  1. I was disappointed to note that Edgar Rothermich's .Mac homepage seems to be non-functional these days. - I wanted to obtain a copy of Edgar's excellent chapter on recording in 7.2, which appears not to be on my drive any more for some reason. Does anyone (Edgar ?) know where I can get a copy so that my son can swot up on techniques before I let him loose on the studio computer ? Cheers pH
  2. Thanks to all for your kind comments, and it feels good to be back on a board where there was always a sense of comradeship (no tasteless North Korea jokes, please, Ski ). - Yup, I do have the "Big C", I'm afraid, but the doctors say they can fix me because it's small and detected early on. Type 2 diabetes as well (diagnosed in 2010), and I've lost so much weight that I could consider a new career inspecting ball-point pens - from the INSIDE . . . - pH
  3. It's been a while since I was here. - 4 years in and out of hospitals have nearly driven me bonkers. I've been away from music for most of that time. I like the "new look" LPH ! Hope to have some kind of studio up and running in the next few months. (Still using 7.2.3, so a bit out of touch with what's occurring) Hope you're all well and kicking ! pH
  4. It's weird, seeing all my studio gear disappearing into crates and being nailed up for the move ! - I feel like I've had limbs amputated. - Looking forward to the new place - will post pics when all is up and kicking. Network and server get installed next Friday. May be another week or two before studio is wired up. - pH
  5. Balanced / Unbalanced A balanced cable consists of two conductors which carry a signal, the amplitude of which is (at any given instant) the voltage existing between them. They are shielded by a wrap of copper braid or foil which renders them impervious to electrical noise from any source. If any noise does permeate the shield, it affects both conductors equally and, so, the effect on the overall signal is negligible. An unbalanced cable consists of only one conductor and a wrap of copper braid or foil. Noise can affect the conductor by creating a voltage with respect to system earth (ground), which is usually the potential of the shield, thus causing the noise to appear on the signal. Get balanced cables between your interface and those monitors ! - pH
  6. David and the other mods are the coolest brand you'll find. - Try posting something on MacLife and then sit back and wait for the inevitable kick in the goolies from one of their ".. I'm so far up my own arse, I can see my teeth .." moderators .... - pH
  7. Seriously, now. - You might be able to something like Unsanity's MenuMaster haxie to do that. - pH
  8. Can't help you on the specific problem but I have just fallen madly in love with the phrase, "Husing the elp" That HAS to be song title one day ........ 8) - pH
  9. This has to be the most eclectic thread on LPH. - @Ski: See matron about those spots ........ - pH
  10. "I say, Mr Gross. One's riding breeches are simply magnificent, old boy. Does one hang out with one's chums at the jolly old motorcycle café in the evenings, or are they merely worn around the house to impress one's gardener ... ? Damn fine wheeze, what ? More port, Mr Gross, or are you about to do something unspeakable with that oboe ...... ?" - pH
  11. There are many of them, scrofani ! ! ! I was playing a place where the repeater bins were placed on shelves behind the lounge tables and kids were happily pulling banana plugs in and out of sockets just for a laugh ... Seriously. Scary. - pH
  12. Smiling, wanly, at the vocalist through the glass as she lays down the damned sweetest take of the whole session and she's practically having a bloody orgasm during the last chorus and ..... .... the track isn't armed. It's happened. More than once. And the scary f***ing thing is that it'll happen again .... - pH
  13. Oh dear, we've had this debate before. - http://www.calsport.org/images/deadfish.jpg - pH
  14. A great service, H, and so well presented. - Many LPH members will benefit from this. You're a star, Sir ! ! ! ! ! 8) - pH
