  1. i also have the very same problem and it hasn´t gone with logic 10.4 and it is really annoying. the named workarounds sometimes help sometimes not. i have it on a 2012 macpro aswell as on a maxed out 2017 macbook pro i7, so it shouldn´t have to do with graphicscards or somekind of outdated hardware.
  2. It does not for me (High Sierra though)! 3rd Party Instruments load for ages if ever. Omnisphere/Keyscape like 2-3 minutes Kontakt 30 sec VSL forever ... Still investigating but this is a complete showstopper.
  3. so far i´m not. i´m quite new to play but so far i wasn´t able to get much out of it because of the ram limit. until i just read your quote from east west i wasn´t even sure that it does work out of logics ram space, it always seemed a kind of rumor and nowbody seems to be sure about this. but for me it didn´t even work in logic 8. what i thought was, o.k, they´re promoting 64bit memory access but you´ll have a 64bit host do get this eventually (on a mac). now i´m surprised that it indeed worked for you on logic8. i searched many forums and didn´t find good answers a couple of weeks ago. but right now i found this intersting thread, and now i will check it out again. http://www.soundsonline-forums.com/showthread.php?t=23950 (did you deactivate diskstreaming? you should, maybe it turned back on after an update?)
  4. can somebody tell me how to make bidule respond to logics project tempo (and tempochanges) in rewire mode? usually rewired (slave) instruments automatically get tempo information from the master. (e.g. Ableton Live, Virtual Guitar 2 etc.). bidule doesn´t for any reason. i´m sure it can be done, but i don´t know how and still waiting for my bidule forum account activation. beside classic sample libraries, i´d also like omnisphere to be hosted in bidule as it is also very RAM hungry. but so far all arps or sequences run at 120 bpm and don´t care about logics tempo. any ideas would be welcome.
  5. you probably either moved logic 8 to another place or renamed it. the updater also updates waveburner, node and other stuff so that´s why it says installition completed successfully without logic beeing actually updated...
  6. as mentioned, yes, graphicsperformance with l8 has improved 1000%. on the same highload projects, where the graphics (scrolling, zooming etc) almost did not worked at all with 10.4.10 (from very slow to almost complete freeze) they work perfectly right now and at the same time i´m able to reduce the buffersettings from 1024 to 512 or lower independently of the graphics performance. i´m talking about the dual G5 here. on the G4 ibook logic isn´t even installed at all, but in all other regards it runs more smooth than before, but not that significant than the L8 performance when using leopard.
  7. for me on my G5 dual 2,5 gig with 4,5 GB ram logic8 was hardly usable because of the very slow graphics. scrolling, zooming etc wasn´t possible anymore on bigger projects that stress the cpu. leopard perfectly solved this problem probably by finally adding a way to involve the graphics memory. this was reason enough to try leopard immediately (on a cloned system). otherwise i´d have had to get hands on a new intelmac which now can wait for some more time. great thing. even the G4 ibook (1,2 GB / 768 MB Ram), i´m typing on right now, runs significantly smoother than before. for non intel users with not too old machines, leopard is a great improvement... apart from this i don´t see any kind of workflow improvements in the OS itself. just catchy eyecandy. time machine might be great though, after i put another disc to the system.
  8. this is almost unoperable. i can´t stand it. just out of curiosity, i enabled "quartz 2D extreme" through developer tools yesterday for a short test and indeed logic even was as responsive as it used to be back in the OS9 days - until i got a row of (expected) kernal panics, so i wouldn´t at all recommend this, but now there´s hope, that at least leopard will solve this problem in a way. strange though that intel-machines don´t seem to suffer at all, as afaik they don´t make use of Q2DE either. but then they of course have graphicscards with newer specs. hmm. do they want to force us buying new machines? i can´t for now. so i´m stuck with L7 at least until leopard is out.... hard to get latest spec graphiccards that would fit into a PCI X slot
  9. i just tried this. and it worked well - very well. logic told me that the slices may overlap and asked, what i´d like to do, crossfade them (with adjustable time ), convert to appleloop, or even add track(s) !! . this is cool.
  10. the dual core mini is $799. which is quite a bit more then a $400-500 node option. and so far nobody knows if an intel mac will work as a node for PPC macs - tell me if i´m wrong...

  12. just checked it. (transparent dock) helpful ... didn´t have much of a problem in logic though using keycommands and mousewheel for scrolling. however. using two 19"-monitors with the main monitor on the right, i´d love to be able to position the dock on the left site of the main (right) monitor as opposed to the far away left side of the left monitor... anyways. fwiw, my application triangles now have a new colour
  13. yes, it´s part of windows systems ...
  14. melodyne would do the job ... there are different versions for different budgets based on the same algorithms (they mainly differ in the trackcount) . any of them should do this and the "lower end" (UNO) is like 150 €/$.
  15. hm funny. subfunk, did you get my point? only ONE stereo or monofile, 0db, no fx, no eq, no level, no pan, no nothing, same hardware DOES sound the same. if it doesn´t you set up things wrong. ashermusic, as for 16 tracks, completely unprocessed but bounced together, i´m quite sure i´d hear the difference and even would go as far to tell you which is cubase/nuendo and which is logic.... in deafness cb
