  1. That's the million-dollar question... What's the deal with L8's new mastering templates and their relationship to WB?
  2. Open Audio/MIDI Setup from the Utilities folder in the Applications folder. Make sure you're not using the Digi drivers for basic system audio.
  3. I think your Disk I/O says it all. Make sure you're using a dedicated audio drive at 7200rpm or faster.
  4. This problem was very annoying. However, since installing the latest updates, both Logic & System, it seems to be gone. I haven't had any problems with playing or bouncing.
  5. If your audio is monophonic, then you'll find how to convert the audio to MIDI on p.415 of the manual. Once you're in the manual, you'll be able to find out how to export the MIDI you've generated. If your audio is polyphonic, then sorry, it's not possible.

    Mastering

Mastering is not just making things loud. It's about many different things that require extremely accurate monitors, listening environments, and ears. If you've never worked with a real Mastering Engineer, I suggest you drop the cash and do so. You'll learn a lot from the experience.
  7. If you have specific sections that are loud and soft, record each section individually with seperate distance and gain settings. Don't forget to take notes so you can recreate the settings. Also, unless you're recording in a noisy environment, I'd worry more about overs than low signals. If you've never worked in a professional studio before, you may not know how quiet those environments can be. So, adjust your performance and engineering accordingly.
  8. To create a node on the tempo track you need to use the pencil tool from the toolbox.
  9. beej, This seems fixed in the latest update. Can you give a rundown on what all the info is and how to use it? TIA!
  10. Question 1: In the Arrange Window, select "Track Automation" from the View menu. If you also turn on "Auto Track Zoom", you'll see a drop-down menu under the track name. If not, you'll need to manually zoom each track to see this menu. From this menu you can access every parameter of every plug-in and instrument you have inserted on a particular track, and the automation overlay will update for easy editing. Question 2: Also under the View menu in the Arrange window is Global Track Components > Tempo. This will put a tempo track just below the bar ruler where you can create tempo changes like volume automation with nodes. If you expand the tempo view by clicking on the triangle on the far left of the track, you gain access to the tempo resolution as well as tempo alternatives. Also, the tempo can be edited via the Tempo List editor. Options > Tempo > Tempo list I hope this helps!
  11. I'm a professional mix engineer. If those rates are per song, I can beat them handily. If they're per album, you're not getting the attention your music needs. Peace, dc
  12. In short, the Duende rocks. It's only 32 channels, though. And I hear that there are still some unresolved issues with the UAD cards. Hit the SSL support site for more info. I don't have any UA stuff, so the Duende has been one of the best purchases I've made this year. It's way too cheap for what it is, imho.
  13. I agree. But, if I remember correctly, the Radar doesn't recognize the tempo or meter info in MTC. So, the Giant SMPTE display will help verify that the machines are actually locked, and not just playing simultaenously. MMC should be able to drive the Radar, as well. So, set the Radar to use MTC, and to send/recieve MMC. That way the Radar can drive Logic, and vice-versa.
  14. Forget about any offset. It's unnecessary. The TC in both Logic and Radar should match exactly. What's the start-time of the Radar project? That's what you need to put in the "plays at SMPTE" field. I'm not able to recreate your changing Bar Position problem. You may need to reinstall Logic, or contact Apple.
  15. Both the Logic song and the Radar project need to have the same SMPTE start time, no offset. You can set Logic's start time here: File > Song Settings > Syncronization > General I recommend not using a SMPTE View Offset. Open a separate transport window. There's a drop-down menu on it where you can customize the display. Set it to "Giant SMPTE Display" so you can easily see what Logic thinks is happening and compare it to the Radar. Also, make sure your FF's word clock is slaved to the Radar and that the sample rates in both machines match. If you haven't done so yet, have a look through Chapter 19 of the Logic manual. You need to have these checked in order to send the sync info to the Radar. It's not going to respond if it doesn't receive the instructions to do anything. It's been a couple years since I used a Radar, but there should be a setting to enable/disable external sync. Slaving the Radar to Logic may prove to be more reliable. Oh, and it's not stupidity, just inexperience. No worries.
