  1. I'd love to hear more about what "Support for iOS control surface apps that utilize the OSC protocol" means. I've been waiting for midipad for a while...
  2. I'm about to move into a new house (yay!) and I have two options for placing my cheap-ass home studio: one of the smaller bedrooms or the unfinished basement. The bedroom is a conventional rectangular room with an 8ft high ceiling. It's 9ft wide by 11ft long, decently thick carpet and one smallish window on the long side, opposite a small closet. The basement is a much larger space, 22ft by 24ft, with unfinished concrete floor and walls with two very small windows. The ceiling is unfinished with exposed joists 8ft off the floor, and a staircase coming down the center. There's also the expected assortment of potentially noisy devices: furnace, central vac, fan, and washer and dryer. I have some basic acoustic panels to come with me and a small budget for giving the room some treatment off the bat. Down the road my plan is to finish the basement and build a predesigned studio there, so either way this isn't going to last forever - tho a few years for sure. So: has anyone had a studio in an unfinished basement that can say how loud and interrupting the appliances can be? I assume the bigger space of the basement is a better starting point otherwise? Given a choice I'd concentrate on making the space stronger at recording since I have a few other options for mixing once in a while that I can (and do) use for final mixes. All advice is apprecaited, thanks.
  3. I was working with this project for less than 15 minutes before it crashed again. This is huge - are you sure it'll be useful? 4. If it happens again I'll post here. I haven't touched that project since... *cringe*
  5. Make that four crash reports. "... (crashed) (crashed).logic" is a funny filename.
  6. Hi all. Up until yesterday Logic 9 has been rock solid. Yesterday it had trouble redrawing, but was fine after a reboot. Today it's crashing all over the place - I've sent apple 3 crash reports in the last hour. It's driving me crazy. I'm working with Amp Designer and Pedalboard predominantly, trying to recreate the silky-smooth distortion of an old Line 6 patch (and failing, although that's another topic ) and it will randomly lock up, and crash. The good news is that it's successfully saving backups for me before dying but the bad news is I'm nearly at the end of my fuse. Any advice on how to stop this crashing - maybe someone else has seen this and can guess the cause?
  7. I"ll jump in here to say, "send me some mixing tips!". Lots of great links and advice in this thread already, but for me personally mixing is my weakspot. It takes way longer to get something I find acceptable than it should, which is to say a very very long time. I make rock (with some electronics, as everyone else seems to be doing as well), if that helps
  8. I followed the link, it says: This full free book offer is now over.... That's hilarious. As I'm not in the US I can't visit the page, so I assumed it was working
  9. I'm a fan of waterboy's work and have his youtube channel subscribed should videos show up there again. To be clear, my disappointment is not in selling videos, but in removing videos that were already on youtube. There are many examples of music having a free component, of course, like Air, Metric and Radiohead. More similar to Waterboy would be someone like Ryan Gruss (http://ryangruss.com/ for those who are missing out) who releases a few free loops monthly in addition to much larger for-pay collections. Or even David Nahmani who runs an online forum in making excellent books and workshops To learn more about business models that have a free component read Chris Anderson's recent book, Free (www.scribd.com/doc/17135767/FREE-by-Chris-Anderson for americans, available free elsewhere for the rest of us). There's also Trent Reznor's well-known forum post, for musicians at least. I was hoping the youtube videos were a starting point for something bigger, but something that would keep the youtube component. I'm only disappointed that it didn't turn out that way - I don't think any less of Waterboy (WB, dude, I love ya).
  10. That's too bad. I loved the videos, your work on them is superb. I can certainly understand how there's a value in them. That said, I give my music away and it's always a bit painful to see someone else give up on free (although usually it's bands getting signed, heh).
  11. rocknrollstar - any chance you'll share the channel strip settings you use to test the comp with mix-style effect?
  12. This is pretty hilarious, T-Pain's autotune effect for iPhone: http://iamtpain.smule.com/
  13. Ah, I was hoping it was the platinum edition, but it isn't. Lacks too many models for me to load up some of my old patches.
