When exactly did you buy (or try to buy) this "crossgrade", and were then sent an academic version?
There hasn't been a "crossgrade" or "competitive upgrade" available since Emagic was bought by Apple. So if you were asking for a crossgrade 2 years ago, you were trying to buy something that didn't exist anymore.
The academic version has NEVER been upgradable. If you bought an academic version of Logic Pro 6 for $499, then you would've had to buy the full version of Logic Pro 7 when it came out, or at least another academic version at $499 if you were STILL a student at the time. If Apple is willing to refund your $199 and you can get the full version of Logic Studio for $499, what's the problem. That is how it has always been set up. No one has cheated you out of anything. Take the money and run.
And if you still qualify as a student, the academic version of Logic Studio is $250.
Since you were not a student in the first place, and yet received an academic version for $499 instead of the non-existent "crossgrade, you're ahead. You should have paid $999 for Logic Pro 7. Since you'll only be paying $499 for Logic Studio on top of the $499 you got Logic Pro 7 for, you are essentially getting the upgrade to Logic Studio for free.
Be grateful and quit whining.
