  1. Im on logic pro 8. I have my plugin chain as eq/compress/de esser...what im trying to do is experiment with the order of plugins to see how they affect my sound. Is there a simple way to change the order of plugins like to de esser/eq/ compressor? i tried to drag but that didnt work thanks logic pro 8 on i mac intel processor duet
  2. This may seem dumb, but i never really used the sample editor. However after a recroding session i noticed this really loud annoying pop that i want to erase that i cannot erase so i decided to do it on the sample editor. I am running into some problems however. It seems very complicated like the audio from the sample editor is not matching my recorded audio in my session. i try highlighting the area/region that i want to edit that has the pop/click, but it takes me to a different section of audio in the sample editor. im trying to read the manual but cant seem to get it. Basically im just trying to highlight the pop from my session and remove it in the sample editor. i cant seem to do this very basic function in logic. can anyone help? logic pro 8/ imac/ duet
  3. hey awesome guys thanks for the input. This logic pro forum is awesome very helpful answers! greatly appreciated
  4. Logic 8/duet/firebox/Imac i will try and explain this as best i could. I have a show and the drummer needs to play to a click track on stage. i figured out how to have the click track coming out of a different out put so the audience does not hear the click. The only problem is i do not want to bring my IMAC to the show for this is my lifes work on the computer and dont want to risk any damage. that being said i decided that i want to put the click track on to a cd and bring a dj mixer and dj cd player for the show that has all of my backing vocals and music, etc. So this is wat i did. I took each session in logic and bounced down to a stero file (aiff) i then opened a new session and imported the bounce as a mono track panned hard left. I then recorded a click track to go along with the bounced file (i just selected in metronone settings to click while playing and click while recording) once i recorded this i panned it hard right and then bounced down with the music as mono hard left and the click mono hard right so the drummer can hear on ly the click on his headphones, and the audience can hear the music in mono without hearing the click...this was somewhat successful however i ran into a problem: The drummer is able to hear the click by it self on one side ok and the music plays out of the other side ok, but the click is also playing with the music so the audience wil lbe able to hear the click. Did i record the click wrong? i dont want the audience to hear the click. im thinking that i need to create the click like an instrument and record an inst as the click and pan that...as an inst sound rather than just selecting click while playing in the metrononome settings, any advice ?
  5. hey all so heres the deal. i have logic 8 on a mac and the apogee duet. everythings cool as far as studio use... i have a performance on june 2nd and i was told by my bassist that i have to make a click track for the drummer and that i would have to bring my imac...i really dont want to bring my imac with me on stage, but thats another issue. Anyways, i do have the presonus firebox and because the duet doesnt have a enough outs im going to have to use the firebox so that the drummer can hear the click track separately and that the audience can't hear it (which i cannot figure out how to do yet) but the Mac doesnt seem to be recognizing the firebox at all. I was told that i dont need any drivers for it if im on a mac. Now when i hook it up the light is blue so i know that its synced properly but nothing comes out of it. Do i need to change the audio preferences in system preferences or something? i havent done this yet. any advice? i do have mainstage but i dont know how to use it and i dont have enough time to learn now, plus i dont have a portable mac. am i screwed? Do u think i can make a 4 bar click track in logic to my songs and just burn them to disk without having to bring my i mac to the show?
  6. okay, that explains it then...i was trying to reverse an mp3 that i dragged in the workspace. So ill try to convert it to real audio then as you said Thanks Logic Pro 8 / IMac/ Apogee Duet
  7. I have an insturmental track only that im working on, and trying to reverse the tail end of the track to give it a cool effect. I go to the sample editor, high light the section i want reversed and select function >Reverse...The problem is that the reverse option is grayed out. Im certain that im selecting the area in sample editor and im not sure why the reverse option is grayed out. Any ideas on if im doing something wrong here? i did this before a few weeks ago and had no problems, but for some reason its grayed thanks
  8. okay ya cool...thanks im going to just put it on a cdr...no biggie @ tomJ ya im sure 24 bit 44.1is what i record at, im not going to change the sample rate. Some people use 96 some 48...but i always prefer 44 because regardless the ME will have to sample down to 44 to fit CD standard which is 16/44 have a good weekend peace
  9. getting ready for the mastering phase. I will be sending it off in a few days. The mastering engineer said either format AIFF or WAV is fine. But im debating which format i should put my mixes in. I know they are virtually the same thing and it doesn't really matter, but what do you think would be best AIFF or WAV... Also, the .aiff or .wav's should go onto a CDR disk correct? or DVD disk? does it really matter? The only thing i really have is CDR but i know some people put their .wavs on DVD disks. Would it matter if i just put my .wavs or .aiffs on blank CDR. Is there any particular brand of CDR or it doesnt matter? I already know the formats 24 bit/ 44.1 , plenty of headroom around -3db, etc. Just curious about the above questions Thanks
  10. I need some help/advice/techniques/ or a step by step intruction on how to use a sidechain. I have never used one before but I am trying to use a sidechain on the compressor plugin for vocals only. I want to use the sidechain sort of like a de-esser/eq to control the sibilance on some of my vocals. I have been reading in forums on how to do it. But it just doesn't make sense to me on how to set this up. I am putting a compressor on a vocal...i see the sidchain option, i know i have to route it to an aux but im just totally confused on this one. I usually figure things out by trial and error but i cant seem to get this one. Can anyone help me on this?
  11. IN Logic Pro 8...my mixes sound real good except for 1 thing...The sibilance on some parts on the vocals. I went to use the de-esser plugin in logic but found that it actually sounded worse. I experiemented for hours trying to make that de-esser work , but to my ears it distorted the sound more. So im thinking what i can do. and decided to try to use that side chain (triangle) thing on the compressor...im looking at it and have no idea how to use it. From researching i read that using a side chain on the compressor is good to get rid of the sibilance, etc. I want to try this but can someone explain to me how to use the sidechain, the paramaters, what it does, and how to use it to decrease the sssss" and sibilance and make my vocals sound polished? Any advice on this is greatly appreciated. Thank you
