file into my backup folder while the session is running. i have to first close the project & then copy paste the current saved version of the project into the backup folder. i think they'll sort this out pretty quickly. Actually normally before updating i always keep a backup of the current Application File. The one time i didn't bother to do it one of these bad ones had to turn up. Murphy's law. ☺
  5. Thank You so much for this - i spent quite some time trying to figure out if i had set up something wrongly - Appreciate Your confirmation - will file the bug report right away - for the moment i'm resorting to making manual backups - creating a folder inside the Project folder and calling it "Safety Backups" - and copying the main session file into that every hour or so and compressing it into an archive - and then deleting the session file that i copied - it takes a couple of minutes - so i guess it's irritating but there's been worse things we've dealt with before, so ... Thanks Again. God Bless. SaiRama
  6. Hey everyone ... i've been using Logic since about 2004 ... Basically from it's version 6/7 days ... at this point i think it's a beautiful software and i really love it - and believe me i've cribbed a lot about in the past ... but at this point it's really become this great tool - So there's this bug/problem i've just encountered and i've faced nothing like it in the past many years - i'm on Logic Pro 10.4.3 - and i'm using a late 2012 21.5 inch i-mac - i'm having trouble using the revert to saved function - it's giving me an error message that goes like this : "logic pro x "project data" couldn't be moved to "000" because an item with the same name exists. To save the file, either provide a different name, or move aside or delete the existing file, and try again." i have no clue what the heck this is. i'm saving the project as a folder, not a package - i've always done that before and have used revert to saved several times without any issue. as far as assets are concerned, i've saved the project with everything except "copy movie file" and "copy apple sound library content" of course i'm not sure this is a bug at all - i updated to 10.4.3 today so i'm wondering if it's anything to do with that - i had used revert to saved last week on some project or the other without any trouble. But it might also be something wrong specific to my system ... Would really appreciate any help ... Thanks -
  7. Go to the "Record" option in the Menu on the top bar - Go to Recording Options - a new window will pop up and in the lower half you'll see the section "Overlapping Recordings" - under which You'll see MIDI and two possible settings for "Cycle Off" and "Cycle On" - You can choose the option "Overlap" for Cycle Off - and for Cycle On - it depends - obviously don't choose "Create Take Folder" because this is what i think is causing your problem - there are several options and a good idea maybe to try : "Create Tracks and Mute" - so if You're playing while the cycle mode is on, and You maybe playing over several cycles - moment you capture take on recording - it will create a bunch of tracks of whatever You played over the several cycles, one track for each cycle - i think in order of descending from the most recent to the first cycle, but it may be the other way round - starting with the first cycle going upto the last cycle You were on when You captured the take. Hope that sorts it out.
  8. I definitely agree with David ... This for me does qualify as a bug ... But anyways regardless of that, This was definitely one excellent feature ..to have two independent quantize settings in the Piano Roll & in the region inspector .. normally i keep the quantize setting in the region inspector to Off, & inside the Piano Roll to whatever default value fits the project best musically (in terms of the rhythm) ... This way i can keep a take as un quantized & if just certain passages need to be tightened up, i select those particular notes in the Piano Roll, hit Q & done ... i know one can cut the regions & quantize them separately but this is not a good work around ... So the question is, has this issue been resolved as of 10.2.2 ? Thank You for Your time ...
  9. Last year around May, I wrote a seriously long rant about Logic 8 - ( 8.0.0 ) - I got to do exactly the opposite now - they've really come up with the goods this time - the new editing features are really great - I've just finished a session, where the singer wasn't getting the time - normally I would have had to do multiple re-takes, and then sit and cut / chop the best takes, in a laborious way, to try and get the timing right - it would have taken hours, migraines etc. With the new flex tool, I managed to correct / alter the timing, as well as expression, in a breeze - it was really fantastic ! Apart from the new features, which are really a blessing, the whole DAW seems to be functioning in a far more stable way. For example, I have the habit, every time with a new project, of SAVING AS, and including all the assets, the ultrabeat samples, sampler instruments, audio files etc. - I select everything except the copy movie to project folder option, in the interest of being systematic ... as the sessions often get swapped to different workstations, and sometimes certain samples are not found etc. - with logic 8, every time you loaded a new sound, it would copy the wave forms etc, to the sampler instruments and samples folder - EVERY time you saved - so if you were running a heavy project, it would do the whole copying bit if you hit command-S and it would be really irritating - they've sorted that out now - once the software consolidates the sample into your project folder, it doesn't repeat the process again on the next save - the new feature where you get a warning when you are running out of memory, and the project is in danger of an imminent crash is really nice as well - I just feel the overall stability is SO much better - I wasn't worried about random crashes on the session today, and it was a fairly heavy one, which I did on a Macbook Pro, 2.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive. So I just wanted to take the time to say to the people who are part of the Logic team - You guys get a lot of flak and abuse ( including from me ) on TOO many occasions - often the reactions on the part of us guys here is a bit too over the top - I think you boys did a GREAT job with L9 - Thank You ! It's a pleasure to work on it, and you boys deserve a huge pat on your backs -
  10. Here's the URL : http://www.rainrecording.com/products/diablo/ Below is the same laptop, maxed out i.e. with the best available / most powerful options for CPU, RAM, Hard Disk/s, Graphics Processors etc. This is like a dream configuration for pro audio work on a laptop, with the serious computing power required for serious studio gigs : I require portability, as I travel a lot for live gigs, while simultaneously working on studio assignments, most of which are pretty intensive in terms plugins and samples used both in quantity as well as quality.. http://www.rainrecording.com/1-877-MIX-RAIN/store/product.php?productid=16240&cat=287 Now, I can run Sonar 8 Producer's Edition (with true 64 bit processing) on this machine ... and my question is : Why should struggle along with the current range of MacBook Pros with Logic 8 ? Before I get angry replies, I would like to add that I've been a regular Logic / Mac votary for close to eight years ... and that's because I truly loved Logic as a software sequencer more than Nuendo etc. and also because Apple's Operating Systems and computers were far more stable and well constructed than the Windows Operating Systems - In fact I would look on those of my fellow studio musicians who used Nuendo on PC's with pity ! It would be a difficult move for me to learn a completely new DAW software like Sonar after all these years, but honestly, at present I feel quite let down by Apple .. The Quad Core QX 9300 chip from INTEL ( which made the Quad Core laptop machine a reality ) has been on the market for some now ... And I was pretty sure that when Apple updated their MacBook Pro Laptop range in December ( the 15" ) and in January ( the 17" ), they would have an option to put together a configuration similar to the one available from Rain Recording now ( the URL's I've posted above ) for those musicians who required serious computing power for their studio projects AND portability, and who were willing to pay for it. Instead, what we got were mostly cosmetic changes, but when it got down to the nuts and bolts, Apple for me, failed to come through. Core Duo processing simply doesn't cut it any more, especially when you're opening several power hungry ( both CPU and RAM ) samples ( e.g. the Vienna Symphonic Orchestral library to name just one ), with internal plugins in addition to several audio tracks etc. It seems to me that Apple at present seems completely pre-occupied with the "look" and the cosmetics as opposed to the computing power and the nuts and bolts. Forgive me for saying all this on this forum - Like I said, I've been a dedicated Logic / Apple user for several years, and I'm not trying to be deliberately provocative - it's just that Apple always stood for being cutting edge, state of the art etc. and at present I simply do not see that as being true anymore .... Frankly I think the above configuration for a laptop from Rain Recording running Sonar 8 Producer's Edition is a far superior alternative than the current Macbook Pro 17" ( completely topped up / "souped" up ) running Logic 8 in terms of what I can achieve musically while on the road.
  11. More than logic 9, I'm eagerly awaiting the day when Apple launches quad core laptops. Dell ( or HP - I forget which ), has already come out with a quad core laptop, with RAM capabilities up-to 16 GB, and Hard Disk space up-to 1 TB. Now I presently work on a Macbook Pro, 15", 2.4 gHz, 4 GB of RAM. It's a machine that has served me well, and there have been some incredibly heavy sessions, which it has managed to run - nevertheless, a Quad Core machine is something which I think is an absolute necessity ... especially when you are dealing with scoring for movie backgrounds, and each movie file is 19 or 20 minutes long, and basically there's carpet music through it. In my particular case ( and I think this would hold true for plenty of other musicians as well ), I work a lot from home, as well as in the studio - and also, when I'm traveling on gigs, my work on the current project still HAS to continue in my down time, because of deadlines. Therefore the convenience of having a quad core laptop, which is powerful enough to handle really demanding sessions with heavy usage of VST's etc. is great. My dream laptop would be a quad core Macbook Pro, with 8 GB RAM, and at-least 512 GB of Hard Disk space. The improved graphics card on the new Macbook Pro models they released a few days ago are a good improvement and for the present, would probably help alleviate some of the ever present Logic visual bugs - The thing is, I'm quite sure they already have the technological capability for such a machine - I mean if Dell ( or HP ) can bring out such a laptop, it's difficult to imagine that Apple haven't already got this technology ( and beyond ) ready to go.
  12. A couple of bugs ( amongst many ) that I came up against while using Logic 8 on an INTEL Dual Core macbook pro, running at 2.4Ghz, with 4 GB of RAM, with OSX 10.4.11 ... In the new version of Logic, if you should split a MIDI event by the Song Playhead Position cursor, using a keyboard shortcut ( which in my case is 'Y' ), and there are overlapping MIDI notes, it no longer asks you whether it should Split, Shorten or Keep the note/s - it automatically shortens the notes if you split by Song Playhead Position using a keyboard shortcut - now ... the weird thing is, when you actually select the scissor tool, and split the event using that, then the familiar dialogue offering you the choice of splitting, shortening or keeping the note/s shows up ... which means I have to waste time selecting the scissor tool, cutting the part, and then re-selecting the pointer tool - all of which is extremely irritating and cumbersome, especially when you are working in super-fast mode. Another weird thing - every so often, on a regular basis, the Transport bar at the bottom of the arrange page, seems to " fall asleep ", so to speak - i.e. the counter that shows which bar / beat etc. the playhead cursor is on is stuck, and does not move along with the cursor - e.g. I could be on bar 233-1-1-1 whereas the Transport bar would be displaying bar 4-1-etc. ( which would be the position I had last played the song from ) - and even if I hit play, and the cursor is moving through the bars - 234, 235..... etc., the Transport Bar remains stuck on position 4-1 etc. - not budging at all, as if it's gone to sleep ... So what I do then is, I open a NEW Transport Bar by hitting Apple-7 ... and then when I play the song, the counters on the NEW Transport Bar, dutifully click over the Bar numbers that my cursor is actually on and playing through, and viola !! The default Transport Bar at the bottom of the Arrange page immediately " jerks awake ", and the Counters start moving normally ... after which I close the NEW Transport Bar Window - this happens regularly every few minutes, and again, it's really irritating ... And there are a bunch of more bugs, which I will mention in another post ... I'm really not impressed with the new Logic - Some of the innovations, like when you scroll the Playhead cursor up and down your arrange at fast speed using the mouse, and the entire arrange Arrange page zooms in horizontally - now that's a Nuendo function, and, I personally, find it a nuisance - but the thing is, unlike Nuendo, where you can turn of this function if you don't want it, you cannot turn this feature off in the New Logic - Also the layout of the Arrange Page - now some of the things are nice, like the dual channel strips in the Inspector, which saves you having to repeatedly open the Environment page ... but for instance, the Bar Ruler ... now, it's really thin, and half of it is devoted to the Locator's which define your Cycle area, should they be toggled on ... in the old Logic, should you hit any part of the top half of the Bar Ruler, which is the half dedicated to the Locators / Cycle area, no matter what part of the song you are in, that would immediately toggle the Cycle on ... Now being as the Bar Ruler is really thin, in the old Logic, I had the option of broadening the Bar Ruler by clicking and dragging with my mouse ... this would also serve to open up the Transport Bar parameters on the top left half of the Arrange page, so that I could turn off the regular Transport Bar, and save some visual space on the screen - as I work reguarly on the Laptop, space on the Arrange page devoted to the actual music writing is at a premium ... and also it would broaden the Bar Ruler, making it easier for me NOT to accidentally click on the Cycle / Locators upper half of the Bar Ruler, and click on the lower half, to move the Song Playhead Cursor to whatever part of the Song I want - now in the new Logic, it's impossible to broaden the Bar Ruler ... of course, now in the new Logic, the Cycle On / Off only get's toggled On ( or Off ) if you click on the actual Cycle area ( between the Left and Right Locators ) and not otherwise - nevertheless, I have to strain my eyes, if I want to click on the lower half of the Bar Ruler, in order to move the Song Playhead Cursor, to any given part of the Song ... often I end up clicking on the Cycle / Locators upper half of the Bar Ruler, which of course does nothing. Now here's the thing - in the upper half of the Arrange page, below the Main Menu, you have all these Icons for functions such as Splitting at Song Playhead Position, Split Between Cursors etc ... Now - I already have my keyboard shortcuts for all the functions offered in this part of the screen, and therefore these Icons at the top have no use for me .. I can split, merge etc.etc. much faster with my keyboard shortcuts, than actually using my mouse and clicking on those icons - so for me, this whole row of icons is a complete waste of space, which I would rather use for widening the Bar Ruler ... Of course, one can turn off the Icons in this row, but nevertheless, the words naming these functions still remain ... and even if you make this row thinner by turning the icons off, thereby creating more space, you still cannot widen the Bar Ruler in any case. There are many such grouses I have against Logic 8, but already this particular post is too long - I'll enumerate them later in another post ... I just feel, that the makers of the new Logic should have thought about the fact, that a number of people have been using the Logic software for years, and have faithfully stuck by it, because of a number of things, which we loved about the software that distinguished it from DAW's like Nuendo etc., and which, from the outside may not seem like huge things, but to dedicated users, are extremely important - NOW - if you are going to change THESE things around ( which to a lot of us, didn't NEED to be changed around - like the old saying, if it's not broken, don't fix it ), you better have a very good reason to change it - and then too, it was important for them to have included options which would allow us to work the old way ( to which we are used too, and see no reason to change, because there is nothing necessarily that great or revolutionary about the new ways introduced ) if we wanted ... An example of this is ... in the old Logic, holding CTRL and clicking with the left mouse button in the writing area of the arrange page automatically produced the magnifying zoom tool ... now it introduces a drop down menu, and by default, the zoom tool is produced by pressing CTRL and ALT and clicking the left mouse button ... now you could argue - big deal ... stop nitpicking and being such a wuss - assign the APPLE tool to the zoom magnifying glass, so you can still access the magnifier by pressing APPLE and left clicking, instead of having to press TWO keys ( CTRL and ALT ) and left clicking - the only difference being, that your ONE key is now APPLE as opposed to the CTRL key, and you'll get used to that - but the thing is, having used LOGIC for years and years now, I've become automatically hard wired to accessing the zoom magnifier by pressing CTRL and left clicking - and even now, keep on pressing that, by sheer force of habit, and end up getting a drop down menu - and honestly, I'm a musician concerned with making music using this software, not a computer programmer - I DON'T WANT TO SPEND TIME ACQUAINTING MYSELF WITH NEW KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS at this stage of my life unless there's a really good reason or reward for me to do so - I'd rather spend that time practicing the piano - what big deal was achieved by switching this particular shortcut around ? Why, for instance, couldn't they have left this particular shortcut they way it was, and if they WANTED to have the new drop menu thing, assigned THAT to pressing CTRL and ALT and left button clicking with the mouse ? And if they didn't do THAT, the least they could have done was, included some feature in the Preferences, that allowed me to put things back the way they were, or the way I want, if something that they have GIVEN ME, is not too my taste - it's almost like they are saying, LIKE WHAT WE'VE DONE, and if you don't , TOO BAD - TAKE A HIKE BUDDY - GET YOURSELF NUENDO OR SONAR ... I have to say, that ever since APPLE acquired the LOGIC software a few years ago from EMAGIC, the stability and ease of use, and intuitiveness of this software, which was the reason it became beloved to so many people all over the planet to start with, has steadily declined over succeeding versions and updates - and with the new Logic 8, for me, it's reached a really really low point - I find Logic 8 almost unrecognizable from the software that I've used for so many years - sure it bears the name Logic, but it doesn't really ACT much like Logic ...
