  1. BTW it's not an educational copy, NFR, or anything funky like that. Normal, full license of Logic, bought from the store.
  2. Not sure where to post this exactly so if I put it in the wrong place, by all means move it. Anyways: Logic Pro 7.1 for sale! Totally legit no funny stuff. Comes with the original box, all the original manuals (plus all the extra marketing stuff they put in), the activated XSKey, the original Logic 7 discs plus the new 7.1 upgrade. If you're interested, PM me with an offer or reply in this thread, I don't know which one is more appropriate. If you want an idea of the kind of amount you should be offering, have a look at what they've been sold for on eBay (there's a feature there to do that, I can't remember which). K? Cool. Suges

    10.4.4 Anyone?

yes, it´s part of windows systems ... LOVE the smart-ass comments! No but really, what you're lookin' for Ace is called "Pacifist".
  4. I mean pass validation and work.
  5. ...at M-Audio, they're offering this GForce super-hella-pack...MTron, Minimonsta, ImpOSCar, and ODDity. $450 (explosion sound) If anyone's interested, anyway. Personally, I'm gonna jump ALL over this.
  6. Battery 2 needs to be updated to version 2.1 to work in Logic 7.1.
  7. Yeah I've heard good things about that Oddity synth. Gonna check out impOSCar too since you mentioned it. Yeah I have NO love for the techy sound, I use them to sound exactly the way they were used in soul songs in the 70s and 80s.
  8. Yeah I've read all the same articles. When I tried this myself I was not able to squeeze more tracks out of the drive, all the studios I work at don't bother. I'm VERY wary of the "wisdom of audio mags"...let's not forget a lot of these mags, back in the early 90s, used to publish monthly shootouts between different brands of minidiscs. You'd get bullshit like: "While the Maxell had a deep and round bass response, we found the crisp mid-section and overall transient response of the TDK discs to be more pleasing for the ear." Finally when it had to be scientifically proven to these "experts" (what the rest of us already knew) that there was no sound quality difference between brands--and OF COURSE there wasn't, it's f$@%ing 1's and 0's, and how could "experts" not know this?--the magazines quickly got rid of their MD reviews, reassigned the experts in question to review other things, and never published any of the reader mail regarding the issue. In any case, I'm strictly interested in techniques which are quantitatively tested, not "this guy told me". You can tell I have a hard anti-expert bias, I apprenticed in studios for years and realized a lot of the knowledge is passed-down lore which is either wrong, outdated, or the result of trial-and-error instead of just actually figuring out the science behind the problem and solving it that way. Talking strictly about the technology side of course, most of the knowledge you pick up regarding how to mix, record, mic, etc, is solid gold. ANYWAYS, I propose a test! Let's see if this one is right or wrong once and for all. Let's set some parameters and run this test. I'm going to say right now: there has to be at least a FIVE track difference between journalling and not-journalling to be considered significant, anything less than that is not worth losing the benefits of journalling. I say what we do is create a project with 100 audio files running simultaneously...that's it, no plugins or effects of any kind, just audio...and make sure it's all muted. Put the project on the testing drive, press play and starting unmuting tracks one by one, see how many you can unmute before Logic starts choking. Then try again on the same drive, but unjournaled. See what the results are. NO looping though: Logic caches part of the audio files in memory, you gotta play the whole track through, gotta be at least a minute long. Let's try this.
  9. minimoog For the proper analog basses ARP 2600 For the classic leads a la Stevie Wonder Ultrafocus For basically all the classic analog sounds you'll ever need, especially analog horns. Plus it uses the UVI Engine, which is the best sounding one. Ivory Get the 1.5 upgrade. Which brings it up to par (actually exceeds) Acoustic Piano. In my opinion anyway, 'nuff people like Akoustic better. Elektrik Piano Sounds 99.5% like a real Rhodes. BFD The most realistic sounding drums. Atmosphere CPU hog but ridiculous, evolving pads. Also uses UVI. Trilogy The most realistic sounding bass. Uses UVI as well. (used to love Battery 1 (not Battery 2, doesn't sound the same) but now I love Ultrabeat) The plugins are so damn good these days I've been selling all my synths and getting softsynths instead.
  10. Thank you SubFunk for repeating everything I said in this thread, and then telling me mastering was off-topic. Are you sure YOU read the question: I did some tests recently, bouncing my virtual instruments to 16-bit audio and was shocked by the results. Logic sounds clear and crisp, but Cubase sounds fatter and closer to analog to my ears. Anyone else notice this? - Ace of Dubs ...you can see here he's saying one DOES sound better than the other, and does anyone else agree... ...thus causing a DISCUSSION (as was the intent, not a simple question-answer), where many tertiary issues can and should be brought up in support of main points. Feel free to repeat this whole post on another board when someone calls you out for having an opinion in a discussion. (No insult/offense taken.)
  11. Thanks for that extra bit of knowledge lupin. Truth say I've never heard any of these terms with the word "nut" in them, but then again I grew up in Toronto and don't travel very much. Somehow I guess that term never got here. The MicroKorg looks coooool.
  12. You know the Logic title window with the picture of the Logic icon, and at the bottom of the window it says what it's doing, such as "Checking MIDI" and "Scanning EXS Instruments" etc, what does it say just before it crashed? What's the last status message that comes up.
  13. Well that's a good explanation, I'll roll with that one. Yeah you've got to be right on that one, I see the 'in' used very rarely. Well, I'm satisfied! Rarely get mad enough that my nut gets done in, but if I ever do...!
  14. Bwaahahahahah. 'Nuff said!
  15. That reminds me of an article I read in Pro Sound News about 10 years ago. They had organized a meeting of 10 of the biggest sound engineers in the world, blind folded them and played them a recording through different digital recorders: anything from the blackface ADATs to the then $60,000 digital reel to reel. Pretty much all agreed that the blackface ADAT was the best sounding of all. Of course, when they took the blindfold off, they couldn't believe their eyes I think a lot of people simply have to validate their purchase or their decision to go one route rather than the other. That's really the truth of it. You can read these exact same discussions on EVERY pro audio board in the world, and everyone has a different opinion not only on WHAT sounds best, but HOW you should do your comparison. There can be no doubt that the phase cancellation test is final if it passes...two seperate DAW bounces cancel each other out, they're identical. Test done, no more discussion. If there's no complete cancellation, I don't know, I'm of the mind that the rest of your comparisons should be done by your ears. Really, what else matters in the world of AUDIO PRODUCTION? When I say I A/B something for comparison, I'm talking about not knowing which one is which and having someone randomly switch them back and forth for me, telling them which one I think sounds better each time, and then have THEM tell me which one I picked. That's the only way to compare using your EARS only, right? This is how I picked my audio interface, studio monitors, channel strip, etc. At the same time what I think sounds best is probably not the same as what you think. I like my mixes bright and loud, I spent 90% of my mixing time working on sparkle and breathiness. Guys in my same genre focus 100% on bass thumpiness, roundness, whatever, and could care less about the highs, as long as you can hear them. On top of that, what sounds best can vary from genre to genre. I've noticed in a lot of these rock/alternative/whatever songs, the kick drum is barely more than a click, but that mid where all the guitars are is so detailed. This affects their choice of monitors, etc. It's true at the end of the day, you spent money on a sequencer, you made your choice, and you want to feel like you're in the company of great people who made the right choice too. You'll try to convince others your particular thing is the best, better than whatever they got, they should switch, etc. That's how I got into Macs in the first place (and they were right, mostly). That's why you got so many fanboys (borderline heretics) on the official forum for whatever sequencer, shutting down everyone and spewing bile. Some poor newbie will actually uncover a legitimate bug with the app and post a nice question about it...within seconds a fanboy will answer: "YOU'RE A f$@%ing IDIOT, CUBASE HAS ABSOLUTE NO BUGS, YOU SHOULD LEARN HOW TO USE YOUR COMPUTER YOU HACK." That kind of crap. But if you've been in the game for a while, you've used everything from Pro Tools to Podium, you have access to all the programs (or own them), and you're not particularly married to any one of them, you can afford to be objective. I own a LOT of sequencers that's I've PURCHASED over the years. A lot of them sound the same, but some of them sound different. There really is no arguing this. If you argue this, you haven't done the phase cancellation test (properly) or the blind listening test (properly). Do your tests. I repeat: DO YOUR TESTS before arguing this point. Having said this, I use Logic 100% of the time. I haven't even touched any of my other apps for about a year now and I don't plan to. Because, even with the sonic differences, as I mentioned before... IT DOESN'T MATTER. ALL PROFESSIONAL MUSIC MUST BE MASTERED BEFORE BEING COMMITTED TO MEDIA. There's a whole argument about mastering that will erupt on this board sooner or later, cause it has everywhere else. WHOever or HOWever you think mastering should be done, it will make your song sound like solid gold no matter what sequencer it came from.
