  1. I don't know if this issue has been already addressed since last year. But I checked this thread and there doesn't seem to be an update. Working on pattern regions, as this thread mentions, one can easily convert the region to midi (shift alt command m). But now it is equally easy to convert a midi region back to pattern. The command to do: midi region ---> pattern, is in the same menu. In fact one can flip flop back and forth between pattern and midi region ... Mentioning this because I recently found this out. And this feature is quite fantastic.
  2. sorry this is about an old version of logic: logic 8 working with d. nahmani book (logic pro 8 and logic express 8 8)) in the section about hyper draw it is mentioned on page 192 to use the "line" tool to create a decrescendo. well, i cannot find that tool in the mouse tools section when hyper draw is on. however when hyper editor is on, the line tool appears. in truth one can create lines in hyper draw without the line tool (clicking in places creates lines) but i wonder ... with hyper draw on, is the line tool available somewhere ? thanks !
  3. i understand that for each project audio files are found in the audio bin. suppose now that my project consists solely of MIDI ("software instrument") tracks using for example FM8 and ultrabeat. so no audio files. i save the sequences, notes etc. into the logic project file, and the FM8 program settings separetely (as a .ksd file). BUT once saved, if for a new project i want to copy one of the earlier tracks, where are the files corresponding to my software instrument tracks in the original saved project (including the ultrabeat settings) ? i cannot find them ... and there is no MIDI file bin ! thanks !
  4. interesting thank you (i was reading the 0404 abridged manual), i missed that. but unfortunately since i go with the led meter on the 0404 if i raise the 0404 input level 2 things happen: - the red clip led on the 0404 goes on (no good) - the levels on logic left and right inspector strips stay more or less at -20 dB no matter what the 0404 input setting is !!!
  5. thanks for the reply, first i must mention i don't work with logic x but with logic express 8 ! i didn't see a setting for "input monitoring only for focused track" on logic express 8. still i did create a new project with record enabled monitoring track unchecked. this setting is called "independent monitoring level for record-enabled channel strips" on logic express 8. but still same problem !! ps: when i record the right channel strip meter goes up (the left one stays about -20). but once recorded the meters (both left and right channel strips) stay at -20 .... also even though i got the " metronome while playing" off i hear it weakly at playback time !!!
  6. nope, no plug in. i do have "auto input monitoring" on, as i always do. i don't see why i am losing all this "level" between the interface and my computer ...
  7. my set up is: synth-> xone 42 mixer->EMU0404usb->logic i connected the mixer "booth" output ( rated -2 dBu line level on the manual) left to jack input A and right to input B on the 0404. and set the level knobs on the 0404 so that the signal leds peak at -3 dB on the 0404. http://media.soundonsound.com/sos/jan07/images/emu2_l.jpg so on my main mixer level peaks at approx -3 dB. on the 0404 the level peaks -3 dB too, BUT on my recording-armed track in logic the inspector meter monitoring is very low, (-20dB) even though the cursor is at 0 dB, and after recording the level is of course just as low. why is that ? i do not understand how on the 0404 interface meter the level is much higher (-6 dB) than on the inspector logic channel meters ? thanks for any information !
  8. in project A i have a MIDI track using FM8. i would like to import or copy that very same track (same notes, chords etc.) with the same FM8 program (same FM8 parameters) in a new project. in other words i would like an exact copy of this track to be added to a new project. i can't seem to do that. i tried import, and export, but even though the new track in the new project look the same in piano roll, it does NOT sound the same !! so somewhere the FM8 programs parameters did not get transferred. i looked in the media area, browser, and found the original project A, but only audio files are listed. no MIDI file and no FM8 parameter file. that's really strange since these MIDI files and FM8 parameters are saved somewhere since everytime i open the original project the track sound the same. so how can i copy the track + FM8 attached parameters (ie the "complete" track) ? thanks !!
  9. indeed i am using a french macbook ... 8)
  10. just spent half an hour searching this ... with no success normally it is "/" on a normal keyboard. but on a macbook this doesn't work. anybody knows what is the command to open this dialog box on a macbook ? thanks !!
  11. i am again and again using this great book by david nahmani. i was rereading some stuff about MIDI notes, and on page 175 in the bottom, it says one can delete midi notes in piano roll by double clicking on them. but this does not work for me, when i double click it calls up the list menu ! (i am using a macbook) am i missing something ? thanks !

  13. what i mean is this : for example i'd like a note ( or several) to ramp up in volume during the duration of that note. and i'd like that for a specific note, ie be able to select which notes will do that or not.
